HARRIS Diatomaceous Earth Spreader with Scoop and Adjustable Top, Also for Ice Melt, Fertilizer and Seeds (2L or 76oz)

The first shaker I received was missing the dial with the different holes. I contacted Harris letting them know and they got back to me right away and immediately sent me a new one. They sent me a whole new unit instead of just the lid. Very impressed by the customer care I got from Harris. The shaker itself is good now that I have the right lid. Use it to shake DE powder on my plants. I like how it comes with a scoop. The dial is a little hard to turn and the lid can be a little tricky to get on sometimes but overall, it works well.

This is a godsend! I used a duster last year & started this year. I have neuropathy in hands & elbow plus carpal túnel. Needless to say I don't last long w/ many things that require me to constantly squeeze. My duster started giving a hard time & I just couldn't do more than a little bit at a time. We have many animals so I use DE on our yard for fleas and and ants that tend to be an issue in summer. It's about .5 acre. This brings me to my point. I found this and it works great! Obviously simple enough. The scoop is wonderful and the large opening is so much easier to get the DE into the container rather than a tiny duster. You also have more control over the application. It just took me about 20 minutes to do my yard and get into bushes and such that my cats like to get underneath. This would've taken me an hour, at minimum, with a duster. The shaker is the way to go!

Handy for spreading ice melt on smaller areas. Works fine for the small pelletized ice melt material. It will work with rock salt, IF the salt crystals are very small in size. The holes need to be bigger in order to allow the shaker to work properly. I drilled out the holes in the lid and it works just fine and spreads evenly. With the larger holes, the top no longer closes completely. The scoop is a handy tool for filling the container. The top is adjustable, so making the holes larger would be a necessary modification and if designed/placed properly could still permit complete closure.

Bought this to help spread diatomaceous earth in and around the chicken coop. It’s easy to use and it’s durable. I’ve been using it for a couple years. And I image it could be used for lots of other stuff too, not just diatomaceous earth. It’s pretty versatile.

I’ve used DE 2-3 times a year for roaches and fire ants. Put it out when it’s going to be dry for a few days. A few roaches may make it into the house for the first few days but they’re near dead and easy to kill. For fire ants, poke some holes and get them stirred up and then sprinkle it directly on them. It may take a few applications, but it will work. I’d rather use this than poison.

This is a great shaker ... with the ability to change the holes to big amounts coming out or small. I used this the minute I got it for my diatomaceous Earth .. both around the house and in the house, as well as sizing the holes down in order to put some on my little Lhasa puppy, and it worked perfect. Also since I have a 50 lb bag of diatomaceous earth this little shaker and scoop makes it easy to get out of the bag and a place for me to store it in small amount in my kitchen to add some DE to my morning smoothies.

The size is great for me. Think of it has being about the size of a two liter bottle. It is not huge so you do need to fill it up often but it can't really be larger or it would hard to carry and use. I like the scoop for adding in sand. We have a drum with sand/salt where I live,so the scoop is ideal for refiling. It does not work for spreading though. It is easy to store which I really like. Very bright too. Easy to spot outside. The contractor that does the driveways here unfortunately uses very course sand/salt mix which are more like lumps than fine grains of sand - it is not like play sand. It does not spread as well with the top on as I had expected. It gets stuck. Normal play sand from the big box hardware stores should be fine though. Not sure about salt though. If the sand you use is very course, expect to need to remove the top when spreading. The holes in the top are adjustable and are easy to adjust. Even with the top removed, it is still mostly works to spread. I will have to find some other type of sand and try that. But I really like the size and it a vast improvement over using plastic cups.

Love this shaker once I learned the best way to use it. Shake it from side to side not front to back. Took less than 5 minutes to spread the bug killing powder on my three flower beds. Much easier than the hand made shaker my husband made and holds a lot more. The scoop is also great. Did not get much of the powder on my hands.
