Its rugged metal design supports long hours of stable use, making it ideal for live streaming, video conferencing, and content creation with DSLR cameras, gaming consoles, and more.

## Description

Product Description USB 3.0 FOR DATA TRANSMISSION & POWERFUL SUPPLY The devices use USB 3.0 interface and no external power is needed. They also support USB 2.0 port, but the real-time frame rate will be reduced due to limited bandwidth. Users can also use a USB 3.0-to-Type C cable to connect it via USB Type C interface on the computer. COMPATIBILITY OF MULTIPLE OPERATING SYSTEMS Support Windows, Linux, macOS and Chrome OS. Windows 7/8/8.1/10/2008/2008 R2/2012 (x86 & x64). Linux (Ubuntu 12.04–16.10, CentOS 7). OS X 10.9–10.11. macOS 10.12 ChromeOS. DESIGNED FOR LONG HOURS OF STABLE WORK Metal housing to help heat dissipation of the chip. Use USB 3.0 Type A connector, which doesn’t easily get loose after long time of use. A USB Capture passes 7×24 working test in temperature between 0-50 ℃. SOFTWARE COMPATIBILITY Support operating system native video capture APIs, including DirectShow, DirectKS, V4L2, ALSA and QuickTime. Support DirectSound based audio acquisition interface, extended interface based on IKsPropertySet. Compatible with almost all software based on DirectShow architecture. HDMI to USB video capture dongles are handy devices that will convert video and audio from a HDMI source through a standard USB 3.0 interface, with no additional power source required,, letting you stream it to your USB-compatible device including all types of computers. The USB capture device is designed for many purposes. For example, you can connect your camera that has an HDMI out to a Magewell USB Capture Device, which you can then connect to your laptop via USB. Your laptop will recognize the Magewell device as a webcam, and you will be able to stream the video from your camera to your computer, even if it doesn't have an HDMI input. The main purpose of capture devices is for the user to be able to stream and record in better quality than an average webcam/phone can offer. One key benefit of external USB capture devices is the fact that you don't have to open your computer to install it, you simply just plug & play. because of this, you can stream HDMI video to your laptop, and not just desktop computers. This will also allow you to use an external USB capture device to capture from your DSLR camera, as a PS4 screen recorder or an XBOX game capture solution. For this, you will need a Magewell USB Capture HDMI 4k Plus device, which is one of the best selling models. Besides using it as a game capture HD device, you can use Magewell USB capture dongle anywhere or anytime you need to capture HD/4k footage to your computer. For example, with a capture dongle like this, you will be able to use your DSLR camera for Zoom, Skype, Facebook, Wirecast, Google Hangouts, Microsoft Teams, Adobe Connect, OBS Studio, or other types of video conferencing, streaming or video capturing software, without any complicated setup. As long as the software you want to use recognizes a regular webcam, the Magewell USB Capture dongle will work with it. This can be achieved without any driver installation, or complicated configuration of any kind. You can stream HDMI video in 4k/HD quality as soon as you connect the device. Compatible Software Magewell USB Capture Utility V3 While all of the Magewell USB capture dongles work straight out of the box and require no driver installation, if you want more control, you can download their USB Capture Utility. This is a very powerful tool that will let you customize your Magewell device in detail, setting the parameters just the way you want it. You can also use the tool to process videos, and for keeping the dongles updated with the latest firmware. If superior image quality is what you require, then the Magewell USB capture devices are a must-have, especially if you are dealing with video recording/streaming/production on a regular basis. They are convenient in a size and quality, providing an enormous amount of functionality in a small package

Review: Works brilliantly but then again at this price so it should! Full HD 1080p at up to 60fps! - Expensive or what? More than my video camera but it does the trick of turning Full HD HDMI signals into 1080p USB3.0 webcam signals that can then be used with, say, OBS. Unfortunately I discovered that ManyCam could not handle the data volume so thank goodness OBS can. No frames are lost and it handles audio too but I use a separate USB mic so that aspect is not important to me. It does get HOT in use so do NOT leave it plugged in except when using it - see my desertcart review of the USB ON/OFF SWITCH FOR USB 3.0 & 2.0 // HmbG - 1401 for an easy way of switching it off without constantly unplugging it from the USB socket. As this is the ONLY device guaranteed to make an HDMI signal look as though it's coming from a webcam (and can therefore be used in Skype, for example) I guess they can name their own price. And they did. But it is THE answer for me so I just swallow hard at the price tag and now use it several times a week.
Review: Works well. Gives good quality video - I bought this to do live streaming. It was not cheap, but I wanted something with some quality behind it. It is very well built in a sturdy metal case and I imagine it could take some punishment. It connects to a variety of Gopro Hero 4 cameras via some infeasibly long HDMI cables and a switch. It gives excellent results on the video. I have not tried the audio at all, because I source the audio for the live stream separately. There is a slightly annoying "No Signal" screen that pops up when I change cameras over using the switch, but I can hardly criticise it for that because it does actually lose the signal for a few seconds, so it is only doing its job. I have a second USB webcam I cut to when I need to swap sources over, so no one ever notices.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How is the latency? Do you notice a delay between your movement and the preview screen in Skype, Hangouts, Wirecast, or XSplit?**
A: I use the magewell for resolume arena the latency is similar to the mini recorder black magic but works better on pc than mac

**Q: Can i use this with a hdmi switcher like this etekcity 4k x 2k 4 port high-speed hdmi to switch from any camera and do live streaming in youtube?**
A: I use it with a 4 port HDMI switcher but not for live streaming. There are several seconds of black screen when I switch the video source. This may have more to do with the video capture software (I use Vidblaster) than the Magewell device. And it doesn't do 4k.

**Q: I need help... sony a6000 to lenovo y50 laptop. Video comes clean out of HDMI to a TV, but all I get is a static picture through the Magewell to comp**
A: I have used the A6000 with this device to multiple computers, with multiple chipsets, and it pulls up in the Windows 10 camera app without a hitch. Be sure your app is set to this video source. When I first used it, I was disappointed in the video quality, but then I realized the laptop defaulted to its internal camera. When I selected the video capture card, the difference made the purchase worthwhile. For extra credit, hook the usb on the A6000 up to the computer as well, and use the Sony remote app to tweak the picture.

**Q: Is this device hdcp compliant?**
A: No. But you can use a cheap HDMI splitter to remove the HDCP 1.4 protection. I have tested this with an OREI HDS-102 (cheap 2x1 1080p60 HDMI splitter) and a PlayStation 4 (with HDCP enabled) successfully

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works well. Gives good quality video

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent but far too expensive and I had to send the first one back
*by V***P on 11 December 2016*

Really a life saving if you are looking for trueplug-and-play Full HD streaming and you want to use your own camcorder, which has a HDMI output. Pros: Excellent plug and play (truly!) and no big usage of the CPU Cons: it gets really hot (I think this is because it processes the signal itself, without using the resources of the PC, which is great) and...the price...come one guys, it costed me more than the Canon camcorder that I bought together...I don't believe not even one second that the production costs are so high to oblige you to fix such a high price, so the only thing that pops up to my mind is that there are no other tongles like this one around and you are using the desperation of your clients to raise the price Having said this, the first one did not work and I had to send it back (thank you Amazon for your return policy) but before I have been in touch with the after-sales service who responded in less than 24hours, I believe from China, giving me some useful information and advices to check whether I had a problem with the ports or it was tge dongle that was not properly working (I am impressed guys...well done) Overall, only four stars due to the price (really too high) and to the quality control, otherwise I don't regret the purchase.
