CURT 13485 Class 3 Trailer Hitch for Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage

We bought this to put a young electric e-bike bike rack on the hitch. My husband installed it and he said it was pretty straight forward and easy. That being said, he's a mechanic. Awesome trailer hitch. Everything aligned perfectly with my car and all hardware was included.

Just like everyone else who left a review, the hitch did poke through the shipping box, but there was no harm done to the hitch or the finish, so there's that. Mounting this is a two-person or one-person-one-jack operation. The hardest part of the whole process was removing the "diffuser" on the SUV, is Kia have switched from using a small hex nut to a plastic splined nut. So I had to use needle nosed pliers to get them off. It was no big deal and, like I said before, that was the hardest part of the installation. For the rest, you'll probably have to get the two bottom-facing bolts in place and tighten them up before moving on. Otherwise, the side-facing bolt holes will not line-up. The instructions call for a torque wrench that can go to 48 ft-lbs. Use one. I also used Loctite 242 (242 and 243 both work fine) to help keep water out of the threads and prevent them from working out on their own. You probably won't need them, but I already had the threadlocker. Plus it helps lube the threads on the way in, making assembly easier. When done, the hitch is recessed from the bumper, so your backup sensors will still be accurate. That does mean some racks will end up being really close to the back of the vehicle. Load up your gear and give it a good shake before setting off on a road trip. For mountain bikes, absolutely make sure there's no way the handlebar will come within 2-3" of the rear window. Otherwise, invest in a hitch extension. Anyway, super easy to install. I didn't have to remove anything more than a piece of trim. No milling, drilling, or tapping of threads. Just wiggle it in place, bolt it on, and have a few celebratory beers.

Fit my 2023 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid perfectly. Easy installation. No specialty tools needed. Watching a quick video on YouTube made the install easy. I installed the unit in early 2023 and have had no issues since (~3years). Although, I only use it for attaching my bike rack and do not so any towing. Definitely worth doing yourself and save a few hundred $$ vs going to a shop for the install.

Fit my 2026 Kia Sportage X-Line. I haven’t towed with it yet but it is clearly a quality part. Installed by myself in a couple of hours but if you had help, could do it in 30 minutes. I spent most of the time trying to figure out how to raise the thing by myself. Ended up using a crate on one end to raise it up and my car jack to slowly lift the other side.

Took about an hour to install because I was stuborn and didn't ask for help. Once I had extra hands helping position it took no time. Lined up perfectly, bolts went in smoothly, the tapped bolt holes were in the frame from the factory. Screwdriver for plastic pins in trim piece, 14 mm socket for plastic bolts on trim piece, 17mm socket for hitch bolts, torque wrench (honestly if you're just using for accessories, bike rack, cargo carrier, etc, you probably can just use a good size rachet). The packaging protected the hitch and more importantly didn't allow for the box to be torn up. The hitch bar follows the body contour so you only see the hitch sticking out verus the bar hanging down. The "stealership" wanted $1400 to install, happy their greed made me look for an alternative.

The Curt hitch was delivered by Amazon nicely packed. A buddy came over with a torque wrench; a two man (or woman) team works best for this. There's no need for ramps; just a couple of packing blankets on the ground for padding, about an hour of work and it's done. There's one panel to remove permanently and another panel temporarily in order to fit the torque wrench on a bolt. There's no need to lower the muffler like some YouTube videos suggest; just lift one side over top. The hitch holes lined up perfectly with the pre-drilled holes on my 2024 Tucson. Once you have everything tightened up, the hitch is solid as a rock. The powder coat finish looks great. I had considered buying the Hyundai OEM hitch, but this is a lot less expensive and the 2" receiver is a lot more versatile for accessories than the 1-1/4" Hyundai hitch. I also bought the Curt wiring harness, which plugs right into the fitting you'll find lashed to the driver's rear quarterpanel. I don't work on cars anymore, but this is an easy job most anyone can do. I asked two Hyundai dealers and they wanted $1,100 to install their hitch and wiring versus less than $300 for the Curt hitch and harness; an easy decision.

This hitch fit pretty well on my 2025 Hyundai Tucson SEL. I installed it myself, did not have to lower the exhaust, but I did have to make a "minor adjustment" with a sledgehammer to get one of the holes to line up. I tried using a car jack and wooden blocks to align the holes, but one bolt would not thread in straight and I did not want to strip it. A little tap tap with the sledge was all that was needed to get the hitch to align up. Easy to get the torque wrench to tighten the bolts compared to my RAV4 which was almost impossible to get the torque wrench on the bolts. As for the hitch wiring harness, I will install the recommended factory harness for the 2025 Tucson SEL (CWF67-AC000) since I do not want to Hyundai to have any excuses to void my electrical system warranty. I just need to find a YT video on instructions on how to safely remove the cargo area rear quarter panel to get to the factory plug to install the harness.

Good solid quality. Well put together. Fit was precise & accurate. Instructions were clear & accurate, though pictures were a bit fuzzy... but it's a pretty simple install, so not critical. Install is pretty easy, and as others have said can be done handily without raising the car. Popping off the 'sacrificial' lower panel that has to go away to make room was easy, though I have a tool for those plastic panel fasteners. Probably still easy enough with improvised tools (putty knife? wide-bladed screwdriver?) The panel is going away, so not a big deal if it gets scratched. I have a creeper, which did make it easier/nicer to do. I didn't have a 2nd set of hands handy, but was able to lift it into place with a floor jack. Ended up not having to drop the exhaust: required a little 'finagling' the thing into place, but really not difficult. On the passenger side, having a 4" 'wobbler' extension for my torque wrench really helped - the exhaust sits right below it and getting a socket on the bolt 'straight up' woulda been tough-to-impossible. The alternate - tightening with a hand-wrench - would have been extremely tedious, and I'm not sure how you could torque it to spec anyway. Only downside is it was shipped 'rattling around' in a big box. The box arrived about half shredded with the item hanging out of it. Luckily the item itself was not damaged. But some packing material to keep it from banging around inside the box would be a nice addition. UPDATE: The original car with this receiver was rear-ended & totaled. I bought the same receiver again for the replacement car (same kind of car). Again, the fit was precise and install pretty easy... Unfortunately, again, it was shipped 'rattling around' in a box and this time it broke through the box a bit and got some pretty notable chips & scratches in places. I don't really care about the 'aesthetics' of that, but it seems a shame for a pretty nice paint/powder job to have areas of potential rust introduced by being chipped and scraped. I also feel bad for whoever's package it scraped up against! I left this a 5-star review first time (5 for the item, less for the shipping), and the receiver itself is great. But since 'rattle-can' shipping is still happening ~2 years later and caused real damage this time, I dropped it to 4-star overall.

Decently priced aftermarket tow kit and was no problem for install.
