For anyone who's struggled with the technical aspects of oil painting (i.e., anyone who's tried it!), she offers clear instruction, insider knowledge of what makes an artwork successful, and friendly encouragement. It's like having a coach cheering you on (and I write that as someone who has been fortunate enough to experience Sedwick's teaching online and in person) to a better painting process. A view into her painting philosophy, Dynamic Still Life for Artists also gives us a valuable glimpse into contemporary still life art with beautiful images of works by other artists (note Sedwick's helpful captioning of each) as well as her own. Yes, please!

Very clear and easily chewed instruction on painting still life. Touches on many concepts and simplifies the process from beginning to end. Easy reading on a sometimes confusing topic. Highly recommend this book if you are starting out in painting.

Although I would highly recommend this book to anyone taking up the medium of oils, I find that for the most part still life painting(s) are not for me. I tend to gravitate back to animals and wildlife. That said, this book is a great help for setting up a still life and how to make them your own.

I love the book but if I had know it was only for oil painting I may have purchased a different one. I didn’t see anything in the description about it only featuring oil painting

Out of every ten books on painting or drawing, you are luck if one or two works for you. I have been doing watercolor and pastel for years, and have just started working with oils. I was really stumbling along until I read this book on Kindle. Sarah Sedwick has a writing style that is very straightforward and keeps your interest going. I finished this book in two nights. The information really got me on track toward producing decent results in a painting according to my standards.One book got me started with pastels and that was Bill Creevey's book. I have had this book for years and I still reference it. Unfortunately, Bill only wrote one book on pastels and now he has passed away. I really hope Sarah writes more books on art. I will buy every one of them. She is truly an amazing artist and, clearly, a great teacher. Thanks, Sarah.

I have been a watercolor and mostly an acrylic painter for over 30 years. I wanted to finally try oils because I love the richness and the way they can blend. I am trying water-soluble oils and this book was very helpful showing how to mix piles of colors, which you can never do with acrylics alone. Making hard and soft edges and again emphasizing it’s all values, shapes and color relationships. Very helpful and inspiring book, I’m glad I got it.

Great images throughout. Excellent compliment to her YouTube channel. Very enjoyable for the beginner and novice.

Well written, and beautifully illustrated. This book was written with oil painting in mind but the principles Sarah Sedwick teaches are equally applicable to other media as well. I have many books in my artist library and this book is one of the most important.

Interesting and practical, with great illustrations. Well structured with actionable advice. Would definitely recommend for anyone with a little painting experience but perhaps new to still life concepts.

I had this in my radar from podcasts I had heard, then it was mentioned at my art class so I knew I had to buy it. It does not disappoint. So much great advise and examples from many artists to encourage any budding still life artist, or just enjoy the book for the fabulous art included.

Such a beautiful but also fundamental learning tool from one of my favourite contemporary artists. Comprehensive for the beginner and also full of stunning inspiration. I never tire of Sarah’s work nor her teaching style. A great addition a collection of art manuals.
