Very long term review (nearly 14 years later!)
My original review: Back in early 2012 I was diagnosed as suffering from Shifted Sleep Phase Disorder. What this means is that unlike most people whos'e natural body clocks tell them they they're tired at around 10-11pm, I just don't feel remotely tired until around 2-3am. I have to get up for work at 5 and as such I used to have to set a total of 9 different alarms which still occasionally failed to get me up on time. Not any more! I was looking for a serious, very loud alarm clock that would definitely get me up on time to go to work. Enter the Sonic Bomb. I've been using my Sonic Bomb literally Monday - Friday every week (except holidays) for the past 6 and a half years. It's never once missed a beat and has been successful 100% of the time in getting me up on time. It also keeps fairly accurate time so won't need to be reset often at all. The alarm itself is incredibly loud and the shaker unit even placed underneath 2 pillows feels like about 50 mobile phones bundled together. No matter how heavily you sleep, or no matter how little sleep you get on any given night, this will wake you up on time. The only potential disadvantage is that the alarm is so loud that it could very well wake up everyone in the same house as you. Yes, it really is that loud. However, the Sonic Bomb offers a shaker-only mode with no audible alarm. I can't recommend this heavily enough and due to my sleep issue it's probably saved me from being sacked over the years. Edited to add: At the time of writing (October 2020) I'm still using my Sonic Bomb every week day and it's as reliable today as the day it came out of the box. Still gets me up on time like nothing else can, no matter how little sleep I've had and no matter how early I need to be out of bed. Not the cheapest alarm but if you 100% absolutely MUST be up on time and demand a 100% reliable alarm then accept no substitutes. If and when mine does eventually fail in the distant future then I'll instantly buy another one. Unhesitatingly recommended.

If you are a member of the '5 alarm clocks isn't enough' club, then this is the only tool for waking that can help you.
The Sonic Bomb alarm clock successfully solved a problem that has troubled mankind since the dawn of time. I have a history of sleeping through up to 5 loud alarm clocks. I believe I must enter a semi-death like state, from which, it is almost impossible to be resurrected. That is, until the Sonic Bomb came in to my life. I had successfully avoided over sleeping in a new job for several years, until I went down with swine flu and had just finished an 18 hours shift. I had to be up again in 6 hours, but that horrible feeling, that I thought had been left behind when I left school, came flooding back. That blood draining 3 seconds of searching panic, when you try to get your head straight and make sense of the blurry clock reading, is perhaps one of the most dreadful of human experiences. Even though my boss understood that I had a reason to be 2 hours late, I felt like a right tool. I signed on to Amazon that morning and found this amazing alarm clock. I totally agree with several other reviewers, if you do not wake when this activates, you have made the sacred journey to the perpetual state of the afterlife. The audible alarm is so loud that I shiver every time I think of it. Even so, if there's still a slight chance that you might not wake up, then the vibration plate is the defacto 100% back-up that we've needed all these years. How they got an exploding jumbo jet in to that small black disc is still a mystery to me. If it's under your pillow, you will wake up. If you have no pulse and have started to decompose, you will be resuscitated and then woken up. You literally cannot believe just how massive the vibrations are. I found that if I put the vibro disc on a wooden table, I could wake the whole house and hilariously convince family members that we were experiencing an earthquake, no I'm not joking, it fooled people several times, to the extent that they came running out of their room in a blistering panic, shouting 'everyone out'. In summary, if you absolutely, totally, must get up at a certain time, we are very fortunate that the genius who created this, has given us a 100% reliable way of not sleeping in and doing 'that' walk of shame. The fact is that you have probably recently experienced that dreadful sinking feeling you get, just after having finally woken up late. This need to avoid falling victim to oversleeping again, has thankfully been satisfied completely by the Sonic Bomb and boy am I thankful that I took the leap of faith and bought one. A great invention, which has made a very much appreciated difference to my life. Sooner or later a Youtube prankster will strap the vibro disc to someones head while they're asleep, which will probably do the sales of this great product no harm at all.

Terrifyingly efficient
Suffering from symptoms of sleep drunkenness, I've always had trouble to wake up for as long as I can remember, even as a young kid. In the recent years, I've always had my parents or housemates waking me up on top of my 2-3 alarms but for the last month or so, I've been living alone and the alarms sometimes weren't enough, even the loud ones. This product changed this situation drastically. The alarm is very loud and you can even change the tone of it if you don't want to get accustomed to the same sound over and over again. The vibrating pad is a new feature for me and it's been very helpful ever since I've had it under my pillow. The loud alarm combined with the furious vibration and the flashing lights on the display will make you feel like you're in the middle of a police raid, which is quite effective to wake me up. The only single annoying thing on this product is the power cut recovery. I fitted a 9V battery to make sure the clock would keep my time and alarm settings in case of a power outage and it did it perfectly but when the power comes back, the display is flashing on and off and you actually need to change the time to make it stop flashing. It is a useful feature when the clock doesn't keep your settings but I shouldn't have to change the time when it's already the right one... I still highly recommend this product for yourself or any of your relatives who has trouble waking up.

Love this alarm clock! (Using it with shaker pad only)
This alarm clock is great and just what I was looking for! I'm actually a very light sleeper, and didn't need a clock that is loud, but I wanted an alarm clock that can wake me up by vibration only. I'm hypersensitive to sound and when I set a regular alarm, for some reason I constantly believe I can hear it in the middle of the night and wake up, just to find that it's 2am or 3am or 4am or whatever, and no alarm going off. And when it actually goes off, I always find it way too loud, regardless of how quiet it really is. I wanted to see what happens with a shaker pad instead of sound, and the result is a much more relaxing sleep for me. I've stopped waking up in the middle of the night, hallucinating alarm clocks going off, and when the shaker pad goes off, it feels like a massage, yet it's impossible to sleep through it. The vibration is much stronger than I had anticipated, so I put it buried under a mattress and a mattress topper in the middle of the bed. The big numbers also mean that you can easily see the time at night. The snooze button is easy to reach. And I love how customisable it is! You can customise almost anything. The snooze duration, volume, tone (even though I don't use the last 2), the brightness of the display, ... You can also add a 9V battery in case there is a power outage - if the main power supply is cut, the battery is used as a backup power supply, so you won't oversleep, and you won't have to readjust everything. The display goes off while it's running on the battery, but everything else still works. And the display comes back on once the main power is back. The only thing that would make this even better is if you could set more alarms (even just 1 more would be enough), and adjust the days they are active on. E.g.: Alarm 1, Monday to Friday. Alarm 2, Saturday. Alarm 3, Wednesday. Otherwise you'll have to remember to turn your work alarm off Friday afternoon and turn it back on Sunday afternoon.

Hmm.. nice!
Just got this alarm clock some days ago.. Was expecting it with great excitement as lately I've overslept for work many times and felt super frustrated.. Also what annoys me a lot, is that in general I need to ask someone else to come and check that I'm awake/wake me up, being a very independent person I do not like to depend on someone like this. In general I'm quite bad with waking up and sleep fairly deeply. But I thought I'm not the worst case! However the first morning I used my alarm clock - either I just simply didn't hear the loudest volume of the alarm clock nor feel the vibration of the pad under my very thin pillow or it simply just didn't work.... I suspect the second version as I tend to at least hear alarm clocks, but just turn them off and carry on sleeping. Anyways, that was disappointing. Following mornings it has worked, though! Hope it will continue working.. Sound isn't as SUPERloud as I imagined, but I believe it's just perfect for me as I don't have major problems. Vibration is quite strong which I find good because when it works it mostly tends to wake me up. I wish the lead for the pad was longer, so I could place the alarm clock further away from my bed that I would have to get out of bed to actually turn it off. Large snooze button is far too tempting! And the clock smells strongly like plastic... obviously as it's made of it. And it's big and ugly. Still, though I've pointed out the things that disturb me about this clock, I guess it's the best option available if you want something loud and shaky to wake you up for sure! I hope it'll carry on as trustworthy (with the exception of first morning) and do the job and wake me up nicely every morning. So far I think I'm happy with the purchase as I think nothing else would help better. Buy buy buy :D

The strongest vibrator makes your neighbours happy.
Hello you Heavy Sleepers. Let me say; I really think that I am the heaviest sleeper on earth. You won't believe what I have slept through!! I have scanned the internet for exstra loud alarm clocks. This Bomb clock and the Whake'n Shake appears to be the loudest and with the strongest vibration. The Wake'n shake doesn't look like a gadget, but it has gigantic numbers, is even bigger than the Bomb and it is not pretty neither. Yet you can attach your phone to it. I am not disabled in any way, so this Bomb clock is the only clock for me. For the first time I don't have to wake up the whole house every morning with my stereo. In the beginning the vibrator was enough to wake me up (the whole bed shake), but now I turn up the sound according to how tired I will be in the morning too. It never fails to wake me. You can adjust the snooze time from 1 to 30 minutes. It keeps waking for adjustable 1 to 59 minutes. On this UK version you can set two alarm times. I set the first alarm to ring 1 hour and 15 minutes (a little sleep period) before the second alarm without snoozing. When the second alarm goes off I snooze 3-4 minutes at the time. In that way I don't start a new sleep period. It is importent to let in the sun/light before I "snooze" and I have to get out of the bed to reach the Bomb. When I travel, I use the Sonic Shaker combined with my mobile phone. This is a more elegant combination, but I don't trust it completely like I trust the Sonic Bomb. It should be 113 dB, but Geemarc says only 85dB. I can only say that it is very load and the vibrator is the very stongest with its 12 Volt. This site helped me, but I am convinced that they underestimate the loudness of The Sonic Bomb. www.connevans.info/image/connevans/clock_comparison.pdf This ugly alarm clock is a lifesaver! Amazing Product
BEfore buying this product I checked the product reviews to make sure everything was in order and found a few people were having problems keeping the time, I clicked on the comments page for one of these reviews and found that the cure is to set the thing on the back to 50Hz (if you are in the UK) as it's time-keeping comes from the electricity in the house (you plug it into the wall) and you have to set the thing on the back in accordance to the homes electric (UK = 50Hz)whereas setting this to 60Hz would mean the homes electric and the alarm clock settings didn't match (you'll understand what I mean when you buy this item. Anyway it's very loud and is guarenteed to wake you up, I wasn't sure what to expect from the vibrating attachment but was impressed, it vibrates furiously and if placed under your pillow is guarenteed to wake you, the volume of the thing and the vibration together is definately something you'll wake upto. It's easy to set time and alarm, easy to use the volume etc. I just want to say now this product does not require batteries, there is a slot for a 9V battery but it is not required, as I've said this alarm is powered by the homes electricity all the battery is for is a backup so if the homes electric cuts out or whatever then the alarm will be able to keep track of time, according to the instructions even if the electric was to cut out then the LED screen wouldn't show it would just keep time, if you ask me it's better just giving the battery a miss and re-setting the time when needing to (when unplugged or electricity cuts out)

Great Clock
We got this because of hearing loss and because our regular alarm clocks no longer woke us up. Have had the SONIC BOMB for a couple of weeks now and it is a great success. It's VERY loud (but adjustable) and the vibrating pad is brilliant. In fact the pad works so well (under our heavy mattress) that we found we could leave the alarm off and let the vibrations alone wake us up gently but easily. Even if we didn't have hearing problems this would be a great reason for getting the clock. It's a delightful way to wake. A few additional comments.... - The clock is much bigger than you'd guess from the picture. It's 5 1/2 inches tall. - The display is excellent and easily readable at night. - It's really easy to use. The switches and buttons are clearly marked, straightforward and logical. - The "set up buttons" are small but easy to feel and use when it's night for example or you're not quite awake. The layout is obvious with the OFF button on the end. - It is mains powered and there is an additional cable for the vibrating pad which means that the table is a little more cluttered than a standalone alarm clock. - It keeps time using the mains frequency (50 or 60Hz depending on what you need). I think this should be good over time but of course it's not radio controlled so you have to re(set) the time for daylight savings Strongly recommended.

Wonderful alarm for the hearing-impaired
I live in a duplex, and my tenant upstairs can hear a pin drop, it seems. Me, on the other hand...I've been hearing-impaired ever since having radiation/chemo treatments 15 years ago, and I have to wear hearing aids. When I don't have them in at night, a bomb could go off and I probably wouldn't hear it. Since I wake very early in the morning to go to work (5a.m.) I needed something that would wake me, but without disturbing the tenant. After seeing another review here from a mom who stated that her hearing-impaired son benefitted from this, I decided to try it, and wound up ordering one. Several months later, and I am in love with this alarm. I don't use the sound feature on this one (obviously) but rely on the vibration function in order to get up in the morning. And let me tell you, that vibration is strong! I place the vibrator-extension part under my pillow, and as soon as it starts up, I'm wide awake. There's no way anyone could sleep through it! It's silent, so it doesn't disturb other household members, and it's strong enough to wake anyone from a very deep slumber. (The alarm itself also flashes a red light when the vibration mode comes on, but I tend to not use that since I can't actually see the alarm clock until I sit up.) One tap on the bottom right button shuts off the wake vibration; one tap on top of the alarm gives you a chance to snooze (and you can set the time you want to snooze). AND the instructions on how to set up the alarm are extremely easy to follow (it couldn't even confuse me, and that's saying a lot!). The only thing that I perhaps might give a 'con' to is the clock itself; it's so lightweight that, in an effort to turn off the alarm, one could easily knock it over. I've gotten used to this though...and it's a minor flaw. Overall, for the price, the ease of use, and the reliability, I'd say this is one of the best investments I've made in a long time. Highly recommended. For the price
