Great!!
This may is amazing. Life saver!! We live on the second story and taking a puppy out to use the bathroom was not the easiest or fastest. PROTIP: use puppy pads in between the grass and the plastic mat

Itโs permeable.
In response to frustrated reviewers and to those considering buying thisโฆ (Iโm not paid, Iโm a regular customer like you). I know this is a long review, sorry, but these tips are very helpful based on my own experience. Thank you to other reviewers for helping me learn what and what not to do. This โgrassโ is NOT absorbent, look at the pictures in the ad. I intentionally wanted permeable, (after reading the reviews), so that I can use potty pads underneath for the ease of cleaning. Yeah I gotta buy the pads regularly, the cost of convenience, but I donโt mind cuz itโs easier than what other reviewers have stated theyโve gone through. Gotta pick my battles. I live in a 3 story apartment, so when Iโm not feeling well or just not wanting to hike the stairs, Iโll have the dogs potty on the โgrassโ (and pads) on my patio. I replace the pads often and pick up the poo right away, (of course the poo will stick if not picked up right away. LOL ). Other reviewers have complained that their dogs wonโt use this โgrassโ cuz their dogs โarenโt stupid and canโt be fooled.โ Goodness, thatโs a given. This โgrassโ IS a different feel, it IS fake, it DOES LOOK fake, and, yes, your dog WILL respond to it differently than they do to natural grass. This stuff is artificialโฆ It takes patient training and time to TEACH your dog to use it. TRAINING: What I do to trainโฆ when I know my dogโs gotta go, Iโll stay nearby, encouraging it to WILLINGLY, not forcingingly, merely step on the โgrassโ by luring with treats and praise. I initially donโt expect my dog to stay on it long, much less potty on it. I follow up with praise and treats every time they do step on it. Iโll repeat this every time they gotta potty until the dog learns it pleases me to be on it. I wonโt take them to natural grass, leaving them no choice but to eventually potty on the โgrass.โ If I have to, cuz the dog wonโt potty on it, Iโll leave the potty area with the dog to mentally โresetโ myself and the dog for a few minutes, then try again, repeating until successful. (POSITIVE ASSOCIATION is imperative)! Initially, my dog would potty next to it instead of on it, so I would KINDLY pick him up mid stream and put him on the โgrassโ while constantly praising him as heโs going. (They canโt stop once they start, so this works LOL). When he DOES go potty on it, even if I have to place him on it, I will give EXCESS praise as heโs going and then LOTS of treats after heโs finished. (I buy freeze-dried treats - most dogs cannot refuse liver! They make beef liver, chicken liver, pork liver, salmon, beef liver with pumpkin, etc. Freeze-dried is WAY healthier, itโs only one ingredient, so it does not upset my dogโs sensitive tummy - no stinky farts LOL. You cannot find these awesome treats at Walmart, you gotta go to a pet store, but itโs so worth it! I take the time to use scissors to break them into bit-size pieces - itโs one of my relaxing mindfulness activities). Anyway, NEVER EVER get mad or frustrated with your dog or itโll associate being in trouble with being on the โgrassโ and then youโll never have success! Repeat this process every time you want them to potty on the โgrass.โ Once they figure out what you want, itโll eventually feel more โnormalโ to your dog. Even though my dogs have figured it out after a couple weeks, I still praise and treat every time cuz itโs NOT real grass, itโs not natural for them to potty on it. My dogs are still getting used to it, but theyโre starting to use it more readily. This takes time! Be patient with them! Remember, dogs only wanna please you, so give them time to figure out what you want from them, then theyโll be more willing to do what you want. This applies to everything you want them to do - sit, stay, etc. (This even applies to children). After only a couple times of urinating on the โgrass,โ Iโll replace the pads, but I keep it outside. If I used this thing inside my home, Iโd replace the pads every time cuz I HATE the smell of urine! Using pads replaces the work of cleaning the entire setup - thatโs just too much work and itโs gross! I rarely have to clean/rinse the โgrassโ itself cuz itโs permeable and the pads take the brunt. My dogs wonโt use the โgrassโ if the pads underneath are overused - I wouldnโt either if I had to pee on this thing. (Yes, the โgrassโ is very thin, itโs permeable)! Iโve not had trouble with the โgrassโ shedding or from an initial/brand new odor, not from this brand anyway. I have two different sizes cuz I had to figure out the right size. My boys are both 17 lbs, I will be buying another large size to give them more space. For large dogs, I recommend using 2-3 large โgrassโ setups placed next to each other like mine are - refer to my pix. Remember to keep the included plastic bottom under the pads. In my picks, I have one medium and one large setup. I keep a tightly closed trash bag inside a lidded trash can to manage the odor. I replace the trash bag when necessary. I use regular poo bags to pick up the poo. Again, Iโm sorry for this long review, but I find it necessary to help you understand how to use this product properly. I spent a lot of time writing this review, BTW, to make sure itโs right. I hope this helps. Enjoy the convenience.

I donโt mind the product.
We just got a 3 month old puppy and we live in a condo. We live on top of someone, so we have a deck. We were tired to walking her down the stairs every minute, so we bought about 5 of these to place together. She picked up really fast with them instantly and having more made her feel more like sheโs outside. We got the 4 layer at first just to try out and honestly the smell stuck more with the potty pad underneath it, it comes with. So, We ended up just doing the 3 layer and thatโs been better with smell wise. I just clean them once a week with dawn soap and water, then lightly spray with pet odor lysol. I let it sit for about 30 minutes before she goes back on them. I found putting regular potty pads under the grass helped more with less smell sticking to her paws, clean up easier and smell in general. Letโs be real, regardless there is going to be a smell with using artificial grass and a tray. Sucks having to clean once a week but beats the stairs every hour and winter time. I tried the dog potty grass that were tiles and those held more odor and less drainage than these trays. My puppy did try to bite at the grass and it didnโt really fall off that much. Obviously have to watch a puppy constantly and now she knows that is not what it is meant for. I would definitely recommend this product and just use regular potty pads in the tray vs the one it comes with. Just clean once a week and pet odor lysol which is pet safe, just let it set for about 30 mins. I do wish they had replaceable grass in stock since others i bought didnโt have good drainage and too big. I also wish they had larger trays because sometimes my dog will line up perfectly with the crack of the cracks and pee between, so we have potty pads underneath the trays in the crack.

Difficult to clean. Tip: place potty pads under grass.
It looks nice and itโs a good training tool, absolutely. It fits on my patio well, but Iโm always going down to the dog park thatโs part of my complex. My 3 month old puppy has been using it consistently. I will say, itโs not as easy to clean as I had hoped. Without a hose outside or a bathtub especially. I would suggest getting some potty pads and laying them under the grass part to help soak up the urine so itโs easier to clean. I have to clean mine daily and if you donโt use the potty pads then there will be a standing puddle on the base that you have to dump out somewhere or soak up with paper towels. It smells horrible. Iโve then been taking it into my shower and using a scrub brush, hot water, and soap to scrub each piece. Lastly, I am now noticing after a couple weeks of use that the smell is very very difficult to get out of the grass. I came back on here to see if thereโs a special solution that would help to clean it or if I should find some replacement grass.

Lessons Learned with indoor potty
Ok so I have now had this for 1 year and I love it, that being said here is what I learned: 1. You still need to potty train your dog, you can use a scent attraction spray to get them to like it and once they pee on it the first time give them a ton of treats and praise for going there. 2. The Costco potty pads fit perfectly underneath this one for easy daily or every few days clean up 3. Get an artificial grass cleaner to deep clean it, simple green is the best. (This gets rid of all smells, bacteria, etc) 4. This system still requires a level of work on your end but it is super convenient when you need them to go inside. 5. The large is perfect for my 8lb Yorkie, any other size larger dog itโs going to be small. 6. Clean this with dawn dish soap often and then once a quarter clean it with the artificial grass cleaner for no smell at all.

DO NOT BUY
DO NOT BUY! Absolutely awful product. The design does not allow the pee to drain so the pee will just sit on the grass and gets the puppy so dirty everytime they use it. Smells so bad even after cleaning it and my puppy started scratching at the edges right away causing it to break down. Buy a turf pad that has a hemmed edge instead. Waste of money.

My dog uses it.
But not the way the design is intended. The plastic base is sturdy and good at containing the urine. It's easy for my dog to step onto the pad. But I saw no use for the insert that goes under the pad. It just made it a little bit slippery to use. Plus I don't feel like having to clean up one more thing. I just put the absorbent puppy pads under the green fake grass. It does a great job absorbing what she pees in the night time. It took her about 3 months to get accustomed to changing her routine from peeing on newspapers with puppy pads under them to only using the fake grass. I have looked at other designs for the same type of product online and to tell you the truth; for the price this design works perfectly why pay more for something that's just got more bells and whistles.

Works great if your dog knows what it's for...
Otherwise, it's going to be a weird house ornament that sits in the corner. I picked up some "Go-Here" spray and all that made my animals (dog and cat) do was roll around on this to cover themselves in the scent, then ignore it. So it's not for all dogs. If they get the idea then awesome! Otherwise, they'll wonder why you got it and so will you.
