Notes on Grief
This is a touching autobiographical account of the undulations of the grief Chimamanda finds herself wading through when her father dies during the early days of the pandemic. The “stages of grief” are visible to those familiar with them, and her pain palpable from her poignant prose. As someone who experienced their first, profound, significant bereavement only six months ago, this short essay resonates deeply. The old adage that you must have experienced it to fully understand is undoubtedly true here.As a healthcare educator, this is a book I intend to utilise in my teachings on the grief experience. It is a quick read in uncomplicated language, but it’s impact will last significantly longer with me.

Notes on Grief
In this short essay, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie shares her feelings about the loss of her father and captures all the best memories she had of him, which was very uplifting for me. She took heart from remembering all those little things he did and said over the years.I, too, lost my wife and companion of over thirty years in April 2020 and can identify with many things she talks about, including the grief and dealing with condolences. The laughter from remembering some of the things she did in life and, of course, the pandemic restrictions that made planning her sending off so difficult. This work is a well-written, honest, and personal sharing of her experience dealing with her loss.

Heartbeat
The pain of losing a father in a heartbeat. Realistic and beautifully reflects the pain - another superb book from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Relates to grief and closure that one cannot have with family in parents homeland tragedy’s due to travel restrictions - covid pandemic. Written so beautifully that one can relate to in other times as in the end it’s the loss of a beloved father…

Raw and Authentic
I could feel the personal and individual parts of grief that can only come from the one who knows. It is different from any other book on grief I have read as it helped me understand that I cannot dress rehearse for it.

wonderful
One of the best lectures about grieving. It’s sad, hard, and real, but when you are fighting with Grieving, you don’t need fake words, fake fair stories about death. You need to feel that someone in the world is feeling the same heartless as yours, with no gentle lies.

Visceral, raw, heartbreaking, real
Each of us, deep in grief, is utterly alone. And in western cultures, there are few customs, rituals, ceremonies that make it possible for people to come close to the grieving one. "I'm sorry for your loss." Ubiquity makes these words impersonal, yet they're all that many people feel comfortable saying.Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has, with her extraordinary gift, found words to express the inexpressible, the incomprehensible and yes, the echoing bottomless, fathomless nature of grief.A masterpiece of silence and wailing and disbelief, from her soul to the soul of the reader.
