Solid and comprehensive scan tool
Iโm very much a novice in the troubleshooting of modern engines and their elaborate electronics. When a multitude of lights appeared on the dash, I plugged in my most basic code reader and found several codes that fell short of explaining the lights. Thinking frugally, I got my local parts store to check it with their somewhat more advanced reader. Unfortunately they added only a myriad of seemingly random suggestions that came from Google. No help. I hate throwing in the towel and asking a repair shop to lighten my wallet, so my search lead me to this XTool scanner. Setup was very simple and in just a few minutes, it was displaying the same codes. The massive leap for me was the ability to see the data from various sensors while in motion. Sure enough, the data coming off the mass airflow sensor was out of range and the air/fuel ratio was all over the place. Replacing the sensor seems to have resolved all my issues. What it had to do with my ABS, Slip, and Traction Control lights I donโt know. The scanner feels very well built but is heavy enough that you donโt want to hold it while driving for long. Fortunately, there is a nice metal stand on the back that lets you not only set it on a flat surface but also hangs very nicely on the top of the steering wheel. On straightaways, this is very convenient, but probably somewhat illegal. The WiFi wireless connection with the OBD plug-in is very quick. Initial connection is probably ten seconds and the multiple streams of data feels near instantaneous. I really wasnโt expecting such performance. The absence of a cable is great while driving. The tablet arrived with a 90% charge and Iโve yet to plug it in. It does let you use it for several sessions before insisting you register. After doing so, I have not received so much as a confirmation email. Fingers crossed that I will avoid a deluge of solicitations from mainland China. My only gripe is that the interface is pretty complex. This scan tool can do a great deal and this inherently brings a lot of screens and options. While exploring them, I found that I was able to raise my idle RPM by 75 which has eliminated a slight shudder when the AC cycles onโฆ that has bugged me for years! Also, yes the screen feels a bit dim. The brightness adjustment is easy to access, but max brightness pales in comparison to an iPad. Audio is acceptable, though it made a notification sound twice while I was driving that was loud enough to startle me. Did I save money vs going to a shop? Probably not, but Iโll bet it could have been close. One more check engine light and Iโll feel prepared to share with my wife how much this tablet cost!

Paid for Itself on Day One โ Powerful and Easy-to-Use Tool
One of the best investments Iโve madeโit paid for itself many times over from the first day of use. I bought it to program original Toyota keys, and the programming alone would have cost around $200. I programmed two keys, ran a vehicle scan, and then used it to program another Toyota. With just that, it already paid for itself multiple times. I use it personally and for friends (no charge), but for me it was more than worth it. Itโs easy to use and works with many car brandsโIโve used it on Toyota, Nissan, and Ford vehicles for family members. Itโs excellent for anyone who enjoys working on cars, and it can also be used in workshops since it has many features, although not unlimited. Considering the price versus what it can doโespecially compared to the very expensive tools from some companiesโitโs absolutely worth it.

Best All-Around Tool in my Garage
The XTOOL D8BT scanning tool is feature rich and more than just a scan tool. Its database of vehicles covers just about every modern car on the road today, and stays current with automatic updates if you choose that setting. You can read and reset fault codes, test components, and even customize many settings in late model cars. If you're a DIY'er, shade-tree mechanic, or even a master tech, this tool is invaluable. With other scan tools, reading fault codes is pretty standard, and cheaper options certainly exist that do a fine job. However, with this being an Android based tablet computer, the fault codes are not only displayed, but clicking the links brings you to online resources that explain the typical causes and repairs needed in plain language. This is invaluable, even if you decide to bring the car in for professional repairs, to avoid any surprise costs or unscrupulous mechanics. Additionally, the tool uses 2-way communication to access a variety of maintenance functions. On my BMW, replacing the battery requires registration with the ECU so that the system charges the battery appropriately. This tool performs that function, whereas in the past I needed a trip to the dealership, incurring a 1 hour labor charge. Likewise, when bleeding brake fluid, you can access the ABS system for a full flush. It's the same with cycling water pumps, radiator fans, interior electronics... Virtually any ECU controlled function in your car is accessible for diagnostics using this tool. Being a tablet design, the system is pretty rugged with a protective casing that is easy to hold securely. The back features a flip-out plastic stand to prop the device up on a dashboard or console. The bluetooth unit that I purchased comes with a transmitter that plugs into the OBD II port and wirelessly syncs to the device (powered thru the port - no batteries needed). The battery life on the tablet will run down after several straight hours of use, but a charger is provided, along with a handy protective plastic case. While the cost of this tool may make it seem like a luxury item, I can say that I've already recouped 75% of the investment in the first month of using it, just from avoiding dealerships and pro service. The tool's many features make it as versatile and indispensable as any quality set of wrenches. And, I know that the device will work on any car that I own in the future. I highly recommend this tool for anyone who routinely maintains their own vehicles.

Great tool with valuable options and an excelent Customer Service.
I purchased the D8W Scanner and I don't regret it. I have not been paid or asked to make a positive review in exchange for a free product. I am an Amazon buyer and more than a DIY mechanic that work on all of my family and friends cars and so, I had the opportunity to test this machine on a variety of vehicles from diferent manufactures and models as well as to compare this tool with others competing in the same market. I put together a few thought to help you get a detail view of what this product can do for you and so, make it easier for you to decide if it's right one for you or not. 1- The topoly feature on this scanner (D8W) is fast and, can only be obtained from XTOOL on this price range. No other scanner in the market offers it for less than $900. 2- The D8W comes with an 8" display again, something you can get from other stableshed brands of manufactures of Auto Scanners but at a higher cost. 3- Don't think that you are buying a flimsy and cheap product because it is affordable, this scanner feels solid.and it weights more than any other unit I had the opportunity to test/try of this size, assuring the buyer they are buying something durable and well made. 4- Across the market of wireless OBD scanners, many people complaint about miss/lost communication between the wireless OBD2 adaptor and the main unit but, till now, it hasn't happen to me, what leads me to believe your product does not have that issue and the connection between them is very stable. 5- Compared to other scanners on this price range, the UI is simple enough for anyone to use and even known, sometimes you have to play/look around to get to what you are looking for, if does offer a fair amount of choices and information to get the job done. 6- It comes with 3 years of free updates. At $199 a year, it's a hello of a bargain. 7- The frequency of updates provided to the D8W, is like no other manufacturer in the market. Like I said before, I not only had a few makes and models of both scanners and automobiles on hand to test them but also the time and interest to do it, and none of them had updates every week or almost daily like XTOOL do. I concider it a good thing because, it.is proof they are.working constantly to improve and maintain their product up to date with the latest software. 8- The battery, as long as you turn the unit off, like I do when you are done using it, will remain at the same level and will nor drain on its own. 9- You don't have to add your email to the device in order to be able to use it like you do with other manufactures. This simple thing avoids the multiple emails to fill up the device-storage and also the annoying notifications and remaining of them. 10- The D8W has a bilt in speaker. Yes, you may be surprised with this statement but, I had a well stablished brand scanner that didn't have one, making the feature of auto web search weak and sometimes unusable because is very hard to desifer what people are saying on a YouTube video if they are not speaking directly into the camera. Granted, not everything is perfect on this unit and, I m going to tell you about it too. If you are a professional mechanic that deals with scanners and work on the Fiat/Chrysler brand, you will now the TPMS issue is the number one complaint amount this family of automobiles. I believe they can sell this scanner for more money if they were to concider making a few minor adjustments/improvements to it. 1- My screen is not too bright and hard to see outside during the day when exposed to direct sun light. I confess, I haven't remove the screen protector that came installed on top of the screen yet and, I am almost sure must of the screen glare will go away once I do it. 2- The trouble codes have a brief description next to it but, if you want to get more info, you will be directed to the web using the tablet's web browser Google Chrome". You won't have to remember the codes numbers because, the machine will do an auto search on the subject to make it easier on you, the user. 3- The TPMS feature still very basic, I beleive a grafic UI can be shown with the tire pressures, temperature, sensor ID and battery status of all 4,5 or 6 tires, on a single screen to make better sense and understanding of the system functionality and how the computer is receiving/reading that information. I hope I was able to give you an honest description of what you are getting if you decide to buy this product (D8W). Also, this company's commitment and efforts to make a much better product each day. Happy shopping.

Easy to use scantool
I am incredibly impressed with the XTOOL D8W. I originally bought it hoping to tackle a few specific issues that usually require a trip to the dealership. I'm happy to report that it handled everything I threw at it. My main project was programming a new TPM sensor. The dealer wanted a significant chunk of change just for the service, but the D8W guided me through the process, and I successfully programmed the new sensor to my car without a single hiccup. Beyond that, I was amazed at the customization options it unlocked. I was able to dig into the settings and customize various remote functions, such as rolling all the windows down when holding the unlock button. These are exactly the kinds of "dealer-only" customizations that you're normally stuck with. For any serious home mechanic or DIYer, this tool is a game-changer. It's already saved me time and money by letting me skip the dealer appointment, highly recommended. Update: for clarity, the TPMS work I performed was to add a new Toyota sensor to the spare tire. I swapped out the steel wheel for a matching alloy wheel and had a new tire installed with a Toyota sensor. These come pre-programmed with a sensor ID. A simple ID registration step was needed to program the 5th empty slot on the 2015 4Runner. If you need to do more involved TPMS work there is a dedicated XTOOL TP150 TPMS Programming Tool.
