Can this hold the weight of a records?

Yes, BUT the records may slide off. The holder is metal and solid. The weight of the books is used to keep the thing from tipping over, and it works well as long as there is enough heavy things ob the span of the metal part on the table. That said, the books are leaning over, and I can imagine that records could slide off the back and flat onto the table, if enough are placed on it. In summary, I think the holder can hold the weight of enough records to keep the thing upright. However more than that and they are likely to slide off.
