The Ten Commandments

The film itself is oustanding for it's special effects given it's age, it's superb cast and acting.. The 4K version is worth every penny, certainly gives the film realism, given it's agen, they've done an excellent job!

No wonder this film is considered one of the greatest ever made as the acting and the visual effects are stunning. Charlton Heston and Yul Bryner are outstanding as a brothers who are rivals when one finds out the other is not a true Prince of Egypt but was born as the son of Hebrew slaves. There are a lot of actors who became more famous in other genres the two that stand out are Vincent Price before he was better known in the Hammer House of Horror movies and also Yvonne de Carlo who before she was Mrs Liliy Munster is totally mesmerizing as the wife of Moses. This is one of those movies that is best watched on either DVD or Blu Ray so you're not interrupted by adverts on the TV. This is a long movie across 2 discs and has another disc with yet another earlier version of the story made in the 1920s which I have yet to see. This was from the golden age of Hollywood sadly that we will never see again.

Great epic film. Good quality. Great actors.

masterpiece must watch cinematic history

Last night at 7.00pm my wife and I settled down to watch this long unseen classic. I tried to imagine/remember sitting with my mum and dad in the circle of the SAVOY cinema in Exeter, for the special showing (2 week season) of this much publicised epic. Now here I am nearly 70 years later at home. What do I think?? The BLURAY is excellent, 16.9 ratio, choice of sound, good subtitles, with extras not seen. DISC ONE has an Overure and over 2 hours of almost scene setting with the young Moses in the basket, rising to a powerful "Prince of Egypt" Then to DISC TWO and the meat of the project. This is basically what we were/are all waiting for - The exodus from Egypt - The parting of the Red Sea and the Mount Sinai "10 COMMANDMENTS" - The end!! The acting? Heston is perfect and spends most of Part One topless. Brynner gives him stiff competition and really scores high as Rameses. EG Robinson never lets you down as the evil Dakan(?). Sadly I felt the rest of the cast didn't really think much of their scripts. Debra Paget is awful. Anne Baxter is miscast. So is De Carlo though she is well worth her salary. John Derek tries hard, and Carradine is only recognisable because of his voice. Everyone tries hard so I musn't be too unkind. The opening long credit list includes Clint Walker - find him and you are some spotter of future stars. Dated? Of course it is, and somehow, given the truly sad, awful state of affairs in the world now I can not see any TV channel showing this. I would love to be wrong because, faults and all, this remains a classic (if a very long one)

Very good. Came as advertised. Classic Film about the life of Moses.

A classic of cinema. The glorious presentation with classic intermission half way through, the glorious rich colour and stunning acting. Like many I have no interest in religion but I do love the Bible stories I grew up with in school. For me the stand out role was Yule Brinner's portrayal of the pharoah, especially the scene where he has to confront the truth that his young son is dead and he begins to quesiton his own faith in his own gods, all the while his wife is mocking him, just two superb actors playing roles to perfecyion. I like the overall story I find Heston to be competent but he seems to have been cast simply as "beefcake eye-candy" during Moses' earlier life, ripped shirt and bronzed complexion. Later in the film with the white beard and hair he simply looks a little too "local church production" for my liking, you half expect his beard to have those little wire hooks holding it on! A great film to pass a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, get some snacks in and just while away a few hours enjoying a classic piece of overdone American cinema, classic!

Amazing quality and great movie. Highly recommended

This film was beautifully restored for Blu-Ray. The colours are so bright and vivid, the sets were huge and detailed, and the visual effects are done extremely well...when you consider when this was filmed. This is Charlton Hestons crowning acting achievement and a must-have film for collectors and home theatre enthusiasts. Due to the pandemic, Deliveries will take a very long time, however the seller kept me well informed and responded to all my questions very quickly. The disc was well packaged and arrived intact. I trust this seller and would definitely purchase in the future.

The 1926 version was particularly interesting. Image quality is excellent black & white.

Like so many others here, I grew up watching TTC on television as a child and loved it more each time. A sensational film, it is touching, over-the-top-campy, and a wonderful record of a bygone era in Hollywood (and, indeed, America). I watch the film a few times a year and always find something in it I'd missed before. I was thrilled to have gotten these wonderful Blu-ray and DVD copies and have enjoyed the crisp, clear images and improved sound. Not incidental to this, there are many special features to dig into (some are repeats from the earlier DVD release, but interesting, nonetheless). I'd never listened to the feature-length commentary on the DVD before now, and was anticipating enjoying it at last. I was extremely disappointed and not-a-little annoyed by the egregious errors found there. The commentator was Katherine Orrison, a woman who, according to her Amazon.com blurb, has lived a very interesting life. She, too, was discovered TTC at an early age, and eventually grew up to interview people related with the movie. She seems to have been especially interested in Henry Wilcoxon, a Hollywood stalwart and fine actor who played pharaoh Rameses II's (Yul Brenner) captain of the guard in TTC, and, in fact, was a producer of the film, as well. He had a long and successful professional relationship with DeMille. Ms. Orrison gleaned a lot of interesting behind-the-scenes facts from him; she has even written a biography of Wilcoxon). The other cast/crew members Ms. Orrison quotes have their interesting moment, as well, she obviously became buddies with a few of the supernumeraries in TCC. While I'm sure they were nice people, a feature-long identification of these minor (I might say inconsequential) players was a distraction. Yes, it's interesting when she points out her friend who is carried around on a board during the bacchanal scene and who polishes the golden calf with her hair. Once, not over and over. Another of Orisson's fixations was Clint Walker, who plays a palace guard and was evidently much admired by Cecil DeMille, the director, who decorates many of the scenes with this hunky actor who went on to television fame on "Cheyenne". Considering the scope and (successfully achieved) ambition of TCC, one can't help but wonder what other fascinating tidbits never made it to the recording booth. Ms. Orrison is evidently a smart(ish) lady, but her comments are peppered (liberally) with unfortunate mispronunciations and downright misuses of words that all seem to have a few too many syllables for her to manage correctly. These occasions dull the gleam of the remainder of the commentary; I found myself waiting (wincingly) for the next blooper and, sadly, my wait was never a lengthy one. Surely, someone along the discs' production path should have caught and corrected these embarrassing slips. The most frequent mispronunciation of all was her inexcusable insistence on saying "Egyp" for Egypt -- not a final T to be found. And Egypt is mentioned A LOT in the commentary. I dare say even a first grader could clinch this word correctly. At best, these errors were distracting; at worst they were irritants. The commentary smacked of the unfortunate posture of an individual trying to sound smart by using big words and failing consistently and miserably. The TCC release is so professionally honed that the commentator's errors were all the more evident. For me, the worst thorn in the commentary was Ms. Orrison's misuse of her microphone time to preach and lecture the viewer on the religious nature of this movie. Of course, TCC's very essence is religiously-inspired. That is not a problem, and I'm not criticizing that aspect. Throughout the commentary, she offers her trite and uncalled-for personal interpretation of the film's holy tenets. Granted, a comment here or there regarding the miraculous events depicted are not out of bounds, but she prattles on and on about things she should not be including in a commentary for this film. Any respect or appreciation of her efforts diminished with every moment she continued preaching on the soundtrack. Her comments were flatly not appropriate or justified in this case. One would imagine that the world (especially Hollywood) is filled with experts who could have waxed loquaciously on the behind-the-scenes occurrences of TCC. One ends up disappointed that this was not the case. Perhaps, in a future release (possibly on a format as yet unimagined), another commentary will be readied - and edited - worthy of this legendary film.

As many times as we have watched this movie - about God's handiwork in setting the Jews free, sustaining them and bringing them miraculously to their homeland, we never tire of it! We are deeply grateful!
