OXO Good Grips 2 Piece Silicone Egg Poaching Set

This poacher works perfectly every time. It seems expensive for how minimal and simple it really is, but the thing is it a brilliant idea. Because it’s so low tech there’s nothing to break or go wrong. If you want perfectly poached eggs every time this is the perfect tool to achieve that.

Brilliant. Simple - a proper egg. I followed product instructions. Over 50 years and 5 fingers plenty to count my wife’s culinary compliments. Upon seeing my first 3 eggs: “Beautiful.” Compact storage; ease of use and cleaning + great results. I confess ignorance may contribute to my inability to favor a different product despite youth with mother’s Revere ware poacher.

We enjoy a nice soft boiled egg or poached egg, and have successfully made both in the past, but I saw this OXO product and decided to give it a try. They do work, and make the process of poaching an egg super easy. If you’ve ever been intimidated at the idea of poaching eggs, you should definitely try this product. The poachers are bigger than I expected, so to allow them to sit in the pot (without crowding), and to get the appropriate water level (there’s a water line mark on the poachers), I used a stock pot. The “cage” part of the poacher keeps the egg corralled while it sets, which I think is the biggest benefit of using this product (no need to swirl, etc.). Cleanup is easy - the poachers wash up easily and can be “folded” into themselves (forming a cup shape) for compact storage. FYI, there will still be egg white residue in the cooking pot, just like with the normal egg poaching process. You might need to experiment with cook time (a guide is included with the product) to get the exact cook you prefer. We cooked large eggs for 3.25 minutes (timing started when eggs were dropped into the simmering water) and had nice soft eggs to top our ramen bowls. Nice gadget!

Effortless perfect poach! I have tried multiple poaching methods with most being subpar. This product is a game changer. Make sure you use white vinegar and only a slight simmer to make the egg whites stay together. I do 3.5 - 4 minutes for a jammy egg. Product is very easy to clean.

If you are an egg poaching person, skip this item and keep poaching your regular way. I have poached for 70 years and tried every poaching gadget available before taking them to Goodwill. This gadget is the closest to poached eggs, but not good enough. I tested the cups rigorosly and found them to be cumbersome, too large, and fussy. However, since the egg is totally submersed in water at 205 degrees, it is a poached egg, no different than my traditional method. To use two cups I had to test various pans to fit the cups and then fill with water. I ened up with 2 1/2 inched of water regardless of pan size. For four cups this took a very large pot and from start to finish almost 19 minutes to bring to 205 degrees before dropping the eggs in the cup. I sprayed the top of the cup with cooking spray to stop the egg from sticking to the bottom of the pan and removed the cups at two to three minutes, followed by stiring the water a bit. At this point you are using the traditinal method of poaching. The cup does keep the egg in a smaller circle. I did try leaving the cup in for the entire cooking period and found no difference, once I sprayed the cup to stop sticking. Who ever created this prioduct definitly should receive an award. I also used the cups to fry eggs, doing double duty in keeping the egg the size of a Bays English Muffin. The cups take longer and have to be cleaned. So overall they increase the cooking difficulty with no better outcome.

I was suspect but these poachers produce perfectly poached eggs in 3 minutes. Not messy and very easy.

I could not understand the 4.2 average review rating. So I read the AI summary. There are some valid points. They are rather large, if they were a little bit smaller I could fit three in my pot. Yes the holes are probably larger than they need to and yes some of the egg whites leak out through the holes. If there were smaller holes and if the Bell was smaller could it be improved? Probably. I thought I could make a better egg poacher myself, but after a few failed attempts, I realized I would stick with this one because it works quite well. In my experience, 3 minutes and 30 seconds - 4 minutes turns out a nice soft poached egg yolk with all the whites cooked. Yummy!

Eggs fall straight through the basket to the bottom of the pan. The opening is too large and the basket is too tall. Takes far too long get enough water boiling for this to be practical even if the basket did hold the egg. These are likely going in the bin.

I can't believe that something this simple makes poached eggs so easy. My nutritionist has been encouraging me to eat at least 6 eggs per week. But I am getting sick of hard boiled eggs, both the limitations of flavour and the long preparation time. I find poaching eggs however to be messy, and I lose so much of the egg white. Not anymore. These little silicone cups somehow make the poached eggs cleanly and easily, without having to worry about stirring the water. The cups also don't take up too much kitchen space, they can be folded down and stacked and placed in the kitchen drawer. I think I will grab some more of these as gifts for my mum and sister.
