A natural product that works
I began using JFM but have sensitive skin. I had slight burn after a few uses so decided to stop immediately. I looked at a few natural items and saw this brand available on Amazon. I initially used the dark brown. It didn’t work well. I was getting orange colour on my grey hairs and only lasting a couple of days. I was about to give up but thought I would try the black dye. This has worked great with no irritation. With this product, it took some practice and trial and error to get things the way I wanted. I have a relatively short beard (number 6 on my Remington beard trimmer) and I colour it every 5 days. It’s not as straight forward as chemical dyes but I have found it works just as well. The first thing to mention is that this does take longer. If you need the base then it can take up to an hour whereas the JFM only stayed on for 2 minutes. I find it best to use this around doing something else as opposed to just sitting around waiting to wash it off. The second thing to mention is that this does not work like chemical dyes. This will only colour what it is physically in contact with. Therefore, you have to make sure you cannot see any hair sticking out of the application. It has to be thick with the beard fully underneath the mixture. I find that my beard darkens immediately but continues to get darker over the next 8 hours. I don’t personally get any of the green or purple mentioned. This colour is a dark black and darker than my natural beard. There is no guarantee that the dye will work. You may need to use the base. The dye has not worked for me without the base. I have done some trial and error and I can mix my base in with the black and use it in one application. This is not how they recommend it is used but works for me and I half the time. It works better if you use the base and colour separately but I’m happy with the result and I prefer to have a few grey hairs here and there as it looks more natural. If I use separately then I can get 100% black beard. One of the great things about this compared to chemical products is that this does not colour your skin. I have no irritation at all. I previously had dry skin under my beard but using this product has meant I no longer have dry skin. It’s also worth noting that this product requires a lot less time on the beard than similar natural products which say they need to be on for anywhere between 4 hours to overnight. All in all very happy with this and I like that it is natural.

Good as idea, fail in practice
I was desperate for this to work and with my hopes up with the reviews I have been trying for three weeks now. It did not give me an allergic reaction and I love the just mix with water idea but the positives end there. After the really long twenty minutes this dries into something close to concrete. The mess it creates is monumental. Hair that doesn't lay totally flat on the skin isn't coloured. It's impossible to cover hair on the chin. After all those efforts... the hair goes green for two days. Then orange for another two days. Then it goes back to grey. It doesn't look natural it looks stupid. I will also try the dark brown before I go back to irritated skin but normal looking beard. Update: I have been trying the dark brown for a couple of weeks and I am much happier with it, less green and orange and seems to last a few more days.

Very effective!
Excellent! I’ve tried similar before after Just for M! JFM was horrible and burned me every time I used it. Also I suspect JFM and similar chemical dyes are carcinogenic so it was imperative I found a working solution. I had a few options 1) Go grey gracefully 2) Shave the beard off (I’m bald so I wouldn’t look great with that option!) the little bit of looks I did manage to rescue by growing a small neat beard many years ago would be hard to give up. So I consulted Grok and it suggested this Grizzly Mountain Dye. It made promises so I ordered and I used it today (Friday) Absolutely brilliant and I can tell already it works better than the other henna dye I tried. I didn’t bother with the base and to be honest I haven’t a clue what that’s for but it was just another step that I couldn’t be bothered with. I mixed in a small glass bowl a good heap of the powder and put in freshly boiled kettle water after letting it cool slightly first. Have that a good mix until about toothpaste consistency. I painted it on with the included brush and went and watch the snooker on TV for half an hour. This is where the magic happened. Grok told me to rinse with water only no soap no shampoo! A step I didn’t adhere to before. It wasn’t strong enough to remove all so then I got a hot face cloth and light mild soap and washed my face as you do. Then the greeny tinge got less and less. I realised previously I may have been harshly washing out the dye mixture with strong shampoos so it was great to see the green tinge left on the beard. It was pretty green and would be noticeable but I have noticed a few hours later it is starting to oxidise into a brilliant dark brown. I have to say guys, no cancer causing chemicals and a nice dark brown beard. It should oxidise further and the green tinge should fade but all in all I am absolutely delighted and I’m switching to this completely as a once a week ritual. That’s my tips as a born again henna / indigo user! I’ve picked up a few pointers so just remember don’t harshly washing with shampoo after the 30 mins, gently remove with warm water leaning over the bath and then finish with a hot face cloth and mild soap if required. Better to do it in the evening, it’s not an instant thing where you can do this and go straight to work as you will have the green tinge. I give 5 stars for this and I can now have a nice colour rather than grey without any health concerns. That really puts my mind at rest so thank you!

The only natural product my skin tolerates
I have tried many different products, but this is the only one that doesn’t give me a rash. It’s not perfect but I keep coming back to it as the only natural one that my skin can tolerate. My beard is short and well trimmed, I am a young looking 57 y/o musician and I still enjoy looking young-ish, as I feel there is ageism in the industry. I guess I will have to stop using it when I reach 60, I am just not ready yet! Here are my recommendations: - trim and shape your beard well, in advance - apply the organic base first; I leave it for 30 mins. Be very careful that the mix is not too runny or too dry, you need to add very little water each time and mix it well until you’re happy with its consistency - make sure you only cover the hair line/area, don’t go over on adjacent skin. This takes practice but it gets better the more you do it - wash it off with cold water; i found it cools your skin, hot water seems to dissolve what you have just applied - dry it off with a dark towel (it will stain a bit Although it does wash off) and apply the actual dye; I am light mediterranean, and I use dark brown or black. Leave this application for 30-40 minutes - wash off well, again with cold water. As it dries a lot you will need to be patient and splash lots of water on your beard until it’s all clean - I always dye my beard two days before any important event; this is because the following day it may look a bit green for a few hours, in my case you need around 20 hours for the colour to lose the “green looks” It is true that it turns purple after a few days! That’s when I trim my beard again, at which point it will look salt and pepper, which I don’t mind, for a couple of days. I apply the dye once a week. As I said, not perfect but definitely the only product that my skin tolerates. It’s true that the skin around it goes a bit red for an hour or two, but it doesn’t cause me any itch at all.

Great natural dye that works with some custom tweaks
I initially struggled with this beard dye and ended up buying a bag of the base and then getting frustrating by the amount of time the whole process of washing, mixing and applying base, then washing again and doing the same with the dye. It did work well but ended up looking quite flat, uniform and fake, similar to a conventional hair or beard dye. At last I think I’ve hit on a technique that works for me at least, resulting in a really natural colour, covering the grey and without too much faff. I don’t know if any of these following points are key but they are working for me and don’t seem to be highlighted in reviews or instructions ... - wash your beard with as natural and unfragranted as possible soap, but then dry the beard completely. My theory is that this allows for better absorption, but who knows ... maybe it’s completely irrelevant! - really heat up / boil the water prior to mixing with the dye powder so that the paste is still warm when you start applying it - mix up enough paste that will completely cover the beard. I was having problems with sneaky greys coming through, so really slap a load on the beard so everything is fully submerged! - against the official advice I leave the dye on for 40-45 minutes, then wash off with unscented soap. Immediately after dying the beard doesn’t actually look very impressive ... grey areas somewhat subdued but with a greenish hue, as many have mentioned. But the following morning everything looks brown and natural. Hope this helps. Don’t give up on the dye if it’s not initially giving you the results you want. I was on the verge of going back to chemical dye and happy I gave it a final chance.

Be careful what you wish for :)
There doesn’t seem to be any guaranteed outcome with this product relative to your Beard coarseness and colouring etc. I’m a 61 year old guy , fair skinned and back in the day my head hair was plentiful but fine. I’ve had the mandatory 5” centre parting for years and an almost pure white goatee. Tried JFM years ago and thought l’d end up getting a face transplant the reaction was so bad so a non chemical based product like Grizzly had great appeal. I bought the light brown which would have been closest to my original beard colour before Father Time changed all that .Very easy to use. As others have said it’s like having grass cuttings or perhaps wet spinach plastered on your face. I actually didn’t mind that as l watched TV for the recommended 30 mins. Problem for me was colour. Tried it 1st using purely the dye and it didn’t really take then l tried the base followed by the dye and beard went green. Left it 24 hrs and still green. Tried dye again , then it went red with still hint of green. Following morning l was Au Naturale as the greenish hue would not go away. You’ll see the progression in the pics. The one where lm wearing the blue jumper perhaps looks best however this was taken in good daylight at a window and almost looks natural. However when l turn back into the room and look in a mirror under artificial light it was greenish red. Fair play to the guys who make this stuff. It’s easy to apply, doesn’t irritate -and l have very sensitive skin - but l just couldn’t get rid of the greenish hue. It’s definitely worth a try as it might work for you , sadly not for me , possibly as my beard follicles were so white. 1 week later still clean shaven for 1st time in 40 years.:) Good luck

Excellent value, kind to your skin.
Tis a sad tale I have to tell. After deciding to embrace my manliness and cultivating my facial fuzz, I noticed that there was far more salt than pepper showing in my beard, if you know what I mean! After admitting that Father Christmas would have given a knowing nod my way, I decided to embrace the advancing years but not add 20 to them and tried Just for men, big mistake. My beard went from white to dark in the blink of an eye and my cat thought I was an intruder in my own home. It also caused a painful reaction to my skin after several uses. So although skeptical, I decided to try Grizzly, I mean if it's good enough for bears why not! Seemed expensive when I ordered it and the delivery took a while to arrive, but can report excellent value for money and much kinder to the skin. A little goes a long way, easy to use if not a little messy and several applications needed until the colour takes hold. Leaves the beard with grey showing but looking natural, just what I wanted and the cat no longer hides behind the sofa when I enter the room. Top tip, apply for the first time when you have time off from work and use the base colour, this will have a green tinge to it when applied, wash that off after 20-30 mins and add the additional colour afterwards in a generous amount, you need more than you think, I use a level teaspoon amount. I leave mine to dry for 30-40 mins rinsing thoroughly afterwards. Apply your chosen beard wash, oil, balm etc and you now look like part man, part Grizzly...grrrrrrr. Why sad you ask, time catches up to everyone and I hesitated to dye my beard thinking ridicule would surely follow, but I now feel happy that I have.

Grizzly beard dye black = Orange. blue. purple and Green
Just when I found the ideal break through to an allergic reaction and a fantastic beard dye how wrong was I. I used this product for 2 months solid in the denial that it was working. I bought the black beard dye and used every method of application out there after first use / 1st day black 2nd day Orange / Next day purple. The purple was the final out come. it seems to change colour as the day goes on. Its virtually boarder line surprise surprise you don't know what your going to get. Especially when your out and about and its Changning colour by the hours. The final straw came when I found my facial skin was becoming very dry and itchy and when applying the base it felt my skin started to burn. don't get me wrong this product is no where near the harsh reaction of just for men. Again this may work for some but my personal experience a definite no. I will have to go grey gracefully with a little touch up from a little eye liner. cheap and cheerful. becoming very dry and itchy. Which reminded me of the just for men allergic reaction.

Excellent stuff, read the instructions though.
It's really, really good. I like the fact that it can leave some of the thicker hair a lighter colour, so that you end up with a very natural blend, (and as no one's beard is really uniform, its a very realistic look). Best bit is that its very non-toxic, and does not stain your skin, (For God's sake, don't use just-for-men, that stuff has a moderately high probability of burning your face). (BTW, the skin stain of those other chemical dyes should lift with baby oil or moisturizer on a cotton wool ball). But, like most things, you do *need* to read the instructions. The few who complain here maybe didnt give it overnight to work, or didn't follow the process. If it doesnt seem to do much the first time or two, use the oxidiser, (the 2nd smaller packet) which kind of prepares the beard, *then* use the standard stuff. You'll get the results you want! Tips: I found I had to use the oxidising agent pack once to start off the process, (slightly different mix of the dye in a smaller pack, works really well), and leave the dye (either the oxerdiser or the main dye) in for 30 mins. (They recomend 15-30). Doing that, I got really good results. It can fade after a few days and the colour then looks like a really natural blend of light and dark. Be aware that the dye makes your beard get darker over the first 12 hours, (or overnight), so it's often best to do it before you go to bed or a friday afternoon or similar. Dont be put off if you've followed the instructions and it doesnt seem very different the first few times. You do need to give it a few (6?) hours to work at least, and you'll then likely be pleased and surprised! All of this is covered in the instructions, follow them and it should work really well! Do not mix with an alcohol/ethanol based after shave. That will change the tint of the dye. Moisturizer will generally remove colour from any dyed hair. Keep it away from the edge of your beard, or hair. Edit: I recently started leaving it in 45 mins, (while I checked my email), and generally a little longer gives you a darker shade, (that lasts a few more days (I get close to 1-2 weeks before they gray grows out underneath). The more you use it, the better it gets, and the more effective at colouring your facial hair.

Definitely recommend. I’ve tried a few other dyes before and always had allergic reactions, but this one worked great with no issues at all. I used the dark brown shade and it looks natural. Just make sure to read the instruction (it should be paste like when you apply), it takes a few hours before you see the colour change.
