Paint wise, you can get away with just Grey, Black, Hull Red, Brass and Wood so you do not really need a huge pallet to make it. What you do need is a bit of time, this is not something you can throw together. In terms of the price, it is my view that it offers great value. When complete it is massive and pretty impressive. Should you tackle this then my only advice is to plan ahead a little bit. Treat it as lots of little models which you add together. I found it easier to search online when I purchased the model & found loads of information on how to build the Bismarck model with the colours to use & mix. **Q: Do you have to paint the kit yourself and what colours do u need to paint it and do u have to get the paint separately** A: Hi Mrs DThis kit is one of the best out there at the moment for the Bismarck. It will build into a large scale model of the ship and can be a challenge to a person who may not have that much experience with the hobby, I would say though that there is good tips and build instructions on youtube.As for the paint it will indeed need painting but first an undercoat is advisable. You will need a dark grey, light grey, metallic gray, black, a deep red and a light tan or wooden colour for the deck. I would say getting a spray paint for the hull will get you better results. You will have to get these separately I haven't got the box with me as I'm writing this however there should be a paint guide on the side of the box but the instruction will tell you what the whole range of colours that are needed.
