Some tips for making starter
Update: Not changing my original 5-star review of this product. Now that I've learned a lot about making sourdough starter, I see where I went wrong with this recipe. Here are 7 tips to help you if you are a beginner like me.1. Watch a lot of YouTube videos on how to make a sourdough starter. They will all have their own methods and recipes and you will be somewhat confused at first, but overall, they will all use the same language and as you watch them, you will begin to better understand the process.2. Use filtered or distilled water, not water from your faucet. If you can only use faucet water, pour some into an open container and let it sit out for at least 24 hours to let the chlorine evaporate.3. Use room temperature water assuming your kitchen is 70 to 80 degrees.4. If your recipe says on Day # your starter should be ready, assume it will not be. Sometimes you have to keep feeding it for more days. Some commenters said it took them almost two weeks of feeding before their starter was ready to use.5. Invest in a scale. Some people eyeball it, but as a beginner, weigh it out. You'll have more success.6. DO NOT throw your discard in your sink. Get rid of what you can into your trashcan. Use paper towel to help wipe off any discard. Whatever you wash off, use very hot water.7. Do you really need this jar? Not really. You can use a spaghetti jar and a rubber band to mark where your starter is, but having a nice large opening like this one is a lot easier for putting flour and water into it.Don't give up!Original Post: I haven't had any issues with the self-stick thermometer. It works well and hasn't fallen off after washing. The jar itself is nicely marked and large enough to make starter. If your spatula is broken when you get yours, just use one that you have already or buy one at Walmart. They're pretty inexpensive. I did not succeed in making a starter dough using their recipe. It only doubled in size on day three and never more after that. By day seven, same amount. Threw it out. Overall, this is a great buy however you may want to look for another recipe.

Works great.
I'm a beginner when it comes to sour dough starters, but this jar seams to have all you need to keep your starter feed and happy, whether you keep it in the fridge or on the counter. I love the elastic band that helps keep track of day and time I last fed it. The shape of the jar is convenient, the wide opening allows me to easily fit my hand into it for cleaning.

Great starter yeast jar
The wide mouth of the jar makes it much easier to feed and the band to keep track of time and day last fed means no more forgetting.

Review and Question
I purchased this item in January 2024. My question is how can I get a replacement lid? My lid is metal and impossible to clean properly. How do I get a plastic one which is indicated as coming with this set? The jar and scraper are perfect. Love everything about this and it works perfectly, except for the lid. You should include 2 jar lids with this product.

Easy and convenient!
I love how easy this is to use...the stick on temperature strip is very handy as my house is different Temps from room to room, so the convenience of knowing where my starter will thrive is wonderful. This is worth the investment for sure!

You need it more than you think you do!
I was making sourdough starter in mason jars, using dry erase markers to mark the starting point, using the scales to make sure I got the right amounts, but I was finding it wasn't growing (not enough air circulating in it), or sometimes it went moldy (too much freedom and bacteria/flies got in). I got this little starter starter set, and it has made everything so much easier. Just use the lines on the side to measure out what you need and very easily see it's progression. The thermometer is really helpful too, though that has started to peel away after only a week. The band is also usful for marking the beginning point. And no bugs got in when I was using the fabric cover. The spatular is also great because the whole thing can be used to scrap down the sides, not just the end like most spatulas. Highly recommend!

Not required but very helpful
I just got into making sourdough bread. This measuring cup is a great tool in determining if starter has risen enough to use. Will also be helpful in making yeast breads. Highly recommend.

LOVE
The media could not be loaded. This is exactly what I needed for my sourdough starter. I was using a jar and it just wasn’t big enough. This is perfect. You can mark the last time you fed it and it has a temperature sensor on it.
