Second question , I do receive automated calls from my physician and a pharmacy , will these calls be blocked also or allowed to get through ?

They will be blocked unless you add the numbers to your list of not blocked numbers. This list is different than your contacts list and you should include everybody you wish to receive calls from.

Roy - The AT&T CL83207 has a call block button. When you are on a call and speaking to the caller, and you do not want to continue the call, you can press the CALL BLOCK button on the handset to end the call. Thank you for your interest!

JC - Here's the procedure on how to delete a Call Block entry. Using a cordless handset or the telephone base: 1. Press CALL BLOCK when it is not in use. 2. Press ▼CID to scroll to Block list, and then press MENU/SELECT. 3. Press MENU/SELECT to choose Review. 4. Press ▼CID to search for the desired entry in the block list. 5. When the desired entry displays, press MUTE/DELETE. The screen shows Delete entry?. 6. Press MENU/SELECT to confirm. The screen show Entry deleted, and the next entry displays. You cannot retrieve a deleted entry. Hope this helps. Thank you!

is it easy to temporarily turn off screen blocking, say for just a few hours while waiting for a particular call?

Yes you just hit screen block twice. The phone actually goes through verbal once plugged in besides the manual. You also can access all features from the phone itself. You do not have to work anything off the base once you set up voicemail answer off on play messages call block features phone book all this is on the handset 1 or two. The only con about this phone is a continuous beep until you hit answer message. It is to let you know you have them. If your screening calls, and you do wish Not to answer it will Beep until you touch it
