Save your plants during a heatwave!!
I left for a 5 day vacation during a 90 degree heat wave. I was worried for my Japanese eggplants, cherry tomato plants, and herbs including basil - all requiring consistent watering. I was shocked to return home to healthy plants - now the water almost gone - but the plants were all fine and the soil was still moist. I used 2 liter bottles but I used a water bottle 16 oz for the herb plants. Worked beautifully. I bought 3 packages for a total of 9 stoppers. GREAT PRODUCT!

11 day vacation, worked great!
I was pleased and surprised at how well these worked. My plants looked better when I returned after 11 days than they looked when I left (including two poinsettias, which I've never had much luck with)! There did seem to be an overflow at some point because there was a water stain on my table, so be sure to use deep saucers just in case. However, overflow or not, the plants were perfectly watered. I recommend using an implement like a thin knife, chopstick, etc. to create a narrow hole in the soil for the ceramic insert. It needs to get deep into the soil. Otherwise your water bottle might end up falling over and out of the plant (in which case it will leak all over the place since you have to snip a hole in it). Be sure to use bottles made of thin enough plastic that you can snip the hole into the bottom - I used sharp scissors for this.

Good product but way overhyped
This is a useful product, but the marketing overreaches. The two parts that are not accurate are "waters only when needed" and "use on vacation." Not true (unless the company means a 2-day vacation). Think of this as a continuous, slow drip irrigation system. The water keeps oozing out; it never stops. If the container is large and you put too much water in it, relative to the size of the pot (and the ability of the potting soil to absorb the water), it will simply drain out the bottom. So, if you have a large pot, you can use a large bottle; if you have a small pot, you can only use about a third of a small bottle. Also, the bigger the bottle, and the more water it contains, the greater the pressure and the faster the water comes out. Nevertheless, this is still a useful product and I would recommend it. When you water a pot with, say, a pitcher of water, much of the water can go around the sides and out the bottom. With the blumat spikes, the water comes out slowly and all of it can be absorbed by the potting soil. So, the blumat spike makes watering much easier. Simply add water to the container and it will ooze out over about 2 days.

No complaints
I have three 2-liter bottles keeping a tomato and two herb buckets going. I do supplement with fertilizer water weekly. The bottle in the tomato bucket has a much bigger flit than the others, which lets it drain faster. It lasts no more than 3 days, 2 when it's hot. The others drain more slowly, lasting from 4-6 days. At first I would fill them from a pitcher that I let sit out for a few days - to let the chlorine evaporate - but now I just fill from spigot to save time. These things are great since I can let the plants go a few days without attention. Really I should be using 2 or 3 in the tomato bucket (20 gal) and letting them drain more slowly, maybe next year. I haven't been traveling as much so it's been ok so far. I wish they still made those 3-liter soda bottles. Leaving the bottles in the sun makes them feel thin and warped after a season. Not that big a deal, since the adapters seem to show no signs on wear. Should work for a decade or more, I hope!!

Draws water down too quickly
First off, these are well made and arrived intact (unlike the terra cotta ones we ordered). I tried using them with a 2-liter bottle but it kept tipping over in the hanging baskets. I wound up using a 16.9 oz bottle and even with the plant fully moist, the water drew down in about 18 hours. Not a good solution for a week away on vacation. Might last longer on an indoor plant, or perhaps even an outdoor, fully stationary plant (hanging baskets can move), but not a good solution for me. Wound up buying a drip irrigation system on Amazon for about 20 bucks and hooking it up to an old water timer. Also, just an FYI, these do not screw on to bottles as indicated in the description. They use a tapered neck that inserts inside the top of the bottle. You also don't cut off the bottom of the bottle as in the description. I used a thumbtack to poke a small hole. Even with a small hole, it drained out way too quickly. Peace.

Easy to water plants while on vacation
It appears well designed and built. So far it has worked as designed to water the plants on my deck while I am away. I have both tubes based out of a 5 gallon bucket that is half full and placed onto a chair. Each tube runs to a separate tomato plant. I may get a few more of these!

Useless
Update: I left this in my plant when I went on vacation for 3 weeks. When I came home there was a mess. The water (as I predicted) went straight through the plant so quickly it didn’t have a chance to absorb and it went directly into a bowl/stand, and on to the floors. Original Review: I use a syphon watering system for my plants. It’s in the soil all the time. I’m going away for 3 weeks and I want to be sure they get enough water. The syphon system works well, below the earth, but I have to add water to the top soil because it is usually dry. I won’t be around to do that. I tried one small plant. The bottle leaked and ran through the plant until it was empty. The bottle had an environmental cap and I might not have pushed the green end fully into the top. Second time I got it in very far and tight. It still ran through the water. I did a larger plant with a soda bottle. It used up at least an inch of water each day. I calculate it’s not going to last more than a week. The problem is that it constantly seeps water into the plant. I thought the clay tip is supposed to sense how much water the plant needs and allow seepage accordingly. It doesn’t do that! The syphon is a much better system. I have to keep them right now. I’ll see in 3 weeks. * I write reviews to let you know how this product was for me, and to aid you in your decision to buy or not buy.

Plants look better than ever
Plants look better than ever! Ok, I was skeptical about how these would work because I have 2 hanging baskets in the front of my house that I always forget about as I am watering the majority of plants/hangers in the back of my house. I was a bit dismayed that the instructions on the packaging are NOT in English! I figured it out from other comments and stuff I read about these type of ceramic spikes. First, I soaked the tips in a bowl full of water overnight to saturate the ceramic tips. I'm sure a few hours would have been fine. Second, I thoroughly soaked the hanging baskets for be sure they started well well well watered. Third, I used the handle of a wooden spoon to make a hole, as I have read the tips can be fragile and break when you push them in. I used a 500 ml sized water bottle, and it fits like a glove. No drips or anything. I then cut the bottom off the plastic bottle so when it was inverted, I could just fill it up with my watering can. I have used it for about a week and the weather has been hot out and it's worked so well! The water level went down a 1.5 to 2 inches per day, sometimes more. I kept sticking my finger in the drain holes in the bottom of the plant, and the top and the plant felt moist right to the bottom. It is also not an eyesore, as my plants are tall enough that you hardly see them. Overall I would recommend these to anyone, and I plan to purchase more for my other baskets. I also tried it in a freestanding planter and although it worked, I think two bottles or a larger size water bottle, say 1000ml(1 liter), would have been better as the diameter of the plant was much larger. I think some people assume that you can not water for 2 weeks while on holidays. I don't think this would work except with a 2L ? sized bottle. I was only looking at something for every 2-3 days so it is great. Very happy with this product!
