Good card, good manufacturor. Whats not to like.
this is a long overdue upgrade from my last card; a GTX770, which was significantly underpowered for my system given that I also have a 4k Dell screen and a HP Omen 120Hz as the second screen! In my defence, the PC pays for itself through video editing, and GPU acceleration in that context doesn't give you much more as you upgrade (the % GPU usage is rarely much above 40% because you are limited by non GPU optimised plugins).Anyway, major step up with the 1080; I can play at 4K or 1440p for the more sedate strategy/adventure games that work better with higher detail, and 1080p at 120Hz for FPS (sidenote - 120Hz@1080p is much better than 4k if you are into FPS!).Battlefield 1, Far Cry primal and Witcher 3 are three games that I am currently really enjoying with the better graphics and framerates. The EVGA card itself is well built, has a backplate so is very sturdy, and seems to have very good cooling. One slight oddity of this card is that the fanspeed goes down to 0% on no activity. This seems ok and as per design though; less noise and on my rig (an alienware aurora desktop) the temperature on no fans is 38C, and if I force the fans to run at a reasonable amount (20%) on no load via MSI Afterburner, it goes down to 30C... so I leave it at 0% on idle. For gaming temps get to around 60-70 (fans kick in at 45C), with one game hitting 80 (Steel Divisions Normandy). Good to see that the fans actually do hit up to 100% once the heat starts to build up (some standard settings on other cards limit fan speed to around 70%)Some people have complained of a buzzing noise from the card, but I don't have this. I bought mine late 2017, so not the initial release batch; perhaps the issue is now fixed.Worth noting that I was actually holding out for a Vega card (my HP Omen has freesync which only works with Radeons), but in the end I was slightly underwhelmed by Vega and decided on the 1080 (and a 120Hz standard monitor is not to be sneezed at!). I was actually looking at the 1070 for a while earlier this year but then the crypto-currency thing went off, so the 1080 looked better. Also worth noting that the 1080 prices tend to fluctuate quite a bit on Amazon and I'd be tempted to wait until it goes under 500.I bought on a dip that saved me 55 quid, and the price went straight back up as soon as I put in the order! Its either dynamic pricing or low stocks. Either way I'd recommend you watch prices by going to the product page a few weeks before buying as whichever is causing it, it will kick in by then.Overall a very good buy, lets hope it lasts as long as the 770!

Outstanding!
The performance of the card is simply breathtaking. I'm running Elite Dangerous at the absolute max settings across three Dell U2515H panels (7680x1440px) and the frame rates are crazy. Usually I keep the Vsync on and it just sits at 60 fps and doesn't move. Take off the Vsync and the frame rate goes up. I've seen >90 fps in the station and on the ground.Tried the new Doom demo too, and in there the performance is really exceptional. Other games such as GTA 5 are pretty much pegged. Frame rates like 160+ fps. Anything older I've got is off the charts. I'm downloading stuff off Steam as fast as I can to see if there's anything that'll tax it even a little bit.I used to usually run Elite on one panel, with a video playing on VLC on another, and a browser or another game on the third panel. And there are zero issues, no lag, no delays, no sync issues. The old card used to have sound and video sync issues. The card is quiet too. Quieter than the old card. I'm seeing temps around the 60 degree area with stress testing taking it up to 75 degrees C.I've come from a GTX 650 Ti Boost which worked fine with Elite on just the one panel but did suffer a bit on planetary surfaces. No such problems now.I'm seriously considering buying another for SLI. I must be mad.One word of warning. The first card I received was not correct. It was clearly a used and ancient GTX 295. The box had all the correct stickers and seals on it. But it did have wonky printing that wasn't aligned with the shape of the box and on the back there is a window that should show you the card serial etc... If you can't see that serial on the card and on the box underneath the window send it straight back to Amazon without opening it. I had opened it because there was what turned out to be a poster over the window so I couldn't see the numbers. Someone somewhere in the supply chain is ripping off Amazon.I called Amazon immediately and they looked at the situation and straight away set up a new order for another card and sent me a label to return the one I had. The new card turned up the day after next. There was no quibbling or delays, it was all done on the phone in under 10 minutes. I went from being somewhat put out, to being a calm and happy camper. So while is was a bit of a shock to get a dodgy card in a dodgy box I cannot fault Amazon's customer service. First class. Well done Amazon.Hopefully this won't happen to you, but know that if it does you're in safe hands. DtD.

... for 2 weeks now and I have not been disappointed. Awesome card
Had this card for 2 weeks now and I have not been disappointed. Awesome card. Plays the vast majority of my games maxed at 1440p resolution and allows the 144hz to be taken of advantage of in games capable of higher refresh rates. Fans only turn on under load so no need to worry about noise (even when fans are on fully it's still hard to hear).Haven't done much OC on this card yet but guaranteed maxed settings on many top tier games at 1080p and even 1440p. 4k I can't say from first hand experience but after doing much research it's more than capable of 4k at 50 - 60 fps with the settings turned down just a little bit.Few other things to mention:-Good temperatures (honestly this card does a really good job at maintaining lower temps)-High quality, sturdy design (metallic, some lighting on the side panel, "EVGA geforce GTX 1080" no cheap look at all. Looks good on a glass panel case)-Good power efficiency for the excellent performance-Good future proof card. Should handle games maxed for a fair bit of years to come.Only problem I've had is some coil whine. It was only really prevalent when the card was being used for the first few days and was slightly annoying at some points. But seemed to have resolved itself and most importantly it doesn't affect performance or cooling.Overall I'd definitely recommend this card, especially with GPU prices no longer being massively inflated. Very happy with it
