If you look on the underside of the mouse there is a sliding door where the battery goes, and the dongle should be with the battery inside the mouse.

How does it connect to a laptop?

It does connect to a laptop as it uses a dongle you plug into a usb port.

Unfortunately my father lost my mk520 usb dongle and the mouse but i still have the keyboard. will the keyboard work with this mouse?

Instead, do the following: Connect your new product to your existing Unifying USB receiver as explained in Knowledge Base article 17971 Store your additional Unifying USB receiver for emergency use in the storage compartment under your battery cover"

Is this comfortable for the left hand?

The mouse is moulded for right hand use so may well not be comfortable for left hand. In addition two buttons are set for right thumb use so wont be that easily used at all if lefthanded. All in all i wouldn't recommend it for lefthand use.
