EquiSal Tapeworm Test is a horse saliva test for tapeworm antibodies using the ELISA method. The test measures salivary antibody which is specific to tapeworm to diagnose a low, borderline or moderate/high result. Treatment is recommended for any borderline or moderate/high result. The EquiSal Tapeworm Test has a high accuracy. It can be relied upon to correctly identify the majority of horses with a moderate/high burden and correctly identifies all horses with pathogenic (disease causing) burdens. Current data shows approximately 70% of horses tested for tapeworm do not need treatment. Your horse should not have been wormed for tapeworm for 4 months prior to testing with EquiSal Tapeworm Test to ensure the result is representative of current tapeworm burden. If a horse has a borderline or moderate/high diagnosis, a re-test can be carried out 2-3 months after worming treatment is administered for tapeworm. Test data shows that, in most cases, substantial reduction in tapeworm-specific antibodies can be seen within weeks following treatment. It is recommended that you test your horse twice a year for tapeworm. The best time to test for tapeworm is late winter/early spring and autumn/early winter, this is considered to be the ideal time of the year to worm for tapeworm. Kit includes Saliva collection kit, instructions, delivery and return postage paid. *Please Note - Order the number of kits you need for the number of horses you have.
