I previously have been using another popular protein powder. When pricing went extremely overboard, I saw this Optimum Nutrition Gold protein powder at a decent price and decided to give it a try. My 1st scoop of Optimum Nutrition Gold went into the blender with milk. The powder blended well. It was way thicker than the other brand. I was very impressed & satisfied with it's texture. There was zero chaulky after taste. This powder actually tastes like chocolate ! I like that alot. My 2nd scoop later that day was into a tumbler filled with black coffee and once again it blended well, although I mixed with a knife stirring it by hand (I think I could've mixed it a little more but it was still good as it was). It actually made the coffee taste just like chocolate. My other powder came close to the chocolate taste but Optimum Nutrition Gold came out way ahead for is real chocolate taste. No after taste either and just a smooth tasty drink. Overall, after only 2 scoops of trying Optimum Nutrition Gold this is now my new go to protein powder hands down! Not to mention Optimum Nutrition Gold has 6 more grams of protein per scoop than my previous powder that I was using did. The next test will be this powder with water mixed. I'm sure it won't disappoint either. So it you're looking for a protein powder I recommend trying this. Bought my first pound of this after having tried two other brands. Pros: 1) Animal-based protein source (whey, from milk products) According to Consumer Reports reviews animal based protein powders in general, and this in particular have lower levels of lead and cadmium - metals that plants take up and that get into a number of plant protein based powders, but that are not good for you. 2) Mixes well with milk or water as directed and is smooth and creamy. 3) No gritty, hard to clean residue left on glassware, mixing cup or blender, unlike other brands. 4) No nasty "artificial flavor" taste or after taste for me. Cons: 1) Very bland, almost flavorless despite claiming to be "double rich chocolate" (I haven't tried other flavors). Bragging about the "rich chocolate" is definitely misleading. 2) A bit pricier than some competitors. Conclusion: A good product, but I'll keep trying to add some chocolate (or other) flavoring even if I have to accept some sugar and calories.
