Works well
Had sand filter for years. Pain to empty and clean out every 3 years. Purchased these as I started my pool this year. What usually takes about a week to get clean water took only about 2 days. Water is super clean.

SOOOOO MUCH BETTER THAN SAND OR GLASS in a sand filter.
These work on ANY sand filter system and soooooo much better than sand or glass. We did A LOT of research before purchasing these and it was worth it...we are so happy with the results. And depending on the amount of sand your filter requires will determine how many boxes of balls you need for your filter. You fill it to the top of the fill line just as if you were filling your filter with sand or glass. There are many charts on line to tell you how many boxes you need for your size filter, but just check your manual to see the sand requirement needed and buy accordingly. They say a 5 lb. box equals 50 lbs. of sand but I think it's actually even higher. We own an 18 X 10 Rectangular Above Ground pool by Bestway and our pump is 1,050-gallon filter pump with a water capacity: 3,913 gallons and close to 40 lbs. of sand needed to fill it to the fill line and we filled the filter to the fill line with the balls and our box looks like it is still completely full so you get several uses out of one box of balls for our size filter anyway. They say they will last several seasons if you use the right chemicals in your pool that are recommend (NEVER USE CLARIFIERS with these balls it will clog them up) and check and clean your balls as needed usually once a month. You don't need pool clarifiers with this product anyway, this product is soooooo easy and maintains a MUCH better water balance than when you use sand or glass. I bought a bucket just for rinsing these balls in (I don't use a bucket I use to clean my house because it could coat the balls with bad chemicals and I NEVER use tap water) I use clean pool water on them to clean them. They say you can use your washing machine to clean these, but I wouldn't chance introducing chemicals on them that may cause a water imbalance. Just check you PH once a week, use chlorine tablets, check you balls about once a month or more, and clean them or replace them as they get dirty and that's all you need to do.This is not something you just throw in your filter and never check all season even sand and glass should be cleaned often during each pool season, but one box of these goes a long way. We filled our filter and it barely made a dent in the ball supply out of the box. There are several months use in one 5lb. box if you don't want to have to clean the balls and just wanted to replace them with new ones each time. If used properly this system is AMAZING!We never need anything other than Chlorine tablets and have not had algae or any other problems just crystal clear water. But we follow all pool maintenance rules and product recommendations closely too. Hope this helps :)

Good stuff
The media could not be loaded. Following another reviewers advice to save money, I replaced filter sand with about one third bag of these and a bag (cheaper brand) of smaller, white filter balls in my 16" sand filter pump. I figure as the balls need replacing, I'll add the remaining balls. My 18' above ground salt water pool has never been cleaner. Because the water stays really warm here, I add 1.5 ounces of algae guard once a week, and stabilizer once a month or so, as needed. Other than that and the occasional vacuum, I haven't had to do anything else to keep my pool crystal clear. With sand, I had to backwash at least twice a week, struggled with keeping the water balanced, and still ended up with water that was often cloudy or green tinged. I have backwashed these balls once so far. Although the water was still clear, after about three months, when I noticed that water flow had decreased slightly, I took them out, rinsed them, ran them through a wash cycle without detergent, and put them back in. It is now mid June and I have only had to do this once (our summers start in March). Although it was a bit of a pain to remove them, they washed easily and work like new. With our south Texas insects, dust, pollen, etc, three months between washes is totally acceptable! I definitely recommend filter balls over sand. BTW, I haven't had to replace any of the balls yet.
