PMP Certification All–in–One For Dummies

Great book with good explanations and examples. I haven't taken the exam yet so I don't know how efficient it is. I have been comparing its content to the PMBOK and I see few differences. There are some items in the PMBOK that are not mentioned here. So I would recommend to read both books. This one will explain the important concepts in a very clear manner so it is much easier the grasp them.

Well written and laid out in a logical manner that takes the reader through PMP with commensurate ease. I found it really useful and would recommend it as being value for money.

Definitely a simpler way to study Project management. Comprehensive explanations and less 'jargonistic' than PMBOK

One of the lesser known/less popular books on PMP Prep(not as Popular as Rita/ Head First) but I found it as a very useful Book. I came across this book while reading some excellent online articles by the Author Cynthia in Dummies website. at less than 450 Rs INR, you can't go wrong with this book. Here are the Pros and Cons of this book: Pros: 1. Content is in same order as PMBOK (except that it is used process group wise, not Knowledge area wise) so it's an excellent accompanying book to understand PMBOK in easy language 2. Has samples of all the important Project Management Templates like Project Charter, WBS, Risk Register etc 3. Like any other dummies book, easy to use language Cons: 1. I felt arranging Knowledge area wise would have made it better and more in sync with PMBOK . However, since Most of the other books (except Kim Heildman) are KA wise, this book should help in reading the same content Process Area wise. 2. End of chapter questions are too easy and may not be useful for PMP preparation.

Wenn man sich beginnt, mit der PMP-Zertifizierung auseinanderzusetzen, wird oft reflexartig die "die Rita" (Mulcahy) zur Vorbereitung empfohlen. Ein Bekannter hat nun beide Bücher gelesen und genutzt und konnte sich ein vergleichendes Urteil erlauben. Das "Dummies" kam dabei erheblich besser weg. Nachdem ich ihm nun gefolgt bin, kann ich nun zumindestens das "Dummies" Buch sehr empfehlen (auf die Rita habe ich verzichtet) und zwar aus folgenden Gründen: - Es ist klar strukturiert und verständlich geschrieben. - Die Gliederung erfolgt primär nach Prozessgruppen und nicht nach Knowledge Areas also auch so wie sie in der Zertifizierungsprüfung abgefragt wird. Ferner macht das Denken in Prozessen mehr Sinn, um ein Gesamtverständnis für den Projektmanagementgesamtprozess zu erlangen. Das Buch verzichtet aber nicht darauf, die Zusammenhänge zu den Knowledge Areas klar und deutlich herzustellen. - Das Buch hangelt sich an einem praktischen Projektbeispiel (das die Autorin in der Realität auch so erfahren hatte) von vorne bis hinten durch das Thema durch. Das macht alles sehr klar und verständlich und illustriert die genaue Vorgehensweise. - Das Buch behandelt bereits die neueste Version des PMBOK-Inhaltes, also die 5th Edition, der für alle Prüfungen ab 1. Juli Geltung. Somit war es auch eines der ersten, die dazu verfügbar waren. Die Unterschied zu PMBOK, 4th Edition, sind zwar eher marginal. Wenn man sich aber ein Lehrbuch kauft, möchte man schon gerne den neusten Stand haben. - Das Buch ist im Gegensatz zu "der Rita" als Kindle-Version verfügbar. Somit hat man es auf allen Endgeräten immer bei sich und kann sogar die Testfragen elektronisch erfassen. Das war für mich eine erhebliche Erleichterung. Auf langen Zufahrten oder im Flugzeug möchte ich heutzutage eigentlich nicht mehr ein kiloschweres Buch mit mir rumschleppen. - Schließlich kostet es (als elektronische) Variante sogar nur ein Viertel so viel wie die Rita. Der Titel "für Dummies" mag abschreckend klingen, war es für mich zumindest. Hatte ich doch zuerst gedacht, es handelt sich um ein oberflächliches Machwerk für unerfahrene Projektmanager. Dem ist aber nicht so. Sowohl Anfänger als auch seniore Projektleiter finden eine solide Basis zur Prüfungsvorbereitung. Ich kann das Buch mit 5 Sternen weitermempfehlen.

Fast shipment but I was not aware I was receiving a used copy. Lucky for me so far only 1 page has hand scribbles observed. Either way it was still in pretty good condition. Let's see if it REALLY helps with PMP exam prep.

Without doubt, the best preparation guide for the PMP exam (and I have read most of them!!). It resolved many of the ambiguities present in the PMBOK and other sources. For example, the discussion of forward and backward passes for critical path analysis when leads, lags and non FS situations are present is without equal, as is the comparison of zero vs day 1 start times in CP. If you use one source for your exam prep, this should be it.
