Excellent and easy to use
Really impressed with how easy this is to use. We did a ton of research on knife sharpeners and finally landed on purchasing this one. I was intimidated and nervous to use it but the instructions were great and the sharpener makes it really easy to do this correctly. Also I’ve charged it once and it’s lasted weeks now on that one charger. It’s a little heavy and bulky but that is to be expected. My knifes are super sharp now and I’m totally impressed and happy with the product! Great value to keep my knives sharp.

Red Light Stays on While Plugged In.
I returned my first one because the red light stayed on when plugged in. Today I received my replacement and it does the same thing. Does not charge.

Cordless, At-Home Sharpening
As someone who enjoys being in the kitchen there is nothing quite like a good, high quality knife to upgrade your cooking experience. My current favorite knives (and by "current," I mean for the last 15-20 years) are Shun. The thinner, sharper Japanese knives have better weight and precision for me, than their German-made, high-end counterparts. And, while it may seem counterintuitive, a sharp knife, is a safe knife, as most injuries happen from either carelessness and/or slippage of a duller blade. To maintain my good knives, they're the one thing I will never, ever put in the dishwasher and it's also important to keep them sharpened. Professional sharpening is nice, if you can find it, but I've found the Chef's Choice home sharpeners do a darn good job, without having to drive to an obscure location or mail your knives out. I've long had the Chef's Choice 15 Trizor and it's done a darn good job of keeping my knives safely sharp. This new model has multiple upgrades, including being suitable for both Japanese (15 degree edge) and German or American (20 degree edge) blades. It's also cordless and rechargeable, which is a bit of a game changer in terms of storage and ease of use. You can keep this in a drawer or tucked away in a pantry, and bring out only when and where needed, without having to worry about having a plug nearby. These work by gliding your knife through the angled slots, with the machine running, 6-10 times. The edge degree is clearly marked underneath, and there are two slots each for 15 and 20, to get the right edge on each side of your knife. You draw the knife through in an even, smooth motion that doesn't take long to get the hang of, and then run it through the smoothing/polishing slots another 16-20 times (good rule of thumb is polish about three times as long as your sharpen). The whole process takes just a few minutes, and the polishing slots can also be used to hone and straighten your edge, as you would with a steel, in between sharpenings.Occasionally if you get a little off in your use of the sharpener--don't draw the blade through smoothly enough or knock it against the side--you can get a nick or bump in the edge. This can usually be fixed with an extra stroke or two through the sharpener, and some extra time in the polish slots. I'm not the most graceful or coordinated and I've still never managed to actually ruin any knife by using a home sharpener. And, other than maybe dropping it on your foot, it would be fairly difficult to injure yourself using the sharpener, as the moving mechanism is completely covered excepting the very thin slots. It's important not to over-sharpen, as it can limit the lifetime of your knife. Even my most-used knives only need to be run through the sharpener a couple times a year. A good way to check sharpness is by seeing if your blade cleanly slices a sheet of paper held in the air. This slightly more compact unit seems to work just as well as its corded model, and while somewhat lighter, still feels solid on the countertop when in use. The slots don't have the same wider plastic guards within the slots that older Chef's Choice models had, which helped guide the blade just a bit better, but it didn't take me too long to figure out this new version, and having one unit that works for both Japanese and German sharpening angles is handy.

15 degree angle sharpening.
I have a very old Chef’s Choice sharpener which still works great. However, I like that this one doesn’t have the cord which always got in the way. Now I can sharpen my Sandoku knives and bread knife. Also, it is smaller and lighter than my old one, so it can be stored in a drawer just like a manual sharpener.

Never worked for me
This is supposed to be a great device but mine did not work. I plugged it in to charge and the red light never changed to anything else. Amazon sent a replacement and literally the second one did the same thing. I tried in multiple outlets too. I don’t know if it’s a defective shipment or what, but I could not get the sharpener to work. Returned it again and will try another brand.
