Makita BL1850BDC1 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion Battery and Charger Starter Pack (5.0Ah)

First off, I already owned this charger from a kit I bought a while back which included 2 2AH batteries, an impact driver, a drill and this charger in a nice bag. The charger works fine and charges quickly. It was pretty much spot on at 55 minutes for a 5AH battery, as described on the charger packaging. I knew it had a fan to keep the batteries cool and was already accustomed to the sound of the fan. Some people say it is loud, but it's quieter than an electric toothbrush, so I'm not sure what they are complaining about unless they got faulty units. The battery and charger did have a "plastic" smell when using them, but not any sort of burning smell. It was just the smell of new plastic. The battery is big and heavy, but not too much considering it is a 5AH battery. The battery doesn't have the "tabs" as noted by another review and has no issues going into my 18v LXT driver and drill (white/black versions). The battery arrived with only 1 bar of charge, so I charged it up and had no issues. I purchased this from David's Tools seller on Amazon for $88.95. The only complaint I have is the battery, while in the new packaging, was jammed into a medium-sized flat rate box from USPS. The box was bulging due to the shape of the battery packaging and the battery packaging was slightly malformed because of this.

The battery is great. It has a good run time and is powerful also.

Great original product! Battery lasts long. Most batteries are off brand and have issues. Was slightly more to get this over a solo battery.

This battery is long-lasting, has significant power while reasonable weight. The quality of the product is so good, it makes you want to buy Makita tools just for the trouble-free battery.

Everything worked fine. The only thing I found troubling is the battery was fully discharged and it's date label was 2022. Since the battery is a couple years old at this point, I have no idea how long this battery was sitting, fully discharged. The reason this is not good is because Lithium batteries degrade when they're run to zero. With Makita batteries, for max battery life its best to recharge them once they hit two bars. The company I work for exclusivly uses Makita tools and I've never been able to discharge a Makita battery to where no bars light up on the Battery Level indicator. No bars light up when I tested it at first. It did take 45 minutes to recharge the battery which is normal for a 5AH Makita battery.

Don't buy the knock-off product, they don't work right. Get Makita brand. Now, there is a little area on the battery that was left on during the extrusion process, one one side of the battery. You have to get the Dremel out and saw it off. It's on the underside, and is about .4" x .2" or so. It is what prevents the battery from sliding all of the way on, you'll figure it out. Just compare to a working battery. Once you figure it out, takes about 1 minute to grind it off. I have 10+ year old tools, all working nearly great still, and to get higher Ah, like 4.0 or 5.0 I guess this is what you have to do now for some of the tools. This fix makes it so the battery works on all tools I have. Goofy move of Makita to do this. But the batteries and product are awesome.
