Are useful bacteria colonising in these?** A: No, only change one and after two weeks change the other one, don't change the foam pads just rinse them out with aquarium water . Yes good bacteria is in the pads **Q: Do I have to remove these cartridges from the filter before using medication treatment?** A: Some treatments advise the removal of Carbon used as a filter media simply because it will absorb the treatment from the water before it can do any good. The filter should run okay to keep the water circulating without the cartridge fitted.
