Marcus Aurelius Meditations: The Original Ancient Greek Text with English Translation Paperback – July 7, 2017

I was hoping to get a quality bilingual copy of the Meditations, but this text, especially the Greek, is very difficult to read. The English translation is very loose, adding descriptions that go beyond the original Greek, and the section numbers in Greek and in English often do not match up with each other. Finally, there were many cases in the Greek text where words were written without a space in between them, and in both the Greek and English there are many words that have more than one space in between them. This makes it difficult, and if you are not a native Ancient Greek speaker (who is?), almost impossible to read until you come to the realization that one word is actually two. Would not recommend.

I have so far found many typos in this translation. It is also awkward, as if the translator retained the Greek syntax, making little effort to smooth out the experience for the modern reader. I recommend the George Long translation instead. There may also be better translations since.That said, this is an incredibly inspiring text, making it well worth finding a better translation.

A poor translation with errors in both the Greek and English. It is readable and good for people who just want to read Meditations, but I assume those buying this want it for the Greek. In that case, go to Loeb.
