Quality Hedge Shears That Make Trimming Easier
I work as a freelance gardener and sometimes that means trimming a hedge. I don't use gas powered tools. Prior to purchasing these Okatsune shears, I owned a very basic and somewhat heavy set of shears and I didn't particularly enjoy hedge trimming. All of that completely changed after I bought these shears. Firstly, as a female gardener, these are really enjoyable to use because they are incredibly light weight and nimble so there is absolutely no arm or back fatigue using these as opposed to using heavier shears. Secondly, they are super sharp and trimming with them results in a beautifully precision cut hedge. Thirdly they allow me to get my work done faster. These shears are a dream to work with, I love using them for work and now I can say I really enjoy trimming hedges.

EXCELLENT! Consider Stihl which is rebadged Okatsune 231 Model - longer blades and less $
My "orange handled" hedge shears were not working right - something out of alignment so I was looking and found these rave reviews for OKATSUNE shears. The price was a little high but I am drawn to QUALITY so decided to take the plunge. Bought these 217 shears. They arrived new and sharp and clean. I did not use them as right after I ordered I saw some other reviews theorizing that Stihl Heavy Duty shears are made by Okatsune. Yet the picture didn't quite match these. I dug further and found that Okatsune also makes a 231 model which is same medium length handles but the blades are around 1" longer. THAT picture matched exactly to the Stihl product. So I went to local A hardware store and got those kind for a lower price. I like that I get more blade length for less money. Either way you can't go wrong I think. THESE ARE SHARP and I made quick work of my yews and boxwoods. These cut the boxwoods like buttah! On the yews they also cut like buttah and even on the thicker clumps of stems that are up to 1/2" in diameter, a little arm power and they slice through those too. I cleaned them off after to get the sap off then oiled them. I probably should have oiled them FIRST before using to make clean up even easier. I think they will last a long time. I am a little wary that the oak handles will be the thing that breaks at some point but hopefully not for awhile. They are attached by a couple rivets on each side.

Smmoooooth!
I've had these shears for exactly one day .... I'm in love! Spent the afternoon trimming my Japanese hollies (what else?!). The shears are basically a very large pair of scissors... a very sharp and wonderfully crafted pair of scissors. Very light weight and perfectly balanced -- does not tire your arms or hands. The cut is effortless and clean. I don't know what took me so long to get these! Worth every penny!!

Super sharp
I used this to chop off the tops of the ton of thyme and mint I have to encourage growth and keep the bees under control. The cuts are super sharp. Be careful. I actually cut my finger while using rubbing alcohol to clean the blades. Wow that hurt. These are super light. I'm a 63 yo female and carried them around my hard for 3 hours. Tomorrow I'll use these to tackle all of my boxwood. I bought the whetstone to keep them sharp . Great shearers. The ones I have from ace just basically smushed the stems instead of cutting them. I'm wondering if all Okatsune products are as excellent as these shears.

Quality Shears for Gardening Nirvana
Minutes after the package arrived, I viewed my new Okatsune garden shears. A smile of good fortune lit up my face when I saw the sturdy wood handles, well forged blades, and inscribed hanko stamp on the connecting bolt head. I soon discovered the superb value of this gardening tool. The shears helped me easily become master of shrubbery that had been blocking my wife's way to the laundry shed. So I went to work, chop chop, but it was not work at all. More like focused gardening meditation through the blades of "wax on - wax off" shrubbery thinning and shaping nirvana. My wife was thrilled with my path clearing work. Ok, I know my review now sounds rather extreme but you must know that I never dreamed I could so easily trim shrubs and have fun doing it until I got a set of these Okatsune garden shears in my hands. I cleaned and oiled the blades, and can hardly wait another day to shear overgrowth in our settlements of rosemary shrubs! Congratulations to Okatsune on manufacturing a most excellent gardening tool.

Very effective, truly razor sharp!
Bought these shears for trimming shrubs and my weeping willow. They performed flawlessly, making short work of these projects. These are razor sharp, including the tips of the blades. I was working in a tangle of willow branches, and while brushing trimmed branches out of the way I stabbed myself in the finger. I wasnโt badly injured, but the tip of this blade effortlessly pierced my finger. Wear gloves, and be very cognizant about where the blades are in relationship to your body.

A Joy to use
These are terrific shears. Have had for over 6 months and they are as sharp as new. They arrived without any manual or paperwork though - see photo - they were alone in the box with one piece of brown paper. I had to research online about their care, then purchased the camellia oil that is recommended. Both of these products arrived with only Japanese writing on the labels, not one word in English (Japanese characters only). The blades have discolored /darkened over time though I do use the oil after most uses. But the sharpness cannot be overstated; I can prune as long as I desire with no wrist fatigue whatsoever. They are light weight. I wear gloves to help with grip as the wood handles are smooth. They make the work fun and a pleasure to do. Highly recommend.

Very sharp. High quality steel. Tears through shrubs and bushes.
Used this extensively to cut back and shape my boxwoods, rhododendrons, and other decoratives. It is not designed to cut through limbs of more than 1/2 inch although I bet it could. Maintenance is easy -- I plan to sharpen at the start of each season. Nothing else to really think about. I am so happy to have replaced my electric trimmer -- with these the job is only marginally slower with far greater precision and control. My unreliable power trimmers which are heading to the trash! (Tool off a star due to price only -- could be 10-15% less.)

Exceptional shearers
very quick shipping from Japan. These shearers are very sharp and a joy to use. Worth paying the extra for quality. Im a landscape architect and keen gardener so really appreciate the quality. Owning these almost makes using them a ritual event! Perhaps as I mainly use them to prune cloud trees

Very sharp hedge shears
Being a horticulture worker, I've tried a couple of models but nothing came close to these. They're so sharp that you can really concentrate on the shape that you're trying to get rather than how to get a good cut. I wouldn't beat them up with thick branches like I do my pruning shears because I want these to stay as sharp as possible for as long as possible. They really are fantastic to use, I kind of felt like Edward Scissorhands since they're so precise!
