The noise at the outlet was 73db. Installed the silencer about halfway in line. Noise dropped to 63db (almost half audible). Unfortunately, air flow reduced by 10% - in my system went down from 3.0 m/s (85 m³/h) to 2.7 m/s (76 m³/h). Note that my RAM is rated at 517 m³/h, and the real life readings are due to multiple filters restricting. The airflow is just about enough for two people. Review: Beautifully made but sadly duct ports are oversize. - Beautifully built and finished but there is a huge flaw to this product. I have the 150mm version but have discovered that both inlet and outlet ports are oversize preventing me from using the two brands of ducting that I have on site. This is part of an air extractor system in a building so I need a long term installation so don't want to use pvc ducting and am sticking to aluminium. The ports are not oversize by much, measured today at 151.5mm but this makes it impossible to use aluminium duct and plastic fittings do not fit the internal diameter due to the generous thickness of the steel used in manufacture. Strangely I also have their excellent 150mm duct fan and that is a true 150mm and installed without issue. To avoid having to abandon the job I have boiled the ends of two plastic elbow fittings in a pan of water and sweated them into the silencer ports. It was a lot of work and alsonneed securing by rivets and in theory at least the modified fittings will reduce ny airflow a little. I ultimately returned the one before the fan because the improvement was relatively minor. **Q: Can you connect these mufflers in series? And what impact does that have? e.g. one reduces 50% two reduces 75% ... and so forth?** A: I don’t think they can be used end to end but you can put one on either side of the fan and that should reduce the sound.... or if you’d like you can put one directly against the fan and then add another one at the end of a duct as well. I can’t give you any specific numbers though. **Q: Can I simple insert this silencer (not fan) before my output in my home music studio?** A: The openings on each side is 4" in diameter. I'm not sure exactly what your affixing this to but if it's similar to any duct opening you'll need a clamp or coupler.
