Smaller than you expect
While the periscope does work, it’s rather small and flimsy, and the field of view is limited to a small spot. Was a little disappointed but it was a stocking filler so decided not to return it.

Disappointing
This is actually a 2.5 star review because the price including delivery is now £8.89p.I paid £5.90 for this periscope including delivery, and at that price it's just about ok as a stocking filler, but if I'd paid even one pound more then I'd be annoyed. Put it this way: if I'd had the chance to handle it in a shop before purchasing, I wouldn't have bought it.The sad thing is, as is so often the case, this could have been a great little item with just a bit more care put into the design/manufacture. On the plus side, the image is commendably clear, although you only get a very narrow angle of view; I guess this is due to the compact design. But that's not a big problem; where this toy lets itself down is the sloppy build quality. Its three sections telescope into each other, and it relies on friction alone to keep the sections either fully opened or closed. There's no locking mechanism of any kind, so that when the periscope is in its collapsed state it won't stay that way; the tubes just fall open and slop in and out of each other in a very loose, rattly way when it's being carried. Not the end of the world, but makes it feel unnecessarily cheap and nasty. The colour I received is a nice fire engine red, which I actually prefer to the yellow shown in the picture. If your kids are still too young to be disdainful of poor design, and if you can get this item with free postage like I did, then I guess you could do worse than to buy this, if only because there are so few options to choose from. Otherwise, you'd be better off making one yourselves as a 'make and do' project. It's not too hard, and there are several instuctionals on the net.

Like all optical instruments (glasses, binoculars, cameras etc) handling with care will improve srvice life and enjoyment
What I expected, and had hoped for. Works really well with no distortion as there are no lenses, only mirrors. Small enough to fit your (big) pocket, about the size of 2 fists when collapsed. The pieces can rotate freely, i.e. the viewing direction can be set as desired: ahead, sideways or backwards.. Bought to give me extra heights of vision as a disabled in a wheelchair, to look into cupboards, over fences etc. and it does the job. Unlike what other reviewers suggest I couldn't contact seller to specify colour, real nuisance. Luckily I got the colour I wanted. It could do with some slight magnification, but that's really asking too much at the price.Like all optical instruments (glasses etc.) handle with care, even if it is a toy; the apertures are not covered and dirt can fall into the tube and on the mirrors.

Returned for a refund
I thought it was cheaply made, smaller than I expected and not worth the money.

Poor value. Tiny area of view
A real shame. I bought this for my bed-bound Dad so he could (hopefully) see more than the narrow view in front of his bed. It is much smaller than expected (so minimal view through the scope). Too small a view to even amuse children. It’s a toy, at best.

The perfect spyglass for children to keep an eye on their assissins.
This brilliant bit of kit is both a periscope so you can see around corners as well as a seebacktroscope so that children can see assisins creeping up behind them. The unit is sturdy and compact and collapses down to a size that can be hidden incospicuously about your person - always at the ready when needed on secret spy missions and covert observations when out on patrol. You can also use it to get up close and personal with small pets such as hampsters, fish, and frogs and keep a watchful eye on cats.Five stars

Periscope
Reasonably priced good quality toy, quite small but effective. Useful viewing tool for my son: on trains, in crowds, at the theatre.
