if you like candles you will love this
I bought this item for my girlfriend as part of a gift and she loves it. This was a great gift as in the evening she can now use the jar instead of a candle and it produces the same warm glow she enjoys. The advantages of this product are that she does not have to go out and buy more and more candles as they run out, it replaces the untidy look of a half burnt and melted candle, and it is incredably safe (no flames involved). My girlfriend has encountered no problems so far with this item. It gets plenty of sunlight considering we live in Belfast, it gives off more light than a candle which is great for her but is not suitable for people wanting to e.g. read, write. Overall, I believe this product is good value for money if you take into account the fact that you will become the proud owner of a mini solar panel, you don't need to waste money on candles and the bulb is enclosed in what I can only describe as a really cool old fahioned sweetie jar.

Golden Glow
We've had two of these... (had to get a replacement when the first one got dropped - oops!) and I agree with what some others have said about consistency. Our first one was ok. We liked it but it needed some serious sunshine to get it going, and in the middle of winter that was a bit hard to come by, so sometimes it took a couple of days to charge properly. But once it was charged it was lovely and gave off a beautiful golden glow, which gradually faded after a couple of hours, so perfect for my son to go to bed with it on in his room, and by the time we were ready for bed ourselves it had gone out. The second one though - wow! Sitting on a windowsill even on a dull day is enough to charge it up to last for... well, I don't know how long because I turn it off when we go to bed! Certainly longer than 3 hours and it's still going strong. What I would do is to give it a go, and if the one you get seems to be one of the not-so-good ones then send it back and ask for a replacement. The good ones are excellent and well worth it, so maybe if they get enough returned then they might work on consistency! Structurally they are very sturdy (as long as you don't drop them on a brick floor - they ARE glass!) and very attractive. When fully charged it really looks like you have trapped sunshine inside it! My son (aged 6) thinks it's fabulous!

great little gadgets
i was first aware of these a few years ago when a friend gave one to a keen eco friend, such a simple idea yet it works so well. i was then given one and have recently bought this twilight one for a friend who is a big fan of pink. it has been admired and adored by all. take it as it comes, pop it by the window and yes the brightness of the light will depend on how much sun there has been during the day. in the summer they just go on for hours and have provided a good source of light for many evenings of bbqs and other outdoor night time entertainment. in the winter obviously not as great but they do still work, you can switch the light off and it still charges up but doesn't use any of the charge so after a while it will be brighter again, even take the battery out and charge it up if your really keen. the other great thing is the automatic switch on when the sun goes down, you don't even have to think about it. would definately recommend these sun jars (i have the original sun jar, and have experienced the pink/twilight jar) so can't comment on the blue moon light necessarily but i'm sure they are just as good. was a little worried the pink might be a bit of a bright pink but its actually fairly subtle and toned down whilst still being a great little light source.

suck uk sun jar..but does it really suck!
I thought this was a really great idea. Im into solar power and quirky gadgets. I think the sun jar looks better than the moon jar. When this first came it was really good, lighted up nicely, was quite bright but not soo much to hurt. Quite a soft light giver. It does look good since the jar is frosted glass so its a mellow glow. It doesn't look too ugly in the day time but its no piece of awe inspiring art either! It is slightly random on the bedside table or windowsill, kind of out of place. I almost want to take it to the kitchen and put it with my other glass jars! Now i have had it a while it seems to work less well. It has a mind of its own ( perhaps its going through puberty) because it cant make its mind up if it wants to work or not! Sometimes it does mostly not very well thought, other times its more of a 'night' jar and gives off no light. I suppose nothing last forever though. When in its prime time it is quite amusing, nice to show off...to people who like glass jars... ( and of course gadget lovers :P ) and the switch from constant to automatic is quite a good aspect. Its gone down a lot in price now so its probably worth it for the money now but don't expect a lifelong partnership from it, its probably going to leave you in the dark after a year or so.

Not much of a solar light
The first day it worked like a charm. I love this deep blue moon-like glow (which - by the way - is the same as in the pictures). After the second day, it began flickering and then it went off. Ever since, it only works for a little less than four hours, then it begins to flicker and eventually it dies. Who knows, maybe next week it will die altogether. I had read the other reviews and knew that there was a pretty good chance that it wouldn't work, I guess I liked it so much I thought I might be one of the lucky ones who have had it for three months and it still shines. I'll try replacing the battery later on and leave it to charge when it stops raining, hoping I've somehow found the problem. I won't bother to return it a)because the postage cost is too high b) because I don't trust this product any more, I can't be sure they won't send me another defective one. If nothing works, it will be the most expensive marmalade jar in history. *-*-*-*-*-*-* EDIT *-*-*-*-*-*-* The problem is actually that the battery won't charge enough in the sunlight. In the end I was forced to use a charger and now it actually glows for more than eight hours, which is great, but it's not a solar light any more.

Nice glow and lasts years.
I bought this in April 2017 and it’s still working perfectly. I got two years out of the stock battery and I put in a new Eneloop one each year since. It ‘sweats’ inside and can have a good bit of water by season end but I’ve had no corrosion issues yet. Connections looks worse for wear but it’s still working. I’m in Ireland and we’re not know for our dry bright summers - still this has a nice warm glow every night. Going to buy another two and I just hope they haven’t changed components in the intervening years.

A bit hit and miss but great when they work
I bought a couple of these for my Dad a good few years ago, charged them both in the same place for the same length of time, and found that one glowed brightly and the other only very weakly. A shame. The one that worked was lovely and did its job well. After years of being subjected to rainy weather (definitely not watertight, these jars), both of them gave up the ghost in the last while, so I took a risk and ordered another two for my Dad. Charged them both last week, again in exactly the same place for the same length of time, and one of them doesn't glow at all. I've asked for a replacement, which I hope arrives in time for my Dad's birthday. Curious to see if the new one glows brightly, weakly or not all. Sun jar roulette.

A real talking point, I just bought a second one
I bought one of these on the strength of the most positive reviews here and having had it for a couple of weeks now I agree with those reviews. The glow has a rather magical quality which looks great in the garden once it gets really dark. Like all devices with small solar panels you'll need this thing to be in as much direct sunlight for as long as possible to get it to provide any reasonable charge to its battery. You do have to leave it outside for this as window glass filters UV light (so I'm told) and greatly reduces the charge it can provide to a solar panel. Ours has been a real talking point when people visit. I've just bought another one to give as a present.

These do suck! I purchased them last spring and loved them ...
These do suck! I purchased them last spring and loved them until they started to not charge. I put them away for the winter indoors in the dry. I put them out a few days ago and only one works now. They are very nice but they don't work and for the price that really Sucks!!

J'suis contant

The Moon Jar Solar LIght is so cool!
I actually bought this for my boyfriend to go along with his other gifts. It works great and is so cool. The only thing is you have to leave it in direct sunlight for a while to charge the solar panel up inside. Unfortunately we haven't had much sun lol. But we did get to use it around Christmas and New Year and it worked wonderful. Now that the clouds and snow are gone I think I'll run back to the house and sat it outside to charge up. Highly recommend this to anyone who likes cool gadgets! :) Thanks Emily Wilkerson Montgomery/Luverne, Alabama
