Can you use this with wire?

No, it is only for use with tightly twisted wool that is usually knitted on 3 - 3.5mm needles (4ply or double knit). It is not recommended for use with anything else as it will not glide as well and may cause the mill to malfunction.

What weight of yarn can i use thus with? dk? aran?

Yes, they are the best weights - also tightly spun yarn and not loose fancy type yarns.

can i knitte a scarth

Not with this, but you can buy bigger knitting mills that knit hats/scarves etc

is the clear cylinder part removable in case of slipped stitches, or problems?

Hi, no it isn't and I agree it would be handy if it were. You will find that a crochet hook is indispensable to use with the knitting mill. Also I use an elastic band or a hair-bobble to wrap round the cylinder and i-cord to maintain tension whenever putting the mill down or taking the weights off to avoid stitches jumping off the needles. The mill is really a tiny circular knitting machine and it helps to study the structure of the stitch formation. I love mine and have used it to produce yards of i-cord.
