ProMark Classic Forward 7A Drumsticks, Wood Tip, 4 Pairs

I usually buy oak, but these are perfect for my 10 year old. Hickory does have great attack. Picked myself up some too.

Maybe I'm not as strong as I think I am or maybe I naturally play lighter using these sticks, but after a gig not only did this manage to help me bring the volume level down without changing how I play, but they looked like I barely used them afterwards! I'm not a hard hitter, but I have managed to break a brand new 5A before the end of a 45 minute set (though probably just a fluke). These sticks held up through two 90 minute sets and looked like I had barely touched them. I can't explain it. The 5As I use are also Promark Hickory, but there's just something about these 7As. Don't get me wrong, any gigs where I'm allowed to be louder, I'm picking the 5As. But for playing quieter without changing my dynamics or switching to rods or brushes, these sticks are great.

I like them a lot. I'm just getting back into playing after 7 years off. I have been trying a lot of different sticks; I think I like the Vic Firth 7a a little better because it is a little lighter.

Unlike the more common acorn tip shape, these have a nice ping and cymbal bounce. For drumming without the need for heavier volume, these are wonderfully articulate. This is especially important in settings where drum volume doesn't need any more help from stick heaviness.

These sticks give a great sound and have lasted longer than others I have purchased in the past.

Love these sticks. I am a big basher on the drums. It took me years to learn to play with my wrists and fingers instead of shoulders and elbows. That being said, I went thru a lot of cymbals, and forests of sticks. I picked up the notion somewhere that smaller sticks would be less damaging to cymbals and heads, and gave 7A's a shot. I'm not gonna say I never broke one... they do break. But these ones, when they do, its more of a gradual splintery death as opposed to a sliced off tip and a sharp knife like implement stabbing a hole in your drum head. Plus, I've calmed down a bit. Only downside with these? Not a great cross-stick sound on the snare. But thats ok, I dont play that very often anyways!
