This does depend how sensitive your alarm is though. Some smoke detectors are that sensitive that even a steam iron will set it off. **Q: Is it jog proof and will it read cd-r's?** A: It’s a smoke detector that fits securely to the house ceiling with no movement. The one at the top of the stairs started giving occasional false alarms. I put this down to occasionally getting steam from the adjacent bathroom. Not a problem after 8 years.I bought the replacements and was delighted to see that despite the design changing over time, the wall plate they fit to has remained the same.
