Micca 4K Ultra-HD USB and microSD Media Player, 4K HDMI, Digital Signage

I've been streaming HEVC video over WiFi from a shared network PC drive to a Fire Stick 4k Max using VLC Media Player app. Using 5GHz WiFi band, my WiFi is fast with good streams on all services. The Fire Stick often stutters or stops on any files over 1 GB streaming from the a shared network drive on my PC. Research shows the new Fire Stick lacks the processing power needed for decoding larger HEVC files. This little Micca device is golden. It plays even the largest HEVC and all formats I've tried with never a hang up, no buffering, or stutter. It plays them all perfectly with great HD quality. It won't stream from my network drive of course, so you have to write the files to a USB drive and plug the drive into the Micca. I use the Buffalo 2TB SSD-PUT, formatted NTFS. The Micca has a small remote about the size on the Fire Stick remote. Better is that all remote buttons are for the Micca player only, so you can't accidently press one that sends you into limbo like what happens on the Fire Stick remote while trying to pause a video. So aggravating... The only aggravating bug the Micca has is sometimes when trying to click/rewind a scene back 10 secs. That only works intermittently. The Firestick using the VLC app does not have this problem. The Firestick remote also controls TV on/off and volume, the Micca does not. After getting very used to both methods of playing/streaming downloaded files of various formats and sizes, I've switched to only using the Micca as the better choice because of its smooth flawless playback on anything and everything. You can work around the few bugs it has, whereas you cannot work around the Fire Stick 4k Max not being robust enough to play the larger size files, and/or unknown WiFi glitches. The Micca Speck 4k-Ultra also has the added bonus of letting you delete a file that you have watched. That saves you from having to take the flash drive to a PC to delete a watched file. When ordering the Micca Speck 4k-Ultra, keep in mind that it does not come with an HDMI cable. If you have an extra, you're fine. I had to borrow one from something else and then ordered the Amazon 8k deluxe cable. You will need two AAA batteries for the remote. Also, after getting used to the Fire Stick remote which is mostly Bluetooth, I didn't like having to point the Micca remote directly at the little box. Even when pointing it in the general direction, buttons didn't seem to work on first press. The solution to this, is a much more sensitive remote I/R sensor that plugs into the Micca box and has a 10 foot cable allowing you to place it anywhere. It is ten times more sensitive now, and you don't have to point the Micca remote because the sensor will pick up signals reflected from surrounding areas. I've changed this review several times, only because I want people to know I've tried many methods and devices for playing and streaming downloaded video files of various sizes and formats, and the new Micca Speck 4k-Ultra is the best method so far. Item came well packaged and was surprisingly small. It works fine right out of the box. Plugged in portable hard drive with videos on it and it lists and plays them very well and when you pause it stays that way until you come back. I love it!! Audio seem a bit low so make sure your source is turned up quite high and then it does well .

I originally gave this device a great review. I've tried a few of them over the years and other than my original 20-year-old Western Digital, I couldn't find anything that played all of my file types and would read a 1 to 2 TB hard drive. This one seem to fit the bill. I don't use it very often, it's more of a backup. I have some lectures on there that I wanted to watch. I started one earlier and it was working fine. I left came back and when I turned it on it literally takes 5 minutes or more to launch the home screen and it won't read my hard drive anymore. I've unplugged it and plugged it back in, both the hard drive and the device, several times. I tried the hard drive on my computer just to make sure that the cord was fine and it's working great. When I plug it in, the light on the hard drive comes on so I know it's getting power from the usb. When I try to look at any files on it, though, it says that I need to plug in a storage device. I only got about seven uses out of it before it went belly up. I can watch my videos on the computer but it's a lot easier to see on a tv. I can stream from the computer to the TV but it's a pain in the ass. I originally hoped my Roku device would do it but it can't handle the file types. I think there might have been a problem with the size of the hard drive as well but I can't remember. Anyway, it will play just about anything you throw at it. It just won't hold up to more than seven or eight uses. Very disappointed.

This works as described. Plays everything I have in all different formats. I used this to replace a BluRay player I used to play movies from an external hard drive. I'm using NTFS for the external 1 TB drive. The only thing I don't like about it is that when the unit is turned off the drive does not turn off also, instead the drive activity light slowly flashes about one a second, I think this is some sort of 'standby mode' the units puts the drive in. The units needs an automatic shut off for the drive when the unit is turned off. If you disconnect the drive in this state, then plug it into a Windows 10/11 computer it comes up telling the drive has a problem and gives the option to fix it then something with the drive got 'corrupted'. If you let windows fix it then look at the drive you will find a 'LOST.DIR' folder. The 'LOST.DIR' is a directory created by the file system to store files that have been lost or corrupted but the 'LOST.DIR' is empty . So there is a 'corruption' of, in this case a NTFS, drive if the unit is powered down and the drive removed and this also happens if the power is removed from the unit before removing the drive. This means the unit is continually accessing the drive even when its powered off, even in that 1 second activity light flash time in a standby mode. Its safe to delete this 'LOST.DIR', its not a serious actual corruption problem but the fact that the folder is empty indicates something was not recognized as normal for the NTFS file system and that's probably because, it seems, the unit is using an Android based operating system as this is a folder that Android will create and hide on android devices. Other than this issue ... it works fine and does whats advertised, and I like it. But on the drive issue above it could stand a little improvement.

So far I’ve been extremely happy with this device. It freed up my computer from Halloween videos. Small and compact to take outside for wall show.

I like the fact the player is small and can be mounted with double sided tape to easily conceal it. It's easy to use and has ports for a micro sd card and usb. I tried it with a 4tb hard drive and it worked easily. I did notice it does take a little long to load up once its on, it take a bit to scroll through files and can freeze for a second as you try to go onto a different file and the remote, at least for me, has to be close for the player to respond. I tried new batteries and it still had to be semi close to work. I noticed the player will only play what is in a folder. So if you have your seasons separated by folders you will have to scroll back, click the next season folder and start playing the next season. Best advice is create a new folder with all your seasons sepearated and titled in order correctly to binge watch anything you may have. Other than that, it plays flawlessly, plays every file with no issue or freezing, has options to shuffle play and repeat or straight play and stop. Very simple to use and auto detects files.

This does not stream, you can't load apps. It's not fancy and does not have any bells or whistles. What it does do is THE ONE THING I need it to do; play media files from an external/usb drive. I've tried a lot of different ways of getting there, a bunch of other (often times much more expensive) devices that do all of the other things but not the one thing I want or, they do it so poorly as to have been a total waste of money. Here is what it is - a tiny box that you can connect up to 2 USB drives to (at a maximum of 8TB each, which is amazing), and/or a micro SD. You then can connect to your TV via an HDMI cable (the simplest way to get audio and video, or through older style av hook ups. The remote is simple and the menu is composed of 4 options (clean and easy). So far, I have tried out a number of file types and have not had an issue with any standard video format (avi, MP4, MKV, etc.), it even managed to find non-embedded subtitle files. Everything has worked great, menus and files are large enough to read at a distance (one of the other issues I had with other devices) and navigation is simple and intuitive. I have not experienced any lag at all when sorting though some pretty big drives and playing large files (up to 4k). I really did not expect this to perform well but I had run through most other options, and now I could not be happier. Works great, does exactly what I want/need, great price, Just wish I had found it 2 years and probably $500 ago.

As close as you can get to the usability of a DVD / Blu-ray player. Apple Mac friendly. Functions very much like a DVD player. So many media players don't give you good controls. The remote that comes with this unit is very similar to what you'd find with an optical disc player. I still use optical discs, but this is nice for Travel traveling. This is the only electronic gadget I have ever failed to open. I wanted to open it up so I could look and see if a heat sink could be added to one of the main chips. I couldn't get it open without destroying the case. This is NOT a criticism. It's me. I actually have a T-shirt with a picture of a screwdriver on it. That says "I Void Warranties". No problem with using MP4 files from an Apple Mac. I simply format the media for Windows (All Macs can do this easily). This is a good device.

Funziona molto bene, risolve problemi di collegamento dispositivi USB con TV (soprattutto con dischi esterni) e permette di vedere tutte le principali tipologie di file. Utilissima funzio e resume che permette di riprendere visione dall'ultimo punto visto.

Werkt perfect met alles wat je er in stopt. Match in de instellingen bij 4k bestanden vooral de output framerate met de framerate van het bestand dan loopt alles vloeiend, anders kunnen er kleine haperingen zijn. Met name de ondertitels zijn erg belangrijk en die werken in alle situaties die ik tot nu toe ben tegengekomen en dat was bij andere producten helaas anders.

Macht bisher was es soll. Wird n bisschen warm, steht aber drauf, dass es normal sei. Festplatte von 4TB angeschlossen und läuft super, schneller Zugriff auf die Dateien, einige Verzeichnisse werden sogar als Bilder angezeigt. Man kann in den Filmdateien gut hin und herspringen ohne grosses Warten. Knackpunkt bei uns sind aber die 4K Sachen. Und die bringt er gut auf den TV, der kein 4K ist. Wir haben noch einen anderen Monitor, da sieht es genauso aus. Da er kleiner ist, kann ich es nicht so beurteilen. Aber der TV hat vorher keine 4K Filmdateien zugelassen, oder manchmal ging der Ton nicht, hier mit dem Micca Teil, kein Problem mehr. Günstigere Alternative zu einem neuen TV :) Kabel sind dabei, nur eben keine Batterien für die Fernbedienung, steht aber dabei. Sind 2 AAA Batterien/Akkus die da reinpassen.
