## Overview

The DTech Serial to Ethernet Converter Adapter is a rugged, industrial-grade device server that converts RS232, RS422, and RS485 serial data into TCP/IP Ethernet packets. Supporting 10/100M Ethernet with full/half duplex, DHCP, Dynamic DNS, and Modbus RTU/TCP protocols, it offers flexible network modes (TCP/UDP client/server) and baud rates up to 921,600 bps. With wide voltage input (12V-70V), PoE capability, and dual serial ports operating simultaneously, it’s ideal for remote monitoring, POS, ATM, and security systems requiring reliable, long-distance serial device networking.

## Description

Serial RS232/RS485/RS422 to TCP/IP Ethernet Device Server If you are trying to connect a serial device that is not close to a local computer, here is a rugged powered serial to ethernet device server for you to remotely access, control, and manage serial port device over TCP/IP network easily, regardless of the distance between the server and client computer. Computer networking serial server supports RS-232 and RS-485 working Independently at the same time, e.g. RS232 and RS485, or RS232 and RS422. (can’t do RS422 and RS485 at the same time) Dual Serial port server is well constructed with compact and protective solid steel enclosure for tabletop, wall mount or DIN rail mounting Important: pls make sure the IP of computer and our device server is in the same network segment, so it can work. RS-232, RS-485/422 3 in 1 serial port to 10/100 Base self-adaptive Ethernet interface (compatible with 802.3 protocol) full duplex RS422 and half duplex RS485 data communication Built-in Ethernet media transport layer (MAC) and physical layer (PHY) Support IPV4, not for IPV6 Baud rate: 300 - 921600 bps Modbus Gateway: Bi-directional Modbus RTU to Modbus TCP TCP Server, UDP Server, TCP Client, UDP Client working modes DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) Automatically obtain IP address, Dynamic DNS domain name access Power Option: external power adapter AC to DC, or PoE (power over Ethernet, pin 4/5 and 7/8) Electrostatic protection ESD: ±5kV wide voltage input range 12V～70V, output 1000mA Appliances ATM terminals, Credit card and check verification system, Data collection, Gas pump, Industrial and medical remote monitoring system, Point-of-sale terminal, Remote diagnostic, Remote metering, Security system, Ticketing/Vending/gaming machine, ... What’s Included: 1x Dual Serial Device Server 1x Power Supply 1x 9 pin Serial Cable

Review: Not recommended unless for short term - Well made and easy to connect initially, but will not stay connected and has to be rebooted continuously. The user manual is useless as it is printed too small to be read. Find the user manual online and zoom. It doesn't have a webgui for configuration. You must use a proprietary .exe to configure. If using for Modbus protocol, you must use ModbusTCP. ModbusRTU will not work. I used it short term to connect to field equipment until the final equipment arrived, and now I keep it as a spare.
Review: Seems to be good, but time will tell! - Was looking to convert from a linux computer handling our serial to ethernet connections to device servers. I have a lantronix and a Moxa, but wanted to try out something less expensive. Setup was a little weird as there is no web interface, you have to download a configuration tool, to talk to the device. The link is a QR code on a card in the box. Default IP is 192.168.1.200 but you can change that once you are into the config tool. After I figured that out, I was able to make the correct configurations for each port. I am running our buildings HVAC system and access control system and it appears to work. I will update if it fails or if i have to reset it, because that would be a non-starter for me. One interesting thing to note is the specs say the device server support's POE of 802.3. Technically it does, but not 802.3af (normal POE), it operates off of passive POE, presumably to save cost. Took 1 star off for that, though it does list the POE pinout as pins 4\5 and 7\8 which is passive POE not 802.3af. UPDATE 2022-5-17 - I am using the RS-232 and RS-485 port and everything is still functioning.

## Features

- Bi-directional transparent transmission between serial data and Ethernet Packets: 3 in 1 Serial Device Server is designed with an RS232, RS422, or RS485 serial interface to a local area network to transmit serial data over Ethernet (TCP/IP)
- Serial server box supports DHCP and Dynamic DNS function, 4 kinds of working mode: TCP Client、TCP Server、UDP Client and UDP Server; bidirectional Modbus RTU/TCP
- Supports 10M/100M, full duplex / half duplex self-adaptive Ethernet interface (compatible with 802.3 protocol); baud rate ranges from 300 bps to 921600 bps; supports IPV4
- Wide voltage input 12V-70V; comes with a 12V power adapter, also supports POE (power over Ethernet, on pin 4/5 and 7/8 of POE switch); TX and RX indicators for easy troubleshooting
- Dual serial port server supports RS-232 and RS-485 working at the same time, ideal for Industrial and medical remote monitoring system, ATM terminals, computer networking, POS, door controller, Data collection, security system, etc.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Rs232 is working. however i can't get rs485 to work. i tried all different configurations and still couldn't get it work.any suggestions?**
A: One thing that I found is that the RS232 is on Port 2 so presumably Port 1 is the RS485.

**Q: Is IPV6 supported?**
A: No, this powered serial device server box can't support IPV6, it supports IPV4.

**Q: Has anyone been able to power it via poe? i have a unifi poe switch that powers everything, but this device.**
A: Hi, the powered serial to Ethernet device server supports POE power supply, on pin 4/5 and 7/8 of POE switch. If any inconvenience caused, we're truly sorry for that, and if need any further assistance, you may contact us directly via the order page's "contact seller" button. And here some files for your reference to use the adapter, https://app.box.com/s/i6y6on52q588huvukn1uz6dy162ossiq

**Q: /What is the operating temperature? there is no this important parameter. how can i buy it?**
A: Hi, the serial to Ethernet adapter's operating temperature is from -4℉ to 176 ℉, relative humidity is from 5% to 95%.

### ⭐ Doesn't work, won't make connection as client nor accept connection as server
*by B***S on 20 January 2024*

I purchased this to interface with my hvac system that uses rs485. But it is JUNK - This review will contain some technical details as if you are purchasing this I assume you know something about these type of devices. I'll start by saying the manual is printed in miniscule fonts and is a booklet that is 3"x2" and practically unreadable without a magnifying glass or microscope. Looking for the manual online is also a single page scan of the entire 18 page manual that you have to Zoom in on and 1/2 of it's not even in the online manual. This device DOES NOT HAVE A WEB CONFIGURATION FEATURE! You must configure it using a windows based exe. This does allow you to scan for it on your network and configure the ip which is about the only thing that is nice about it. After hooking it up and running the configuration program the device would not accept a connection as a tcp server no matter what port I tried. A Packet capture using Wireshark showed it just sends an RST packet on attempt to connect to the server port configured in the gui. nmap also verifies it is NOT LISTENING on the port. I also tried configuring it as a client and pointing it at a host running netcat listening for connections while running Wireshark it NEVER attempted to connect. I am returning this and cannot recommend this product. DO NOT BUY!!!
