Good game

I bought this, because it won BoardGameGeek's 1st place award for artwork this year. It definitely lives up to that with artwork inspired by the style of Azulejo Tiles. It's a relatively big game which takes up a lot of space, and the money counters are bizarre which I will probably replace with coins at some point. Those are its only two downsides. The rules are well laid out with plenty of examples which are summarized well in the player aids. In play, I found it to be a complex, but entertaining game in which players compete for prestige(Whigs) by rebuilding Lisbon after the earthquake of 1755. During the game, each player represents a merchant family. In the process of rebuilding Lisbon, the players will have to find the money through trade to build and interact with the courts of the King, the Prime Minister, and the Master builder to secure the permits, blueprints, and decrees required to win. There are economic factors and the church that come into play during the game. While players get scored for the buildings that they build and where they build them during the game, the end of game scoring adds several other items including money, influence, decrees satisfied, and rubble cleared which opens the game up to more paths to victory than primarily real estate acquisition.

The game is too good But to bring such a heavy product without a single cushion? Maybe a crumpled piece of paper.

A wonderful game. We recommend it most highly. I am glad we spent the extra money for the deluxe version. In addition to some more attractive pieces, the deluxe version gives you the ability to change the layout of downtown so Lisboa stays fresh and different each time. My only complaint is that it takes forever to set it up, and when our friends go home it takes forever to pack it away. I guess set up should be a group project with everybody helping. That's why I subtracted half a star. We use the Viticulture coins along with some Roman coins I bought for Concordia because the coins that come with Lisboa are ludicrous. But it's not important. Just buy some nice metal game coins that can be used with various games. I highly recommend Larry Schneider's Lisboa: Nice and Slow on You Tube.

A top-quality game from a world-class game designer. If you enjoy heavy euro-style games, I highly recommend this one. (emphasis on heavy, though. It will take a while to learn the rules)

Super thematic.....very complex....good solo mode....a colllectors item....beautiful....for those who relish steep learning ....it has an introductory card system...
