I can't attest as to just how effective the waterproofing is as I sprayed mine with some grangers repel spray I bought on desertcart at the same time and it made it able to stay dry inside even in heavy rain, I believe without such waterproof spray it would be fine in a light shower but in a long heavy shower of rain it may get a little damp inside otherwise. Its a very good rucksack in its own right but the added separate part for a laptop makes this even better and the price is very good, well worth the money spent on it. The back part would probably fit in two wide laptops, it certainly fits on in a protective case, and the upper front pouch above the insulated section fits a kindle paperwhite in easily so you could use this to carry a kindle a laptop a tablet and even shopping all at the same time.
