Could this potentially be wrapped around a long acrylic fingernail and work?

if you place it upon the finger nail, it would work, bit you would need to touch the screen with this pad. so you would touch the screen, not with the pads of your finger but the nail aide...maybe a bit awkward.

Are these water proof?

I haven’t got them wet, but after they’ve been on the glove fingertips for a few days, it seems as if they should hold.

I wear thick shearling gloves, do you think they will work?

The thickness of the gloves doesn't matter. Assuming you mean a glove with a leather exterior, you should be fine. I have used them on several kinds of leather - the smoother the texture the longer they "stickers" will stay on, but even with rough suede like surface they still last pretty well.
