I will not want to buy a China made cookware for any price.** A: Made in China **Q: what are the instructions to season the pan before use?** A: Mine came seasoned. Just washed it and then used some cooking spray once I warmed it up the first time. **Q: Why is it 1000 watts?** A: I never noticed that. It's a stove top waffle iron so maybe that's their way of telling you to keep it on medium heat. It doesn't use any wattage at all. First off, it works great. The iron needs some basic initial care (seasoning) like any piece of cast iron. After that waffles come out easily and taste great. The long handles don't heat up at all and are easy to use. They unscrew for seasoning in the oven. Making waffles with this is much more hands on than a traditional plug in waffle iron. You need to set timers and flip the iron after a couple minutes. It's a bit of a hassle, but worth it to know the irons are non toxic. I would love to find a cast iron plug in waffle iron but as far as I know no one makes them. In the meantime this works great.
