Oneida Air Systems Dust Collector & Cyclone Separator Kit w/ Clear Bucket, 2.5 Deluxe 5-Gal - Portable Cyclone Machine for Wet and Dry Shop Vacuums

I can’t believe how well this works! I wasn’t sure which size I should buy - and after much (way too much) deliberation, I went with the larger size. Setup is even easier than the instructions indicate. And everything fit perfectly into my old Rigid 5gal wet/dry vac. I also set up a Rockler 2.5” flexible hose to attach to the tool in use. All fit easily and perfectly. My only complaint about setup is that the hose from the unit to the vac is just a hair too short to allow me to stack the units on top of each other (want to build a rig to keep them stacked and out of the way). Ultimately - I wanted this to save on cleanup. And it tackled this task amazingly well! But more so it keeps ALL the dust out of the air (and subsequently my lungs!). The whole area feels and smells cleaner. And cleanup is now a 1 minute job - instead of the 30+ mins it used to be (AND sawdust doesn’t get literally EVERYWHERE!!). Not to mention: the vacuum bin is spotless!! Final note. Get the full setup with the translucent bucket. Sure - we all have 5gal buckets lying around - but being able to quickly see how fast it’s filling up is both handy (and gratifying if you like watching that sort of thing! 😉)

Small, big, and micro particles are collected with ease and the shop vac has nothing inside it! 100% worth the cost!

I got this after reading reviews, bot of the Oneida and of several competing products, one of which said the collector was useless so they went back to their original Oneida. I can't speak to the others, but this works just the way they say it will. It's wonderful to be able to mill out the back of some 2x8's (7 gallons of sawdust per two boards) and just watch the dust fall into the translucent bucket. My shop vac is also pulling more suction as a result of having a cleaner filter. UPDATE 1: Just about one year later and this is still a great addition to the tool collection. I have a friend with a central shop dust collection system which I envy, but... since I do most of my work out of the shop, this is the best solution for me. UPDATE 2: The lid clasp broke at one point and Oneida replaced it immediately for fee that was far below what I was expecting. They had amazing customer service.

This worked well for me when grinding down a concrete floor. It collected a lot of the fine dust. The wheel bracket attachment method to the collection canister is poor. The kit comes with some double side sticky tape to secure the wheel brackets. The drawing showed a flat land area on the wheel bracket that wasn't there in my kit. This didn't look very secure and was going to be trouble in the future. The instructions also suggested attaching the wheel brackets with 1/4 inch nuts and bolts which were not supplied. The bolt holes were already there on the wheel brackets. I ended up drilling the canister and securing the wheel brackets with 1/4 x 1/2 inch nuts and bolts and plain washers. There are 3 bolts holes per wheel bracket. Now the wheels won't fall off. As others have mentioned, the hoses tend to pull off but can be secured with user supplied hose clamps. I didn't do this as I wasn't moving my setup around much and I needed to flush out the hose at the end of each concrete grinding session.

I use this with a surface planer, and a jointer-planer, and I use it when cleaning up large piles of sawdust under the table saw. The suction, through a large Craftsman shop vac, is very good, and the device works well. It is portable and the perfect size for a small shop that can't accommodate a built-in vacuum system. For this particular unit, the problems relate to the packaging & assembly, and the quality of the plastic. My unit arrived missing one (essential) bolt, but had two extra washers; had I not had a spare 1/4-20x3/4" hex bolt, I woujld have either needed a trip to the hardware store, or to wait for a part to be sent to me during which time the unit would not have functioned. The instructions for fastening the caster mounts to the bucket were essentially useless, as was the accompanying illustration; I ended up using my own double-stick tape that was thinner, and allowed a much larger area for adherence. In terms of the lid, there DOES have to be a comprise between flexibility (for removal) and stiffness (to keep it from "sucking-in"); the lid cracked the first time I tried to remove it at an obvious stress-riser at the latch. Further, the gasket between lid and bucket is sticky enough (the upper surface, not the part that is supposed to be sticky) that prying the lid off is a real chore. I will try putting silicone grease around the bucket rim to see if this helps since suction, not friction, keeps the lid and bucket sealed. OVERALL: works well, is astoundingly expensive for a bucket and about six injection-molded plastic pieces (one of which has already broken), is made in America, and could be MUCH MUCH better with a little effort on the part of the Oneida company. I reviewed this product on the Oneida website and within an hour, received an email reply asking for which parts were missing or broken, and where to send the replacements which are now on the way. THIS is GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. And, with some fiddling, it was assembled into a product that works well.

Dust Deputy 2.5 Deluxe First review: During assembly, the unit is supplied with double-sided tape squares to keep the caster assembly fixed to the bucket. Time will tell how long that holds up, but getting the backing off was a lesson in near-futility. Getting them off the main backing (one contiguous sheet) was fine, and then applying them to the black plastic caster assembly. But then getting the second side (square) backing off each one was near impossible. The first side would come off the black plastic side without the backing releasing from the second side. Keep in mind that surface was clean. The backing shouldn't have more adhesion than the transfer tape itself. The tape is unmarked, and so I'm confident this was either (1) an engineering failure to select correct product or (2) a purchasing decision to go with cheaper supplier (e.g., non-3M quality controlled product). The other possibility is degradation over time or heat, but I doubt that. Oneida should identify the person in their organization that made this decision and have a serious talk about this quality control failure. The other design flaws seem to be the tabs that retain the cyclone to the bucket. There appears to be a very thin part here on either side of the tab that will almost certainly be the point of failure (FEA would reveal this given the torque being applied to the top of the cyclone by the hoses when in use). Now I understand trying to get a product to a certain price point, and perhaps the other metal ones would be of superior durability, but we'll see. It seems like they could have engineered a band clamp-type mechanism like for 55-gallon drum that would have superior sealing and durability... but hey, I'm just a patent attorney so what do I know. I hope when I get this together it works as well as others rave about it, and will post an updated review later. UPDATED REVIEW after 1+ year of use: I am downgrading my review after using the "Deluxe" product offering because the design flaws are just too much. First, the seal between the bucket and the cyclone doesn't work at all. Dust comes flying out unless the cyclone is perfectly balanced on top (i.e. no pulling force or pressure off center). That's not possible because the hose inlet is at the top, and comes out the side. That means the vacuum hose is often pulling down slightly, causing the bucket-cyclone assembly to not seal. If you have this unit mounted securely, then maybe it would be OK, but the "Deluxe" version is meant to be hooked up to a shop vac and literally pulled around on wheels. Mating these units together really needs a metal band clamp, like in the other versions of this product. The deluxe version is just a terrible incarnation of a proper cyclone system. Second, the wheels. The double-sided tape to hold the wheel assembly onto the bottom of the bucket is yet another poor (cheap) design. Either a dedicated base unit for the bucket to sit on, or some kind of band clamp. It should come as no surprise that long-term durability of tape is poor. One of three wheels is falling off constantly. So I had to use a little CA glue to adhere the caster to the bucket. Third: The hose diameters are way, way too small. Why shrink down the diameter on a shop vac for dust collection when throughput is critical? I don't know how much suction is lost as a result, but it's just another design flaw. And do you think they stay on the hard-right 90-degree adapters? No. The taper on them is so significant that the hose line pulls off easily. Did they bother to include any band clamps to hold them in place? Nope. And why such a hard 90-degree bend??? I mean, this is airflow 101, and goes to show how poorly executed this thing is. Fourth: The overall structural integrity of the cyclone is suspect. Other reviews show how it breaks, and I've been very careful to try and not put too much lateral load on the unit for fear that it will crack. In the end, I cannot recommend this product and would not buy it again at the price they're asking. It needs a complete redesign with the end-user in mind about how it will actually be used, not a dumbed-down toy version of a real system.

This is the third Dust Deputy I have purchased, and I upgraded one of my older ones to the larger 2.5 size system. I have not changed the air filter in my shop vac or needed to replace the bag in my dust extractors for years. With these cyclones, there is not a loss in suction as the filters and bags do not get filled. I am particularly excited about this newest one, which has a translucent bucket, so that I can see when the container is getting full. On my other ones, I have to intermittently check, and this should make it much easier to use. I did go to the big box store, that uses orange and white in its branding, and purchased some replacement stemmed caster wheels. They sell these as replacements for office chairs, but they fit perfectly in the base of this unit, and these replacement wheels are larger, and I think of a better quality, than what is supplied with the unit. I think they should make it easier to move the container around in my shop, and the 3 inch wheels should be able to go over extension cords that might be on the floor. I think these new wheels were a worthwhile upgrade, and I think it was about $29 for five wheels (only needing to use four, however). These wheels are very similar to rollerblade wheels. I think these Oneida Dust Deputy systems have paid for themselves in what I save in not having to buy replaceable air filters and dust bags. The last time I checked my German tool company, dust extractor, I couldn’t see that there was any dust in the bag, and I have been using it for 3–4 years.

I'm a huge DIY type of guy and when I saw the price on most of these systems, I was absolutely not going to do it. Instead, I bought a couple of buckets and some plumbing parts and try to make my own following YouTube advice that they seem to have good success with. At the end of the day, I wasted all that time effort and money and I should've just bought this product. Absolutely works flawlessly and helps keep my shop vac (originally) and now dust collector as clean as a whistle. Could not be happier and would absolutely recommend to everyone. I love the design and the increased suction power because it keeps my filters clean. The product seems to be made durably. If I had one knock is that the maneuverability isn't great if you're attaching it to a shop vac but if you're using it with a dust collector, you will absolutely have no issues

Pricy for what is essentially mostly a plastic bucket but works great. It traps the vast majority of the dust in the bucket (which is really easy to empty), I do recommend this product, it sets up in minutes and has been working flawlessly since I got it. (I plugged a small shopvac when using the saw bench and other misc tools, shop vac not needed if used with a Dewalt planner)

Small space so this is a perfect set up for my workshop. Has great capacity and compatibility with shop vac. Easy set up.
