Works perfectly for SSDs with Apple pin configuration.
I had a 240Gb OWC Aura N2 SSD that I was taking out of an older Mac Mini and thought it would be a perfect external backup drive for my wife's new Mac Mini. Unfortunately, the Apple SSD pin configuration is very different than the mainstream SSDs for PCs. This enclosure, also from OWC, works perfectly. While a bit pricey, it was super easy to install the SSD and get it formatted as a backup drive. I'm very happy with this purchase.

EXCELLENT build quality
This is a fantastic solid state drive enclosure for old MacBook SSDs. It is not a typical SSD enclosure - check compatibility with your Mac before purchasing. The case is machined aluminum that looks and feels nearly identical to Apple's aluminum. Other SSD enclosures for old MacBooks are almost the same price as this one, so definitely buy the OWC Envoy Pro 1A for its magnificent metal case. I upgraded an old 2015 MacBook Air (model A1466) to a larger SSD, and this enclosure is perfect for installing macOS on the new SSD as well as a permanent home for the old SSD when the upgrade is complete.

Works, and one of the only alternatives for Apple-keyed drives.
Very easy to set up, worked on the first try. Four stars rather than five because (1) it has one of those annoying micro-USB type-B plugs on the drive's side. It comes with a USB-A to micro-USB type-B cable, so you won't need to source one yourself, but I'd have preferred USB-C. And (2) it comes with an optional heat dissipation pad that was so old that it crumbled on attempted installation. Warning — this is for NVMe drives with Apple's weirdo key. Photo shows the case with a drive installed, before I closed it.

failed within minutes
OWC sells replacement drives that are supposed to be direct replacements for the stock Macbook drives. Unfortunately it turns out there are still compatibility issues and Apple (or for that matter any of the independent shops I went to) will not service Macbooks that have the OWC drives. So I thought, "no problem, I'll just put the original Mac drive back in and use the OWC enclosure that came with my drive to use it as an external drive. Then I find out that the version of the enclosure I had would support Mac drives (as advertised) but not OWC's own drives (not disclosed anywhere in their info but I found on some boards). Then I see that OWC has updated their enclosure to be able to support their own drives. Hooked it all up, and sure enough it was able to read the external drive. Then it started getting warm. Then hot. Then my Macbook no longer recognized the external drive, and still doesn't, even after cooling down. No idea if the OWC enclosure went bad or the OWC drive in it went bad. Either way, I'm not spending another penny on their products ever.

Correct pins for MB NVME and excellent build quality
Works great. Excellent build quality. Can now use a Macbook NVME as an external drive. This might be the only product with the correct pins. Then used an APFS reader (like Paragon) to get my files out on a PC.

A must if you want to reuse old mbo ssd.
Good product, easy to install. Fit great for the ssd from MacBook Pro, format capability is great. Speed is reasonable. I hope it is a little cheaper.

Great with an exception..
I had a 2015 MacBook Pro crash on me and mine is the style you can pull out the memory card. So I bought this to plug that memory card from my crashed computer into my new computer, but it would not work it just kept loading. I read a bunch of forums and found out I needed a separate power hub to plug this product into and then the hub gets plugged into the new computer. The extra power from the hub was able to download everything within a few minutes whereas before, it just wouldn’t work. I got the hub from Best Buy for $10.

Apple can suck a big one. I'm just angry I had to get this to try and get data off of someone's old MacBook. The hard drive fit no problem, comes with a case and cords. It came up on a very old MacBook, but since it is a different os I can get access. It still worked as intended, I'm just ranting about how awful macs are. Definitely buy if you want to use an old Mac SSD as an external drive.
