Best Budget Air Cooler I’ve Used – Insane Performance for the Price
The Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE has honestly been one of the best upgrades I’ve put in my PC. I’ve been using it for a while now in my setup, and the performance has been amazing for an air cooler in this price range. It keeps temps low and stable even under load, and it just quietly does its job without any drama. The dual 120mm PWM fans move a lot of air while still staying fairly quiet, and the 6 heat pipe design really seems to make a difference in heat dissipation. Installation was straightforward, and it’s been fully reliable across long gaming and everyday use sessions. It also fits a wide range of sockets, which made it perfect for my setup. Overall, it’s easily one of the best or the best value cooler out there.

Got this for a build I made for my buddy. These are the GOAT of budget air coolers. It's a solid choice for a reason. Its cooling is excellent for low to mid tier builds, its easy to install, its noise is low, looks good and fits like a glove.

Great CPU Fan/Heatskink! Fixed my overheating issues instantly!
I built my desktop computer approximately 2 years ago and recently I started having some issues with it. It would randomly just freeze completely causing me to manually shut it down. It was strange because it mostly happened when the PC was idle and/or not under heavy use. I finally narrowed it down to an overheating issue. I did some research and this is the fan and heatsink that I was recommended. The heatsink along with the fans are pretty large, so you will definitely need a sizeable case for it to fit. Also, you may need to mount your fan(s) slightly higher up on the heatsink in order to keep it from touching other components. I only had to raise one fan in order to get above my RAM. It ended up fitting perfectly in my case. It looks really nice, the color matches the rest of my components, and it’s quiet! The kit does come with proper mounting plates for both AMD and Intel, easy to use fan clips, and thermal paste. The installation was pretty easy and straightforward. I’ve had it installed for nearly a month and my computer has been stable and running much better and much cooler. It hasn’t frozen one single time, even under heavy use. I highly recommend this fan/heatsink if you’re in the market for one!

Great CPU Cooling for a Good Price
When I built my PC five years ago I installed a Dark Rock Pro 4 for my CPU cooler. It worked very well, but over the years the fans grew louder, the cooling became less efficient, and dust began to accumulate in hard to clean places. I decided to look for an affordable replacement and settled on the Thermalright Peerless Assassin. Overall, I believe this was a very good choice. Compared to my Dark Rock Pro 4, the Thermalright Peerless Assassin was a breeze to install. The LGA 155x bracket fit my motherboard and was easy to install. The thermal paste seemed thicker than other pastes I've used, but it went on neatly and is clearly working. The spring screws seem to have secured the cooler to the brackets very well. My biggest complaint with my old cooler was installing the fans. Happily, I can report that the Peerless Assassin's fan are easy to install, and remove if needed, and are secure. In terms of performance, I'm completely satisfied. The fans are not as quiet as my Dark Rock Pro 4 when I first installed it. However, they are an acceptable low volume. My PC has an Intel Core i7-8700k CPU and the cooler has no problem keeping it between 20C to 30C while idle or under a light load. I am no longer an avid gamer, and do not play modern video games, however I did test the thermals while playing Minecraft. It kept my CPU around 40C most of the time and would briefly shoot up to 50C when loading parts of the map. At less than 40 USD this cooler is a fantastic option for CPU cooling. Its significantly less expensive than comparable coolers, is easy to install, and delivers good performance.

Good Value
One of the best value CPU air coolers out there, a little unflattering but does the job well. I bought one originally for my sister for the Intel Core Ultra 5 265k and at light use it runs fairly cool 40-60. Now I do note that it runs fairly hot under full (100%) load 70-80 from what I remember. But I bought this for my Ryzen 9 5900 XT that I recently got, I'll update to see how hot it gets when I build it, oh and one final note the last 2 screws are kinda hard to get down on the first try but dont give up!. Cheers! Update: CPU Tested Ryzen 9 5900 XT After benchmarking I got it to reach ~3.6-3.7 GHZ sustained load for all 16 Cores @ ~62 C on stock settings pulling about 125 W. With limits set to motherboard and a -15 curve optimizer undervolt I got 4.3-4.4 GHZ sustained load @ 90 C pulling about 220 W

Not pretty but it works great
After getting my Ryzen 7 5800XT I was told emphatically that I *need* to use liquid cooling, there's *no possible way* an air cooler could keep it from melting. I really didn't want to spend that much and figure out how to mount it in my case, though, so a friend recommended this one to me, and I couldn't be happier. Keeps this notoriously hot CPU at just around 60C full load and 30~40C idle. It's big and kind of unwieldy, but I was able to fit it in a micro-ATX case just fine. You might need to remove it to change other parts, but it's not that hard to uninstall or reinstall. I do think the "fan clips" are really stupid though. I get they had to cut the cost somewhere to get this thing this cheap, but it feels a bit insane entrusting the fans to a glorified paperclip, and I could not for the life of me figure out how to actually get them properly clipped on to the heatsinks at first. Pretty quiet and reliable so far but I've only had it in the machine for a little bit, so I'll make sure to come back and edit this review if it craps out on me.

Last stop for my AM4 board and overall happy with the results!
Upgraded my processor from a Ryzen 3900x 12 Core to the new 10th anniversary edition Ryzen 5800x3D and initially I decided to just reuse my cooler that I was using for my 3900x which was a Coolermaster Hyper 212 Black Edition. Boy was I in for a surprise when I was idling in the lower to mid 50's and maxing 91C running Cinebench tests on the 5800x3D. My 3900x was never running like that, though I could definitely feel warmth coming out of my tower all the time with my Coolermaster on my 3900x. After reading around the internet this one was recommended many times for the 5800x3D and decided for how cheap it was, got nothing to lose. Installation was actually easier than my Coolermaster with only having two screws to tighten versus 4 on my Coolermaster. Tightening them was a breeze, starting just a couple turns on one to get it threaded then going to the other one, do the same and just go back and forth until they're both snug, not overly tight. Had to raise the front fan a smidge due to my high-profile ram but it is what it is. After I got back up and running, I decided to go right back on Cinebench and run another multicore test, and to my surprise, the CPU only maxed at 81C for the whole test, with fluctuations between 78-80 most of the time. That's a great 10C drop in CPU temps from my last cooler. Also, my idling temps are now around 36-40C which is another roughly 10C drop. Also, the air coming out of my tower with this thing was pretty cool compared to my previous Coolermaster, even under heavy benching. The included fans were barely audible even during the Cinebench rendering. Like you could tell they ramped up if you were focused on it and really listened, but they were really quiet overall. No vibrations or weird noises like a lot of people complain about. I used Arctic MX-4 thermal paste instead of the included paste so I can't comment on how good it is. I think people tend to over exaggerate the size of this sometimes, but it is big, but not like anything that will stop you from putting it into a full-size tower. Overall, I'm more than happy and would easily recommend this for a 5800x3D on AM4.

Great Cooler. Tricky To Install. Needs a better instruction manual with more steps.
I just installed this yesterday and it's holding cpu temps at 32 C at idle in a room that's 70 F or 21.1 C While watching the live feed of the CPU temp, even when it a background process causes it to jump into the 40's C, it immediately dissipates the heat and it drops right back down to 32 C. Those extra pipes really help out. I played Diablo 4 for about an hour to stress test it and the temps never reached 70 C on my i7-8700k. I think it topped out in the high 50's to low 60's. Might reach higher temps after a longer play session. Admittedly it was tricky to install into an already assembled PC, if I had been installing it on a motherboard out of the case it wouldn't be that bad. I would suggest removing the top fans on your case to make it easier to work with fan placement and wiring because you can't install this with the cpu cooler fans already in, you have to mount it first, then put the fans on it after. There should be plenty of room left over after mounting it to get the top case fans back in, you just may want to remove them for finger room with the brackets and wiring. Personally I decided to upgrade the fans to Arctic BioniX 120mm fans because I use those fans in my case already. 4x 140mm and now 3x 120mm. They can go faster than advertised, just depends on the case and airflow. So refer to other reviews that keep the stock fans for those fan performance. Part of the issue with why this cooler can be tricky to install is because the instructions are a little too short, if you aren't careful you will get the orientation of the picture mixed up and install the mounting bracket the wrong direction like I did and then have to re-do it. Also it isn't clear which way to mount it, there isn't much difference if you flip it from left to right facing and the instruction manual doesn't clear it up, had to resort to the picture on the box to be sure. The other problem was actually getting the cooler attached to the mounting bracket. As was mentioned in the Gamer's Nexus YT review, once you get one screw lined up, you have to really push the other side down to get it to bite. At first I was worried it just wasn't lining up, but then I realized it just had to be pushed to bend down to reach the screw. Also tricky to do is the fans as I said before, you have to mount the cooler first, then you can install the fans, but getting your wiring just right, fan brackets lined up where you want and snapped in requires some dexterity, though I took extra challenge by customizing the fans and linking them together. All in all this is a great CPU air cooler for the price point. Based on what I'm seeing so far with temps, I definitely recommend it if you're up for the install. Definitely don't try to just force everything all at once, this is not a cooler you want to have to take apart and correct something once it's in there.

"Wow", is all I can say
I've recently upgraded my budget gaming laptop's CPU to Ryzen 7 5800X, fitting in a Mini ATX casing and basic neutral airflow. Have tried to recycle the previously Ryzen 5's stock fan, but the temperature hit 90 Celsius a couple of times and shutdown my PC. Had to resort to eco mode for awhile until I came across the raving review of TPA120SE. Reverting to normal mode (non-Eco) and installing TPA120SE, the same high intensity game doesn't cause the temperature to spike above 70 Celsius, usually floating between 43 - 65 Celsius. And the price point is incredible for the value it delivers!

Powerful CPU Cooler at a good price!
Have been using it for a month now. So far has been performing excellently. It runs quiet. Temperatures are 20C lower than with my previous Ryzen stock cooler during Prime95 torture test as well as Cinebench R23 Stability Test. Previously Prime95 used to make the cpu thermal throttle. Installing the cooler itself was pretty simple... I did watch a couple of Youtube videos on how to install the cooler and read the manual that comes with the package. Removing the previously installed Ryzen stock cooler was tougher due to the risk of the cpu staying stuck with the cooler when the cooler is removed, had to do this one very carefully.
