NEEWER Professional Metal 360 Degree Rotating Panoramic Ball Head

This head was more solid than I expected for the price. I have much pricier ones and this one stands up well. It’s not overly heavy and I bought it to mount on top of a monopod. The attraction for me was having the spirit level and so being able to get the camera straight. The other surprise was that this came with a 1/4 inch insert which when taken out, becomes 3/8 inch. I expected a 3/8 and was going to have to buy an adapter for my monopod. It rotates as well as tilts so would work really well on a tripod with a ‘friction’ feel. Again, not expected at this price level. The ball and socket doesn’t do what some do, as in drop the camera suddenly when you loosen the adjustments. The slight friction is very useful in order to save the camera from smashing down onto your support. There is a locking screw on two sides so no need to ‘overtighten’ As you sometimes have to do with ball heads that only have one. You sometimes feel that you need to really screw the single ones down, where this one locks in, with not a great deal of screw pressure from two sides. Two spirit levels so the camera can be used in panoramic or upright position, retaining the level adjustment. The plate mechanism is simple and quick to operate so the camera comes off easily. No messing around like you can feel with some plate mechanisms that I’ve used in the past. There are two retaining screws underneath which means that the plate won’t sit with the camera on it, squarely onto a table. That would have been a bonus for those small cameras that you might want to sit on a table. The plate itself is excellent in that you can move the position of the holding screw by pushing down on the top while unscrewing. Then it comes off of the plate and you can screw it in another slot further forward or further back. Two extra slots are provided to allow you to centre the camera on the plate. Good finish and in my case, a venture into a cheaper mounting mechanism just to see whether it could match more expensive alternatives that I have. It does and in my opinion is well worth the price, which in the case of Neewer, I have found over and over with their photographic products which I am very familiar with, including lights and microphones. Good company that offer some terrific value products. This is better than I expected.

Bought this as a cheap way to try out the concept of ball heads having used a 3 way head for years. Overall this is a well built and solid thing, was able to handle my 2.5KG medium format film camera and the plate it comes with grips well in the holder. The only big con to me are the knobs. The rubber on them isn't integrated so if you want to really give them a good tighten when using a heavy camera, they slip and prevent that. You'd ideally want knurling to give you something to grip on to properly, but for a £20 item i can't fault it too much for skipping on this kind of detail, and for most people using lightweight digital stuff it's a non issue. The only other nitpick i can think of is the spirit level bubble you see in the picture is poorly placed. You want to have the plate tightening knob facing towards you so you can use it easily, this means once you put a camera on there the bubble level is now under your lens and unusable. Just means you have to level the head with the camera off the body if you want to use it. Definitely worth a buy if you want to try a ball head for the first time or want a better option than the default head you got one your tripod.

I don’t have experience of other ball head mounts but this mount feels very good quality for the price. It is solidly built, the adjustment knobs are very smooth to turn, as is the horizontal rotation. The finish is nice and I appreciate the red accent which matches some of my other equipment. It holds my Canon DSLR well on my Manfrotto tripod, and allows easy and precise adjustment. I am extremely pleased with it and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend assuming it otherwise fits your requirements.

Arrived yesterday and I was immediately impressed by the feel of this ball head in my hands. The knobs in a rubber coating felt smooth and firm, just as they should be. Once the knobs were screwed down the ball head would not move at all. The whole ball head feels like a quality item and at a fraction of the cost of other ball heads. I was impressed. I wanted this ball head for a video slider. It was easy to fit and screwed straight on within a few seconds.

When I was looking for a ball head for my tripod I compared loads on Amazon and made a short list which I whittled down and I kept wondering why this one remained in my list when it was up against a much more expensive one. I looked at Neewer's (who??) web site and read a lot about them and their aims and beliefs for photographic products. Along with all the positive reviews I just could not justify spending the premium price. When I received it I was impressed. I haven't used it fully in anger yet, but, it attached to my Manfrotto tripod easily (good bye pan and tilt head). It worked in combination with a Pig Iron L bracket I purchased as well and it easily supports my rather heavy Canon 7D mkII. It reeks of quality and craftsmanship and at this early stage I am more than happy. I need to test how it performs in the rugged highlands of Scotland but I have no immediate worries. So yes, I would recommend this.

I reduced it by one star to 4 star because although it works very well with the included plate, it is not a standard Arca fit. The Neweer L plate is 38mm and the grooves don't align. I can't remove the clamp unfortunately. I'm impressed with the ball head. The panning action is smooth, and you can lock the tilt movement while panning or vice versa. There are two knobs adjusting the ball action. One controls the resistance, the other fixes the ball in place. This allows me to adjust the resistance according to the weight of the camera and lens, so that I can move the ball with variable resistance levels. The clamp has a positive action in securing the plate, and there is a screw restrictor on either end of the supplied plate that prevents the camera sliding out. The supplied plate is well made and doesn't rattle. The plate has a groove that slides into the base, and a clamp tightens to secure the camera. When the camera is in the portrait position, a cut out in the ball cup, there doesn't appear to be any creep. I have a heavy tripod though so I'm happy to take the risk of supporting the camera off centre but with a long lens I will use the L plate once I get a secure fit.

Very good quality item, was unexpected. Can hold almost anything on it (depending on tripod) and operation is fluid. Like some other reviewers said perhaps it could be better with one knob on the ball, though sometimes the 2nd knob saved me from dropping the camera as I forget to catch it when releasing the first knob. Generally it is worth the money as it is up to the quality and build of much more expensive heads (maybe a bit heavier). I got it for panorama shooting and it does the job fluently.

I will be using this for astro-photography. It is beautifully designed and engineered with two little integral spirit levels, a smooth oil-damped pan head, and very firm grips on the ball joint. Nice quick release plate and various thread adapters included. How this brilliant bit of kit can be sold for under £20 in beyond me. There are various other similar products available on Amazon which I have not tested, but you can't go wrong with this one.

The build quality of this product is superb. It is reliably able to hold a heavy camera as needed. I love products that you can tell have a lot of thought and quality built into them.

Bei meinem alten Kugelkopf ist leider der Metallring gebrochen, welcher die Kugel fixiert hat. Da ich jetzt nicht der größte Profifotograf bin, sollte es auch kein Vermögen sein, das ich ausgeben muss. Hab es dann mit diesem Kugelkopf versucht und bin bisher sehr zufrieden. Er ist gut verarbeitet und wirkt sehr stabil. Bei mir muss er eine Nikon D5600 samt Tamron SP AF 17-50mm halten. Die Kombination wiegt ca. 1,2 Kilogramm und ist für den Kugelkopf kein Problem, egal in welcher Position. Die doppelten Feststellräder empfinde ich nicht als Problem, es lässt sich auch mit einer Hand alles anständig bedienen. Im Gegenteil, vielleicht ist es langfristig sogar besser, wenn auf den Feststellring im Inneren nicht nur ein Druckpunkt einwirkt, sondern der Druck auf zwei Punkte verteilt wird. Klar, das ist kein Produkt für den Profi-Einsatz, aber für meine Hobby-Anforderungen absolut ausreichend und nochdazu zu einem fairen Preis. Von mir gibt's volle Punktzahl.

Ottima testa a sfera e ottimo il rapporto qualità prezzo. 31,44 euro in offerta per un prodotto solido interamente in metallo, a parte naturalmente gli inserti di gomma morbida sulle quattro manopole di regolazione/bloccaggio e i gommini che assicurano un’aderenza stabile tra la piastra e la fotocamera. Il corpo principale Le regolazioni della testa sono comandate da quattro manopole molto fluide: - la manopola dotata di bolla per il serraggio della piastra; - le due manopole identiche e contrapposte che permettono di bloccare i movimenti della sfera; - la manopola posta alla base per la rotazione panoramica della testa. Per regolare i movimenti della sfera in realtà è sufficiente serrare una sola delle due manopole contrapposte, la seconda però rappresenta una comodità in più, può essere utile per scegliere se utilizzare la mano sinistra o la destra, oppure per impiegare una delle due come frizione (per rendere i movimenti più o meno fluidi) e l’altra come bloccaggio. Il movimento panoramico con scala graduata a 360 gradi è comandato dalla specifica manopola di blocco ed è dotato di una frizione con durezza costante non modificabile. La piastra a sgancio rapido La testa ha un attacco Arca Swiss che la rende compatibile con molti accessori che adottano questo standard. Personalmente ho montato sulla fotocamera una staffa a L (in alternativa alla piastra in dotazione) che avendo lo stesso attacco si adatta perfettamente alla testa e mi permette di usare indifferentemente la fotocamera sia in orizzontale che in verticale; in questo modo nelle panoramiche realizzate con più scatti verticali la fotocamera mantiene lo stesso asse di rotazione, riducendo le aberrazioni in fase di montaggio e mantenedo una maggiore stabilità anche con obiettivi pesanti. La piastra in dotazione è sufficientemente ampia per offrire un buon supporto e aderisce bene alla fotocamera sia per la qualità dei 6 supporti di gomma, sia per la buona presa offerta dalla piccola impugnatura pieghevole montata sulla vite da 1/4 che va a inserirsi nella filettatura della macchina. Il serraggio può essere quindi eseguito agevolmente a mano o se si preferisce con una moneta inserita nel taglio della vite. Il funzionamento La testa è ben dimensionata nel rapporto tra stabilità, dimensioni e peso. La utilizzo principalmente all’aperto ma torna utile anche nello still life. Supporta bene una Nikon D780 con Nikkor 16-35 mm (peso corpo macchina più obiettivo 1600 gr). Utili le due bolle. Le manopole sono tutte ben dimensionate, il loro funzionamento è fluido e graduale, buona la presa grazie agli inserti di gomma morbida. Il bloccaggio a vite della piastra è solido e personalmente lo preferisco a quello a leva perché più sicuro anche se un po’ meno rapido. La base ha una filettatura per l’attacco da 3/8, la testa arriva con un adattatore che la rende compatibile anche con l’attacco più piccolo da 1/4. l’adattatore può essere avvitato o rimosso facilmente con una moneta. La testa può quindi essere montata indifferentemente sui treppiedi che hanno l’attacco maschio con filetto da 3/8 o da 1/4. Primero, por lo que cuesta, esta es una gran rótula. Es suave. Se bloquea de forma segura y aguanta mi equipo fotográfico que pesará unos 4kg. Esta es una rótula de bola de trípode de alta calidad con una placa de liberación rápida que se adapta a las placas Arca Swiss. Eso significa que puede usar soportes en L de cámara compatibles para tener una configuración realmente elegante para cambios rápidos y fáciles en disparos verticales a horizontales. Esto también se puede utilizar como cabezal de arrastre para video, ya que hay un tornillo de ajuste para determinar cuánta resistencia al movimiento hay en la rótula izquierda-derecha. En general, esta es una ganga fantástica para una bonita rótula de aluminio y metal. La unidad es genial aunque un poco pesada. Pros: - Sólida - Suave, fácilmente ajustable.
