A Suitable Inexpensive T12 Fixture With A DURABLE GE Ballast
About a year ago, I replaced a hard-to-reach fluorescent fixture in my garage that had gone bad after more than 20 years. Well guess what - the replacement went bad within a year. It was a cheap fixture - about 11 bucks - I purchased from Walmart made by "Lights Of America". Checking reviews for that particular fixture, I realized that the ballasts were junk and don't last. Wanting to make sure that I didn't make the same mistake twice, I went to Walmart, Lowes, and Home Depot in my search for a durable fixture. I found that all the cheap fixtures (<$20) had bad reviews regarding the life of the ballasts. Finally, I found this model for $20 at Lowes which had better reviews. After opening it, I found that it contains a GE Ballast (UPC 04316897498, model GE240RS120 / 97498). From my brief research, I found that GE ballasts are durable. Do realize in reading other reviews, you might find complaints about the fixture being made out of flimsy metal, not wired to a plug, lacking adequate mounting hardware, but if you are just a little handy, and you have some extra hardware laying around, you can easily install this fixture in your garage or wherever you wish. I was able to climb over obstacles in my garage and reach the hard-to-reach area where the old fixture was installed. I removed the old fixture and got this new T12 fixture up and running in about 15 minutes. This fixture is truly "rapid start" as described. I am very happy about making this purchase. You will find more reviews on the Lowes website: [...] Don't waste your time with cheaper models. Learn from my mistake and subsequent research!

No blubs and does not have a GE ballast
I bought this based on a review from someone stating it had a GE ballast. They must have cheapened out, because that is not what mine has. Also, the picture shows the lamps installed, but in the fine print of the description (further down the page) it states they are not included. I would have continued to shop for other brands if I had known these two things. It is a very flimsy built light, but hopefully it'll last a while.

After installing it with new lightbulbs, they went out after 2 days.
For some reason the light bulbs are burning out after 2 days of use.
