Great for lazy babies.
Not something I knew existed prior to the birth of my second child, I do not know why these aren’t recommended more often. A week into breastfeeding with cracked, bleeding nipples I was told that I had slightly small/flattish nipples and my baby had a lazy latch so we’d have to try harder (how much harder can you try?) or accept that formula was our best option.Cue finding these. Made feeding bearable whilst I repaired and baby is happy to use them. We are 9 weeks in now and our only issue is that baby still prefers these over the actual nipple and when offered the alternative will only try it for a few minutes before deciding it’s too much effort to latch. We will continue to wean him off the shield but we aren’t unhappy with the situation as baby is feeding well. These literally saved our breastfeeding journey. That is not to say they’re perfect as they can be a bit of a faff and there have been several instances where they’ve come off mid feed - this is mainly down to the fact that I don’t always have two hands free to attach the shield and so it is not fitted correctly prior to commencing feeding. Cleaning isn’t much of a problem - a teat brush is required and I would definitely make a note of the fact that it’s not something that can be used one handed and from time to time even two hands does not guarantee that the shield won’t pop off but overall they’re fairly decent and we haven’t had too many problems. There is the small issue of looking somewhat like a lactating dominatrix, but again you just get on with it.

Stays on when baby latches
Out of all the nipple shields I bought, I can finally say with confidence that this is the best one. I have the Medela sizes S and M, the Avent and this one. After about a week of nursing my newborn, it became incredibly painful whenever she latched on and for the first few minutes of nursing. Breastfeeding is supposed to be a bonding experience, not a painful one so instead of pumping and bottle feeding I decided to give these a try and I'm so glad I did. This one stays on with a little lanolin cream(unlike the Medela) and has a more baby-friendly shape where there is room for both the nose and the chin. Of course the first few times you may have to use your fingers to keep it in place but eventually you will get the hang of it. It comes with a box which came broken in the package, hence the 4 stars.

Work well
Really like the shape and stick of these shields. I've used 3 different brands (Medela and Boots) but these are by far my favourite ones. They made it so much easier to latch for my baby and stay well on the boob.

A godsend
Quite simply wouldn't have been able to breastfeed without these as my babies mouth was so small she couldn't latch to my larger breast and flat nipple. She's now a very heathly 3 month old and hasn't yet had a drop of anything other than my breastmilk all via these, we're just now at the point of weaning her away from them as she's big enough now. They are abit of a faff, particularly when you're out, getting them on and making sure baby doesn't knock it off etc. and I find baby does end up dribbling alot with them so I tuck a muslin under my breast to catch it but otherwise they're absolute lifesavers and no woman should be ashamed to use them. Thankfully my supply has never been affected but I know this isn't the case for some women.

Good but could be better
These were suggested to me from a breastfeeding specialist, and I was pleasantly surprised that my baby was able to latch straight away, probably because the nipple is similar to a bottle teat. However, I found they would not stay attached long enough for a good feed and I also found it quite painful when my baby sucked as the teat is so long it drags your nipple in. The sterilising box is very handy.

Saved my breastfeeding journey! Not just for sore nipples
EDIT: since writing the original review I was actually able to establish a proper latch with my baby and no longer needed to use the shields after about 2-3 weeks of use. I'd recommend starting your transition away from the shields by taking them off halfway through a feed every so often, and then just gradually decreasing the amount of time using them.Amazing things, my baby has been exclusively breastfed since about 6 weeks thanks to these shields!I never leave reviews but felt compelled to for these as they've singlehandedly enabled me to breastfeed! After struggling with latching since the birth of my baby (for no reason other than just incompatible breast/nipple shape) I bought these at my husbands suggestion and my baby latched immediately!I had all but abandoned hope of breastfeeding and was really defeated as we just hadn't seemed to make it happen (despite chatting with lactation consultants and midwives/health visitors) and baby was already 3 weeks old, but these shields provide a sufficient latching space for baby, and they aren't just for protecting sore nipples as I had thought so I'm over the moon. I know these are suggested for short term only, but in my case these are literally the difference between breastfeeding or not right now, so I'm happy to use them in combination with bottle feeding expressed milk during the day for the next little while as needed.I bought 2 extra pairs too so now I can feel confident to feed my baby during the night (so no having to warm a bottle of expressed milk at 4am!) or if we are out and about I have peace of mind that my baby has milk available if needed 💕

Ottimi
