Great for cat clean-up
I ordered this corded handheld vacuum because I gave up on finding a battery operated pet vac that has sufficient suction to actually pick up cat litter and fur. This vacuum has serious suction, and the long cord allows you to cover a lot of area. Unlike other handheld vacuums I've tried, the Scorpion is intelligently designed: when you separate the compartment with the debris, the debris stays contained in the compartment because the filter and piece of plastic to which it is attached seal the compartment. You pull out that plastic piece from the separated compartment to release the debris into the trash bag. It's really a pleasure not to have the debris go flying all over the place when you push the compartment release button. Also, the release button WORKS. You don't have to fiddle with it or keep pushing the button while yanking the compartment to try to disconnect it. For cat cleanup, I use the built-in crevice tool. After many, many uses, I've had to use a knife or a pick to gently dislodge sticky stuff from the end of the crevice tool or at the top of the filter. A decrease in suction will indicate that you need to clear out whatever is impeding the air flow. The debris compartment is easy to clean with soap and water and a toothbrush. I ordered replacement filters so I can rinse one and pop in another while the first one dries, though I did follow the suggestion of another user who said she wrapped a piece of paper towel around the filter (secure with a small piece of masking tape) and then just throws out the paper towel with the debris, leaving a clean filter that you can again cover with another piece of paper towel. The vac will overheat if you use it for an extended period, say, more than four or five minutes, but it isn't built to be used for extended periods. If it does overheat, it will work again once it has cooled down. Strange that when I went searching for pet vacs, Dirt Devil vacuums simply didn't come up, not even in the Amazon site. I remembered that I loved Dirt Devils that I used years ago and decided to search for those. That's when I found the Scorpion. So glad I did. It beats every other pet vac I've tried, and it's so reasonably priced for the quality product you get.

great suction
Back in Aug 2011, I bought the Dirt Devil 0871X Scorpion Quick-Flip Handheld Vacuum Cleaner and Inflator from Menards. It's essentially the same as this SD20005RED Scorpion Quick Flip Corded Bagless Handheld Vacuum in that both are rated for 7A. Fast forward to 2016 - My 0871X is still working great. Well, except that the hinge of the flip-up crevice tool is broken so I have to keep the crevice tool always attached. I use my handheld vac very very frequently. It's heavy. It rolls over when I leave it on a surface and sometimes I drop it, hence, the broken hinge. But, I love its suction power and I needed one more handheld vac that's as powerful as it is. So, I bought the SD20005RED when Amazon Warehouse Deals had it on sale Sep 2016 (< $10, Yay!!!). Both the 0871X and SD20005RED operate on 7A so suction is great on both. It was a pleasant surprise to find that the SD20005RED is lighter than my 0871X. That is a very big deal to me because I use my handheld vac to clean window valances/drapes and spots on the walls and ceiling. The 0871X weighs 4.1 lbs while the SD20005RED weighs 3.4 lbs. Depending on how strong your arms or hands are, however, this vac may still be too heavy for some. My parents, who are in their 80s, consider this vac heavy... and loud. Yes, it's loud but so are all my other vacs. I'm not using this vac for hours. A few minutes of loud noise is not a deal breaker for me. The vent holes (exhaust holes, not sure what the industry calls them) on the SD20005RED are on the left and right sides. I don't find that to be a problem although some people don't like the warm exhaust air blowing on them. On the 0871X, the single round vent hole is at the back with a filter. I like the 0871X design better when it comes to the vent hole location and feature to accommodate a filter. The filter cleans the exhaust air more. There is actually a lot of dirt in that exhaust air. I cut out hammock filter pads (True Blue HPE30621.4) and use them as disposable filters on the back on my 0871X. They come out super dark gray at the end of the month. Both the 0871X and the SD20005RED come with an attachment brush and an extension hose. The attachment brush is very useful when I'm cleaning furnitures, upholstery and window valances/drapes. I like the fact that the crevice tool is permanently attached and I only need to flip it down and push to use it instead of carrying a separate crevice attachment with me while I'm cleaning. I like that the 0871X and SD20005RED are basically the same because I didn't have to buy a separate set of spare filters. The power switch button on the SD20005RED is easier to push than the power switch on my 0871X. On the SD20005RED, the power switch has a raised front end which makes it easier to push forwards. The 0871X power switch doesn't have that raised front end. When pushing back to turn the vac off, however, there are only 3 raised lines for your finger to "grip". I have to press my finger down slightly harder for a better "grip" to push it back. When it comes to cleaning the filter, I follow the same protocol that I do with my 0871X. I cover the filter with a paper towel so that most of the dirt are on the towel. When I remove the dust cup and pull off the filter over a trash can, the paper towel (covered with a thick layer of dirt/dust) easily slides off the filter. Weird me feels a great deal of satisfaction seeing that pre-formed dirt/dust cup falling of the filter. The filter itself is not so dirty. I just replace the paper towel and put the paper towel-covered filter back into the dust cup. After several months, I switch the filter with my spare filter and wash the dirty filter. As for dealing with the cord during storage, I use a cable clamp to clamp the coiled cord on to the vac handle: https://www.amazon.com/Worldwide-All-Purpose-Cable-SW-0990-UE-012/dp/B000GATGYK/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

A good deal with the price
Got it for couple of days, use it 4-5 times, so far so good. It works fine. Suction is good, but it is noisy and gets hot really quick. Also the extension hose got clogged easily if sucked a big pile of dust (not super large, like a size of a thumb). Especially using with the brush, high change to get stuck. Easy to clean the hose with water but need to wait till it dried inside to use it again, to prevent any water damage to the unit. Also the filter inside got covered with dust real fast. Need to empty the dust cup to clean the filter often, and it is kinda hard to remove the dust off it.

Best handheld vac by far
This is, by far, the best handheld vac I have ever purchased and used. For the past 15 years, I have been purchasing cordless handheld vacs and every year or two I have to purchase a new one because the battery doesn't hold but a 30 second charge. I was tired of spending $30 - $200 every year or two for a new vacuum that I knew would only last a year or so. I was also very disappointed in every cordless vacuums' suction power (I have had everything from the Black & Decker CHV9610 Dustbuster 9.6-Volt Cordless Hand Vac to the Dyson DC31 Handheld Vacuum Cleaner ) I finally decided to try a corded handheld vacuum and I can't believe I waited this long!!! I will start by saying that my primary use for this vacuum is for small to medium tasks. I live in an apartment so I don't have a ton of square footage to cover. I use an upright Dirt Devil vacuum for the wooden floors. I use the handheld vacuum for the corners on the floor, under the couch and couch covers, any closet spaces, computer areas, small rugs, bathrooms, ceiling fans and even our outdoor patio. I use the Dirt Devil SD20005RED Scorpion Quick Flip 7 AMP Hand Vac - RED about twice a week and for about 15 - 20 minutes at a time (not continuous running). Pros: Suction - this vacuum has the strongest continuous suction of any other handheld I have tried. Keep in mind I use the word "continuous". This is because there is no loss of suction while plugged in. Cordless vacuums suffer from both initial suction power and then loss of suction the more you use it before charging again. This is exactly like a flashlight. When you first put in the batteries, the flashlight is rich and bright but hours later it will be dull and dim. The Dirt Devil SD20005RED Scorpion Quick Flip 7 AMP Hand Vac - RED does not lose any suction over time and is very strong!! Versatility - the scorpion quick flip feature on this vacuum is just great. You can quickly and effortlessly flip out this tool (attached to the top front of the vacuum) and the vacuum is now able to reach very tight spots. This feature is great because you do not need to keep track of a detachable piece. There is also a hose attachment with a broad head attachment to that. These are separate but very useful as well. Finally, there is an included strap that you can attach to sling the vacuum over your shoulder. I have yet to use the strap as this vacuum is very light and I don't find it necessary. Weight - I personally find the weight a non-issue and, quite frankly, very light for what it is. I did not feel any fatigue using the vacuum for extended periods of time. The Cord - The cord is very long and I was able to reach anywhere comfortably. Cons: The only con I can see (for some people) for now is that the compartment that holds/traps the dust and debris is very small and you will need to clean it several times while using it. This was hardly an inconvenience for me as I like to clean the filter many times to avoid any particles escaping back into the air (I am severely allergic to dust). The filter, as well, seems like you will need to replace it eventually. This, again, is not an inconvenience for me as the filters are very cheap and there are many customers who say you can simply wash these filters to obtain years of reuse. Other thoughts: Many reviews mentioned the over heating of the vacuum. This is slightly true. If you were to let the vacuum run continuous for 15 minutes it will get hot. This, however, is NOT the intended use of the vacuum. If it begins to get a little warm for your touch, simply turn it off and wait 30 seconds. I have not found this to be an issue at all and have had it running for nearly ten minutes without any issue. Purchasers of this item should have common sense to know that this is NOT a standard vacuum. This is a handheld vacuum and should be used as such. For the price vs what you get, I would STRONGLY recommend the Dirt Devil SD20005RED Scorpion Quick Flip 7 AMP Hand Vac - RED

Pretty powerful but get the ear plugs!
This compact vacuum is surprisingly powerful, especially compared to the small battery-operated unit I replaced. In my experience, plug-in vacuums consistently outperform cordless models, and the cord on this one is long enough that it doesn't feel inconvenient. I also like the built-in attachment—it folds out when needed, so there’s nothing extra to store or in my case, lose. Overall, it performs very well. My only drawback is the noise level. It’s extremely loud with a high-pitched sound, and it’s a relief when you switch it off.

Super-duper pleased!!
In comparison to my last hand vacuum (black+decker brand), the only good thing about it was that it was cord free. But the suction power was very little and weak. This on the other hand, has incredible suction power. it actually picks up so much dirt and dust i cant wait to try out the mouth replacements sometime soon! its pretty light on to handle, but just be prepared to carry it from area to area due to the cord prevention. very sleek design, super happy with this product!

Amazing power, but not for long
Many years ago, I had an original Royal Dirt Devil. It was a high quality US-made item, with a rotating brush, just like an upright vac, and a generous-sized cloth bag to hold the dirt. This Chinese-made Dirt Devil Scorpion is its slacker grandson. One big problem: noise. This is by far the loudest, shrillest vacuum I've ever used. I don't recommend using it without hearing protection. I'm totally serious. Then there's the switch. The original had a simple, easily operated tab-style slide switch. The Scorpion's looks like it should be a rocker switch, but it isn't. It's a slide, but without the upright tab the older one had. This one is easy to turn on, but turning it off requires more grip than the flat, slightly ribbed slider provides. That's a problem, because you're going to be turning this vacuum cleaner off and on frequently when you're using it. As other reviewers say, the Scorpion has a surprising amount of suction, way more than most handheld vacs -- for about 30 seconds. Then the tiny filter inside the dirt cup gets caked with dirt. The motor carries on with its banshee wail, but with diminishing effect. So you claw at the switch to turn the Scorpion off. You pop off the dirt cup and empty it into the trash can. Then, following the directions, you tap the filter on the side of the trash can, to try to clear the dust clog from it. This gets your hands filthy, and raises a cloud of dust that settles right back onto the surface that you're trying to clean. It'd be better to take the dust cup and filter outside to dump and clean them, of course. But it's tough to get much cleaning done when you're unplugging your vacuum and hauling it out into the weather every half-minute or so. I'm usually pretty careful about researching items like this before ordering, but I totally missed the fact that something similar to the original, bag-equipped Dirt Devil is still available: Dirt Devil Ultra Corded Bagged Handheld Vacuum . I suggest you take a close look at that vacuum before you order this model.

This “Devil” is an 😇
I had a Scorpion Dirt Devil for years and gave it away when I moved so I was thrilled when I saw that Amazon carried my favorite hand vac. This vac is so great for quick clean-ups when I don’t have to drag the vacuum put. The suction is powerful, the vac is lightweight and easy to disassemble and clean. It’s got an extra long cord and the quality of this product is outstanding! Can’t recommend the Scorpion Dirt Devil enough……does the job, the price is right and you won’t find a better one anywhere. I would purchase this again but the last one lasted for years - as I expect this one to. One caveat; don’t get a battery operated one. Those have a short operating time between charges and are not conducive to getting the job done in a timely manner.

Powerful!
Got tired of constantly having to haul out the full size vacuum for every small mess/spot cleaning, so I picked this up when I seen it on sale. Great suction power, more than ample for most basic/small cleanups. From dirt and debris on door mats and boot trays, cat litter, cat hair on furniture and upholstery, crumbs, etc. to our vehicles interior... it has performed very well. Easy to empty/clean, 15' power cord and the included attachments adds convenience and versatility. I especially like the crevice tool, it's perfect for between seat cushions and other hard to reach areas. While not a replacement for our full size, this little hand vac has proven to be very handy. ★★★★★

Buy a transformer if using in UK
Bought this little vacuum and it is super. We bought a 240v -110v transformer that took a USA plug from LVYUAN. Super vacuum and well worth going to the trouble of buying a transformer.

exactly what I needed for cleaning my cars!
I spent more time that I'd like to admit researching a vacuum for cleaning my 2 cars, more specifically my wife's van, which -thanks to our lovely kids- always looks embarrassingly filthy I came to the conclusion that a battery operated (cordless) vacuum simply will not suffice, and so I purchased this relatively non-expensive vacuum hoping I can use it with an adapter into the 12V lighter-outlet that's found in cars. Unfortunately that didn't work: the vacuum simply draws too much power (especially when you switch it on) and it must be plugged in a regular 120V outlet. having said that, because the unit is small and handheld, running an extension from the garage is not as big of a deal as with a regular big vacuum, and once you hit the switch, WOW! this vacuum really works well! as soon as you switch it on, the vacuum is so powerful that your hands kind of gets twisted from the momentum, that's how strong it is. it cleans really well, and between the narrow extension and the brush attachment you are basically covered. cheerios, prezels, small pebbles... you name it, it sucked it up. -the unit is quite loud: it basically feels like holding a full size vacuum but right by the motor. I feel it's a small price to pay for the power. -naturally it cannot hold that much dust, so I had to empty it twice for each car. which doesn't bother me. -even though the unit is designed to be handheld, the weight does start to hurt, after some 20 minutes. it does come with a shoulder strap, though. I'm happy I purchased this unit, it's does exactly what it claims to do, and it does it well!
