Just the job
This oil was suggested to us by our kitchen fitter and it has given us a lovely finish to our new oak tops. The fitter suggested we keep feeding it until we get an even sheen all over as some of the segments of wood soak up more oil than others. You need to make sure you are not putting too much on at one go so it could take you a few days to get the best finish. We found it best to put a coat on with a clean cloth so that you are rubbing it in and then once all coated go over lightly making sure there aren't any areas too overloaded. We did this every evening so that it could soak in over night and be quite dry the next day and we reapplied like this until the required finish was obtained. Tin says that once coated the finish should harden more with time. Has been very easy to use and very happy with the finish and water seems to bead well on it.

Drying time 7 hours min
Product applies well and provides a hard coating. Itโs more of a varnish than an oil. Coverage is good I used a really small amount, maybe 150ml for 2 coats on a large kitchen island. HOWEVERโฆ. Forget what is says on the tin regs drying time. It takes around 10-12 hours to cure and in reality 24 hours for full hardening. It remains tacky for several hours 7+ so allow for this if you need the worktop. Itโs a strong solvent smell too so windows open! Apart from that itโs a great product

Something Special
We shopped around and tried various worktop oils, but this one was the best, itโs easy to apply and the smell is beautiful, and once you leave for roughly 5-10 mins buff it up with another cloth and you will see the difference in your worktops. Well worth the money so if you are thinking about it do not hesitate.

Ideal for solid worktops - same as Howdens Worktop Oil
Howdens rebadge Unika as their own worktop oil, which they do not sell to home DIYers - so this is the perfect option for those looking to refresh a worktop that may well have been fitted by Howdens previously (although I guess it's good for any wood!). I checked the Howdens product info sheet against this one and they are identical. This will protect your worktop from water and impact damage. However, I have found that if you leave a wet tin can on the worktop, you will get the dreaded black ring - that's because of the inherent properties of oak. Happily, you can just sand it off and re-oil. Very easy to apply - I recommend a thin coat using a sponge. You basically cannot over-oil a wood worktop so you are unlikely to mess things up. However, do make sure you wipe off any excess oil after 15 minutes or it will leave sticky patches. Be sure to swill your cloths in water after use and let them dry flat before disposing as they can spontaneously combust otherwise! The tin recommends two coats and you can apply the second coat after 3 hours. I'd recommend doing 3 or 4 coats, particularly if you've sanded the worktop back to bare wood, or in heavy use areas/by sinks. Pro tip: to get a marble smooth finish, sand the worktop back to bare wood and finish with 120 grit sanding along the grain. Then apply the oil as per instructions. Once it's dry, give it a very light resand with sandpaper above 120 grit (doesn't need to be super high grain), and then re-oil.
