OK so it does look a little cheap - but it is 1/2 half of very similar products on this site - and you can always connect your expensive voltmeter in parallel for a better reading. You are basically paying for the load resistor (in the heatsink you see) to load the car battery. It is very useful to take with you if you need to replace a failed battery under warranty and they try to "wiggle out" by testing it in such a way (i.e. not loaded) to say it is working perfectly! I would take the voltmeter too just in case. In my case - this device helped replace a battery so it is worth it (cheaper then a battery); it would not be worth paying 2x for a better one as that would be almost the price of a new battery thus why bother - might as well buy the new battery and be done with it.

It's bigger than I expected and made of solid Chinesium metal. It absolutely does the job and doubles as a toaster too as you can see from my photos. I've spent this week recovering a completely dead mobility scooter battery. The two 12v units were so dead that they would not even accept current at 30v. Just a tiny trickle of 30mA but that kept climbing. After some hours the 12v batterys were giving out 6v. I kept going. I also connected an Amazon desulficator. Thankfully they both deliver over 12v and although drop to 8v on test they are making it glow nice and bright. The scooter itself is still in a bit of a mood having not had power for 5 years, it's flashing the spanner at me. To test a 12v battery properly you've got to put a decent load on it and check the voltage whilst doing that. This wonder of Chinese technology does exactly that and you don't even need a Bluetooth app (joke, it's just a resistor, a gauge and some jump leads).

I have 4 x 12 volt batteries connected in series to produce 48 volt, they stopped producing sufficient power, by using this tester I quickly found that just one battery was dead and was able to replace it, I tested without having to disconnect the series connections, but had to ensure that the series connection was fully 'open circuit' this meant isolating the circuit and most important disconnecting the charger circuit

Looked to be very useful for home mechanic. Used the same principle as a much more expensive one I used years back. Unfortunately the unit had been damaged in transit.

Ordered for old friend who had only ever used very large devices for measuring current in the past. He was amazed at what this can do at such a small size.

Cheap and nasty, typical Chinese build quality. However, to be fair it's an amazing price and it works well enough to determine if the battery or charging system has a problem. Only really suited if you need to check your batteries a couple of times a year. Not suitable for every day use - so no good as a tradesman too.

The item arrived and looked the part, but is obviously yet another example of a poorly made Chinese product. As with the majority of Chinese made products the concept is good but they are constantly focused on meeting production throughput and ignoring assembly quality and assurance hence poor quality and high failure rates. With The item I received meter display was loose and appeared to be only held on by 1 screw out of 4 and looked like the others were over tightened and pulled through the mounting grommets during manufacture. There really is no excuse for this other than poor assembly. If you do purchase, either be ready to return your item or be prepared to have to immediately use the 3 year warranty and all the hassle that would entail or fix a brand new unit yourself.. In my view this item is a “purchase with caution”
