No, it does not. Brushing your properly moisturised hair a whole lot gives you waves. Products like these are made to hold your waves in place and works best when applied after a shower then tying down with a durag just before bed. You'll wake up the following morning with a full head of shiny waves that will be held in place for an entire day.

Yes, but has better hold and provides more shine, in my opinion.

Can you still brush your hair with this gel in or does it affect the waves

You brush your hair then apply the gel in the direction that you brush. It's what works for me anyway. After you apply it, it makes your hair quite gummy and difficult to brush so that's why I took that approach but the hold is very good.
