I ordered these giant safety pins for of all things....wait for it....to use following surgery! Yes, I had surgery in July of this year to have a large mass removed from my upper thigh and groin area. I had 3 JP drainage tubes sewn into my leg and connected to tubing which the nurses looped together and pinned to my hospital gown, but the large regular safety pin was not strong enough to hold them and it kept coming a loose or either breaking. I ordered these and they worked like a charm! I spent a month in hospital followed by a stint in rehab. Never once did they break or come undone. Several nurses and doctors commented on what a practical idea it was. I'm quite sure this isn't what they were designed for, but they fulfilled a need. I have the remaining bag and when I look at them in my "essentials" drawer, never junk...lol, I smile thinking how for 2 months these pins got me through a difficult time. They served a very vital if an unconventional purpose.

These gigantic safety pins can certainly be used for all kinds of things from upholstery to...I don't know...curtains? I got them because I wanted to have plenty of options for my Renaissance Festival garb. In the RenFaire arena, I can use these to hike up my skirts or close capes. There are many uses for something like this. These look nice, close well, and are strong enough for anything I want to use them for. I'm quite pleased with them.

I bought these for my sister (who recently became an amputee) to pin up a pant leg. They are Very Large but did the job nicely. FYI, becuase of the size they can leave lingering holes in pants.

Although it serves its purpose, be careful if you use them on clothing. It will definitely pierce a hole in your garment. Just make sure to mindful of the fabric.

The reviews said that it came dull. They were right but the metal is such that a few swipes over a sharpening stone and it was plenty sharp. I used it on heavy canvas in my fishing bag, it worked just fine.
